Do you use the word "texted"?

According to my research that is the grammatically correct past tense of text but it feels so wrong every time I hear it. I always say something like "I sent him a text earlier"

"sent them a message"

cause it could be iMessage or Twitter DM or w/e

agree it sounds awkward. like corporate speak or something. "grow the business" always got me.

yes. everytime. and anecdotally everyone i know also use that word.

SMS is still a viable form of messaging here in the Philippines since the internet speeds here are really crappy and slow so that might factor why we use that word. As a prepaid dominated mobile country, its extremely cheap to subscribe to just a day of unlimited text to all networks + 10 mins of calls to the same network numbers (15php ~ around .22usd) per day when you need them so saying texted isn't usual here.

I know it technically is right and most people I know use it. Something about it doesn't feel right to me probably the combination of the x and the -ed on the end.

You are being silly. It is 'not right' for you to feel this way because you're clearly wrong, and you should not feel bad about it. See below:

I say text instead of texted. Texted just sounds clumsy.

Same as bet or cut, I wouldn't say cutted.

"I text him yesterday?"

Talk about clumsy. And you're example is shit because 'bet' and 'cut' carry the past tense. #clumsy

It might be because I was born well before texting was a thing. I've always found linguistics very interesting and I recognize texted is correct but it stills feels weird to me.

"I texted X today". So yeah, I do use it. Although sometimes I'll say "I just sent X a text".

Atleast we can all agree it's not as horrible as people who verb inbox.

Are you English or something? They love to stick to weird spellings and pronunciations.

Of course "texted" is the correct way to say it .

It's similar to "I messaged you." Just with the added specificity of "I sent you a text(sms or mms) message", and not a Google hangouts message, or a Skype message.

It feels unconventional, but I also think it's a natural evolution of language to meet the new demands of describing technology efficiently.

I use it when I'm trying to keep things short and understandable.

Yes. It's correct because technology and its use are changing faster than language is.

It's why the big English dictionaries like the OED still update and it's mostly words that come from Internet culture.
