There is all this focus on a new Dualshock, and it's certainly a polarizing controller. The DS4's touchpad is certainly a nice addition, as any form of additional input seems to give the platform an advantage for more input-heavy games (suppose a game like Skyrim would be much more easier to scroll through, as well as map quick-items onto the touchpad, XCOM navigation also becomes much easier than using an analog stick, etc). The share button also seems to be a big deal for Sony.
But opinions on the Xbox controller have been relatively quiet-- the d-pad may be junky, but aside from that, you don't hear people complain so much about the analog placement, or the triggers, or the size.
Then there's all this focus on Kinect. Do you guys think the Xbox controller will go through any big changes? Will we see a Dualshock-esque successor in that we see minimal or no changes? Is the Xbox controller pretty much perfect for MS?
What I'm actually curious about is if we will see any additional input-- while Sony doesn't have a touchscreen, I think it'd be a smart way to upstage Sony by having an Xbox controller with a small touchscreen in the middle-- all the benefits of the touchpad with added benefit. Will MS add a Share-like button, or do you guys see MS avoiding that?
Personally, I think added input is a huge advantage as controllers can sometimes be too basic, and extra input methods can make multiplatforms seem more favourable. There are some people disappointed with Sony's touchpad, and I think a touchscreen by MS could be a good counter-- but what if MS has no touch controller at all?
