Do you wear underwear beneath your swimsuit?

I always do because I'm scared of getting an erection and having people see it.

It's never happened. But the thought is there and you never know.

Erections are always problematic for me. They can be seen in any pants I wear. As soon as I get one, I'll stop and face a building or something like I'm texting on my phone. Or I'll put my leg up on something until it subsides. Shit is maddening.

I refuse to believe people do this.

But then again some Americans do think brown milk comes from brown cows, so I guess anything is possible.

Maybe this why Phelps was so good? He doesn't wear underwear under his speedos.

Why must always something unusual being exclusively an American thing to some of you? Shit is annoying.

I didn't even know you could still get those

Neither did I. I haven't seen the old elastic-waist, lined swim trunks in like 20 years. lol

The only thing I can think of is maybe it's a regional thing. Maybe in the mid-west they still wear the lined ones or something. Who knows. Out west, though, I'd be mortified to be caught dead in them. haha

No, it's not a regional thing. You have a more limited exposure to apparel brands.

I do, but only because I'm afraid my kids are going to pull at my shorts and pull them down. That would cause quite a scene.

Wtf no.....

Dying here at the amount of you who seemingly struggle with day to day life cause you're popping boners all day long.

Yes, and I love it. I love it so much, that when I buy a swimsuit, the first thing I do when I get home is grab my scissors, then I proceed to cut the mesh out. I hate the mesh, what's it really do, it feels inferior in every way compared to just wearing a good ol pair of boxers. The mesh is no good in my opinion.

I just wear speedo shorts, cant stand regular swimming shorts.

Gotta show off that bulge man, also they dry way faster and you can wear them as underwear under regular clothing so you dont have to change at the pool/beach.

No, of course I do not wear underwear underneath my swimtrunks or boardshorts.

Who wears a fabric that's not quick drying and goes swimming in it? Who puts that material under a swimsuit? Out of the water, you'd be wet and soggy all day. Plus in the water while swimming I imagine the fabric would feel heavy.

If you're wearing boardshorts that have no netting either freeball or buy and wear a speedo underneath or those tiny swimtrunks underneath. That way if you must have layers all the material is designed to use while swimming, and out of the water will be quick drying.

Yeah, mostly to keep my dong from flapping about. But also because the mesh can be annoying sometimes, and it definitely doesn't keep my goods in place well enough.

Well first of all were they swim trunks or board shorts. You should absolutely wear compression shorts under board shorts. You can do that for the trunks too but actual underwear? Hell nah.

Well it's certainly not a CA or west coast thing, so that would make it regional. And brands have nothing to do with it. It's a style (one of which almost nobody out here still wears).

People shop online and most brands are national. I doubt there are many companies dedicated to the regional swimwear needs of the midwest or plains state customers, but I could be wrong.

OP I have pairs from different places some are mesh lined some aren't, that determines whether I wear something under them or not, if I do I bring clean dry clothes to change into afterwards.

Everyone does.

Though I had to google what you meant by 'trunks', those look super uncomfortable, everyone wears board shorts here.

Who's "everyone"? I've worn board shorts all my life and the liner mesh has always done the trick, why would I need underwear?

Boardshorts don't have liners.

This is false. Some brands might not, but the vast majority do, from personal experience.

Wait, what? The US is a weird place, man... Oo

In France swim shorts are forbidden in swimming pools so good luck wearing underwear under your speedos or square trunks.
What in the... Why?

I do but that's because I'm more of a flipper/jumper in pools and without, I flop and it hurts when the boys hit the water.

Edit: and when around juvenile cousins, best be safe in case of pantsing ;)

Almost in disbelief at the number of people who are saying yes. Is this an American thing?

I have literally never seen any indication of this in Europe. It sounds utterly bizarre.

I've never seen them underneath swimming trunks, but I see them when people are wearing basketball shorts in the pool/on the beach.

I'm much more surprised there are people who still wear the old lined swim trunks instead of board shorts.

Why the hell would I wear swimwear that is less practical on purpose? I really need an answer because this whole thing is just completely nonsensical to me. Oo

Because they look better, are more comfortable, and don't look like a flashback to the 1980's.

Plus with the hybrids that are out now, they make for great regular shorts.

I've never seen boardshorts with a liner ÂŻ_(ツ)_/ÂŻ
US swimwear is cray cray. Oo
Can I just ask why you would purposefully choose a type of short that is less practical and has no benefits? I quite literally do not understand.

Wait, your board shorts have the liner? May I ask where you're from and what you consider a board short?

How in the hell are they more comfortable if you need underwear? That is nonsensical.

Just for clarification:

Board shorts are the ones on the left, is that correct? If that is the case "because they look better" is at the very least extremely questionable.

Also, I think you mean the 90s, if anything. And it still makes no sense since most people still wear the regular kind. This seems like a very regional thing as over in Europe here the ones on the left are rarely seen except on teens, basically.

Yes board shorts are the ones on the left. You aren't supposed to wear undies with them if you're wearing them as swim wear and not regular shorts (though apparently some do).

And yeah, as far as I've seen here in the US, most wear board shorts. I very rarely see the old kind.

I googled board shorts and the first couple of results looked exactly like normal swimwear so I mistakenly assumed. I'm from Portugal.

The lack of a mesh liner explains why so many people wear underwear though, who thought that was a good idea?

They're more practical. They're durable, dry quickly, are less likely to fall off, have a pocket with a drain, and have a fly. They're worn without underwear.

While most people think of boardshorts as being long and baggy, they can be any length.

I don't understand why you would wear anything but Speedos when actually swimming, then again living in Brazil might have biased me against anything else.

But like seriously, why? Shorts take longer to dry, they drag your swimming, they are not meant for swimming, they are overall a nuisance.

And now this craziness of double clothing for swimming? Why would you do that?

WTF?!?! This is an actual thing people do??? Wear underwear under swimwear???

I haven't done this ever when I go swimming.

I have a few times because any time I get out of the pool, my trunks just suck to my body and you can see whether I've been circumcised. Got sick of awkwardly plucking the suit from my groin in front of people.
