What? DoAX was awesome, and the sequel looks improved in pretty much every way.

No it wasn't, except for Zack there weren't any other men on the island, just a bunch of suntanning, sexually ambiguous ninja chicks.M3wThr33 said:This still is just a dating sim, right? The last one was.

You still basicaly had to woo the girls with gifts and shit and buy them bikinis and all that. Otherwise you were just playing a simple volleyball game.Pseudo judo said:I don't call that dating.

you kind of have to admire team ninja's salaciousness, but the doa girls are past due for a redesign. new hardware can do better than their alienating mannequin look...though i suppose some of the fans must be attached to their current appearances. i just gave myself the creeps.
i...liked the volleyball in the first one. the lesbian dating game not so much.

When asked whether the inarguably taxing gifting system would return, Itagaki insisted that players can expect drastic change. Giving someone you care a gift and having them throw away is something people understand, he explains. But it played too much negative reinforcements. Were trying to move things in a more positive direction. Pressed for specifics Itagaki elaborates, Im going to remove all the trashcans from Zack Island.

Barnolde said:Yeah... you're just wrong. It was just plain bad, had no depth, was very boring and pretty pathetic, hell, it wasn't even ****ing 4 player! I eBayed that game pretty damn fast.

DOA: XBV is sadder than the "pathetic" thread in the off-topic board. Super Volleyball on Genesis was a better volleyball game and real porn is better to look at.

I don't get it...

Looks like they're adding in a bunch of the features and depth I'd hoped to see in the original. (Other sports, tan lines, physics-based bouncing instead of hand-animated, and so on.)
I was kind of let down by how shallow the original ended up being, on both the gameplay and gravure sides, with some poorly-designed gameplay systems like the "Gifting," and even the namesake sport was beat down by friggin' Outlaw Volleyball. And it didn't help that Tecmo USA promised all these different gameplay elements in their forum before the original was released, and it was later revealed that they'd just gleaned most of their "information" out of a public trailer, and made some guesses that were WAY off-base.
At any rate, I wonder if this is going to smack into problems with CERO? If it's anything like the original, there's some remarkably-revealing costumes, and apparently CERO will refuse to rate a game with nudity?
Adam Blade said:I don't think any of Itagaki's games have had nudity.
So why isn't it BC on the 360 yet, hmm? Less chatter and more BC'ing... Stranger's Wrath, Panzer Orta and Psychonauts compel you!arne said:how come nobody is talking about the casino "mini-game?"
DID YOU NOT PLAY IT?
Most addictive part of the game ever.
Better even than admiring the, er... physics.Almost
1. He put some of his best programmers to work on the sunburn system and they came up with an engine capable of overlaying up to 255 different sunburn patterns. However, it's pointless to go this far, so they had to decide how many suburn layers the game would actually support. Some people in the team felt one was enough, but he figured that they'd already taken the trouble to create the engine, so they might as well use it. They ran some tests and saw that upon the third layer the pattern started to look messy, so they locked it to two layers max.
What this basically means is that you can combine sunburn patterns for two different bathing suits at the same time, but no more.
2. Sunburn marks will reflect different levels of tanning. So, when you change bathing suits, your tanlines may start to dissipate as unburned areas get their own relative tan. The point is to be realistic and to let the player enjoy the watching the girls get tanned "beautifully." For players interested in this sort of thing, the sunblock and tanning lotions are back.
3. There are so many new elements for fans to enjoy that Itagaki's worried they might not be able to present them all before the game's release date.
4. They currently have over 180 gravure scenes. They're redoing some of the more popular ones from the previous game, like Hitomi on the swing. There is (at least) one more surprise as far as the gravure mode's concerned, which will be revealed in subsecuent issues of Famitsu.
5. There are parts of the island which only appear special gravure scenes which only come out when certian conditions are met. They're not particularly "hidden", though - you should be able to find them just by playing normally.
6. This time there are three different hotels to choose from: Seabreeze Cottage, Gemstone Suite and Moonlight Reef. Seabreeze cottage is a "floatting cottage." Helena's pictures were taken there. Moonlight Reef is kinda "girl-ish." The hotel you choose somehow has an effect on the feel of the game. It plays into your "strategy" (again, he's being deliberately vague).
7. The garbage can system's been completely done away with in favor of the "how-good-you're-getting-along" system.
8. It's official: Kasumi's knockers have grown in size. Seeing as how it's the tenth anniversary of DOA, Itagaki decided to redesign Kasumi and Ayane's physiques so as to return to the series' roots. Still pictures only convey about 3% of their current "charms", though (I believe he's referring to the fact that you can't see them, er, "wiggle" in still pictures).
9. Itagaki's just done finalizing which bathing suits will be available to which girls. He thinks that in the last game, anywhere from 50 to 70 % of bathing suits were not captivating at all. He feels that lots of bathing suits were just pretty much the same. This time, all bathing suits have their "uniqueness." In the previous game, he felt it was like all you needed to do was play as Lisa, but this time all the girls will each have their "captivating" suits. Not just in the "kinky" sense, but captivating overall. He's only addopting suits which reflect each character's taste, allure and uniqueness. They're now working on every character being able to wear every bathing suit, and things are going along smoothly.
10. He's currently working on each girls comment for each accesory. All accesories have a default description, but the girls will also give their own two cents on them.
11. He believes the camera system will offer the player the most freedom ever. He's taking inspiration from Halo to provide a "FPC" (First Person Camera).
12. The game's currently 70% complete. They've already done the Japanese voice recording and are currently doing the English voice recordings. He thinks the voices will fit: the voice actress who will do the voice of Tina is (allegedly) an actual Texan, for instance. The Japanse version will *also* include the English language recordings (no word on whether or not the Overseas version will also include Japanese voice-overs, but I'd say it's a given). Oh, and the first day tour will be different from last time, where Lisa was always your guide. Apparently they have a surprise in store in this regard.
