Does a MK: Shaolin Monks sequel seem appropriate at this time?

NetherRealm Studios has a great reputation when it comes to their story modes since MK9. After playing through MKX's storymode, I was questioning this, it would seem appropriate to me at this time, actually, perfect timing. What do you think?

It's been hinted on Twitter a few years back.

Honestly they should make a new IP for that the Mortal Kombat characters and universe are nice for the fighting game with minimal exposure, but overall they suck and easily replaceable.

What I always fantasize about(aka know will NEVER happen) is a remake to Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. The game is the oldest game lore wise in the franchise, and is the only game considered cannon in both timelines. The story in the game is great, but the game itself was terrible with some shitty fmv cutscenes thrown in. If the game is STILL being referenced even in MKX, why not completely remake a new game like shaolin monks, but retain that original story?

Let me dream ;_;

I'm definitely ready for Fire and Ice, but I'm afraid Netherrealm is very likely locked in a Mortal Kombat -> Injustice cycle now. Not only did Injustice sell gangbusters, I'm told the comic is still ongoing and also sells really well; which means there is very likely to be pressure from WB to make a sequel. Doesn't mean NRS can't make another team or have another studio do it (that's how SM got made iirc), but my hopes are low atm.

As much as I liked Injustice I would love if WB game NRS the chance to make a new action game instead of a Injustice follow up.

After the MKX mid credits scene we need that story told in a beat em up.

I dunno, part of Shaolin Monk's charm was that it retold the story from MK1 and 2 - you could see the events from those games from a different perspective, visit familiar locations and fight familiar bosses.

However, I wouldn't say no. Shaolin Monks was fun gameplay wise and MK lore itself has a lot of stories that the next game could cover.

I remember reading a preview about MK Mythology: Sub-Zero - man, you have no idea how hyped I was. An action-adventure MK game, full of fights and platforming, with my favorite MK character. It just had to be great! And then I played it. And wept. :(

It's been appropriate for years, game was fun. Let it star Scorp and Sub this time though. I know they were in the first, but I want them on the box. :P

they should do one, but i would prefer a Streets of Rage -style pure beatemup with 8 stages rather than a storymode.

And kinda like in Shaolin Monks 1, you should be able to choose to play either as:
Liu Kang & Kung Lao
Scorpion & Sub-Zero

But also with new teams:
Cassie & Jacqui
Kung Jin & Takeda

Mortal Kombat: The Fat and the Furious

After having one too many drinks, a pissed off Raiden and wasted Bo Rai Cho go on an alcohol fueled rampage/road trip of Outworld.

With a scene where they provoke Kotal Kahn and pretty much everyone when they both (yes even Raiden) puke all over Kotal Kahn's floor. And downtime where they both angst over Kung Lao and Liu Kang, and maybe everyone ignoring Fuujin.

Make it happen Netherrealm

It's always the right time for a Shaolin Monks sequel.

Lol I came into this thread to make this comment

I agree with everything...except about the FMV quality. They were awesome. You can feel Quan Chi's contempt every time he said 'Ninja'

Cassie & Jacqui: Kombat Sisters

Yes starring Smoke and Noob, make it happen.

Yes yes yes. I'd kill for another game as amazingly fun and stupid as Shaolin Monks. That game was a blast to play and a riot to laugh at. Stuff like incredibly blatant fake Raiden no one can notice, or Johnny stopping you mid-fatality just to nut-kick Goro, and the absolute best two phase Scorpion boss fight(BLAZING Scorpion) followed by a big fat Terminator 2 reference.
But the dumbest, stupidest, funniest cutscene is one where Baraka grabs a monk, stabs him, multiple times, through the chest and head, and then throws him across a pit, only for Kung Lao to ask in the most earnest way possible "Are you ooook?". Here's the scene in question (couldn't find one without commentary).
If I could have all that stupidity with current day tech and new characters, I'd take it!

I don't think anyone has done an online 3D action adventure co op game properly yet. But it really is something I'm clamoring for.

I enjoyed Ratchet and Clank: All4One and so far with how much I played of RE6 w/ you bout because of those reasons. Despite some questionable decisions in RE6 I'm really enjoying the core melee/dodging combat especially with no friendly AI ruining everything for you.

If NRS can pull if off, that would be so awesome.

I would love a proper sub zero/scorpion buddy game. It needs to happen, esoecially if they trade barbs constantly.

If this has already been said then please ignore but a sequel will not happen beacuse MKSM left on a cliff hanger that seems to lead the game into the events of MK4 which would be fine if MK X didn't just come out and have a diffrent version of that stroy, I assume a lot of players first MK game may have been the 2011 reboot so it would confuse too many new players. shame about us old vets who would love to see another entry in the MKSM series but we wont because they will probably only ever focus on fighting games, (which is also fine)

A sequel is appropriate at any time. I'm legit pissed that it's taking so long to happen. What a great game. Explored the lore in greater detail, fleshed out character backgrounds in a way the fighting games didn't have time for...I think I'll start playing it again this weekend.

None of the story or environments are interesting enough past MK2. I'd surely take a remake/remaster, though. It's all pretty forgettable, except for the super hardcore MK lore junkies.

I think other WB studios should do Shaolin Monks (like Monolith Productions or WB Montreal) and not NetherRealm

as for NetherRealm they should try MK vs DC again. first time was bad, but now they got it right, Injustice was a big hit and MK is as popular as ever, an Mortal Kombat vs. DC 2 with everything they learned from MK9/10 and Injustice will be amazing.

You're asking for another MK game without fatalities. The concept is flawed.
