Does anybody still care about a new God of War

I'm interested in it in the same way that I'm interested in another COD, or another Battlefield, or another MOH, or another Crysis.

Which is to say, not very much at all. Little bit more than those due to FPS fatigue.

Have you how much money this series make? Is it any wonder that Sony keeps making one?

So regardless what each of us feel about the series, yes, in general there are a lot of people who are still interested in the series.

nope! Let the series die..

Not die, but It needs a re-invention. Fact is mechanically haven't really bothered too much with it. DMC1-DMC3-DMC4 all three offer pretty different experiences. God Of War has stuck very much to its roots since 2005. They add and sprinkle on stuff in every game, but it's really the same thing underneath. And sometimes the stuff they add is done in a half-assed way, like every sub-weapon they've made ever. And I think some people have grown also tired of Kratos and the setting. Kratos, let's face it, is a shitty, ugly character with nowhere to grow.

Also, this is the third friggin' prequel in the series.

My only problem is that it feels like it's going to be a lesser entry in the series. It doesn't really have that urgency and epicness that the other titles had, being major parts of the story.

It still looks really good.

Did you watch this video?

It made me a "bit" more optimistic.

Tethering seems kind of exciting, but meh to the rest. This reveal is simply monumentally lame compared to the amazing one-shot in-engine GOW3 trailer and the E3 demo afterwards.

Maybe they are actually hiding the exciting stuff this time instead of showing it all.

The devs totally hinted that kratos would be traveling to other regions/mythos'. That's what has me pumped more than anything.

Every original game in this series sold over a million copies. Even latter day psp one (GoS).

So why not make another one when there is so much demand for it.

Personally I find Kratos' actions morally repugnant, but enjoy the fast paced gameplay.

Hope the new game makes the main character more appealing.

Yes

even though the formula is getting old, and I'm no longer hyped out of my mind for it's release. I still enjoy the games for what they are.

I guess they're hiding it pretty well. :P

The GOW3 trailer was crazy, it was paced with an insane crescendo. Kratos is running on walls. Damn Kratos just eviscerated that centaur. Oh shit 30 enemies dropped on Kratos. Oh shit he climbed that cyclops in epic fashion. Fuck the ground is moving underneath them.Goddamn they're actually on a moving Titan. Sheeeit you're actually on a titan scaling mount olympus along other titans.

That's how you reveal a God of War game. Not with a run of the mill area.

I'm not that excited about it. Something about 3 left a bad taste in my mouth, even though I bothered to get the platinum on it. Probably not going to be day 1 for me anyway.

Don't worry, GTTV will manage to show all the best parts several months before release.

On the subject of the video, pretty much everything Papy said was about reexamining and revising systems, which is not something they've ever said before, using the excuse of continuity in the trilogy to avoid evolving too much. I'm most interested in the rage system and how it rewards you for parries, late dodges, and doing things that look cool. Sounds like another thing that might have been inspired by Bayonetta.

I also think the subtle improvements to the animation are awesome, and I'm impressed they've noticeably improved an already exemplary animation system.

Considering we are still waiting on the first gameplay trailer I'd say so. GoW has some of the best trailers in games and I'm massively excited for it but no doubt they are holding of the good stuff until things die down and release gets a little closer.

Going to watch some GoW 3 trailers in anticipation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vYxq0QBFPw

The series has gotten to they Dynasty Warriors realm with me.. it's more of the same with a little added, but a ways into 3 I was asking myself pretty much.. why I am playing this? All this crazy shit going down but couldn't give two fucks about it.

It's not the games fault, but it's fatigue.. much like CoD.

Exactly this for me. And who knows, I'm optimistic that they can mutate this game just enough to not loose what the series is, but also keep me from getting burnt out on it.

It would have been nice if they tried to use his humanity and have that affect the gameplay.

He's human in this one but still plays like a god.

That wall running is the issue I've had with plenty of God of War games

They have these cool ideas, but then they are used so tamely especially in the platforming and traversal. Icarus boots could have been awesome, but they ended up being you could only use them at predesignated spots. The time changing mechanic in this game looks the same. Let me use a bit of creativity

I would if GOWA was an annual franchise. By the time Ascension releases it would be 3 years since GOW3 on PS3. I still care for the series and I like Kratos far too much to not bother with it. His like as awesome as Sonic or Snake now.

He is human but he is still a bad ass, and still has been given the blades of chaos

Wouldn't make sense for him to be weaker than the start of God of War in this one

I did until I saw the demo. The game looked and played fine and the graphics looked great but it all came off as lazy. I was hoping this was a game where you were just playing as a normal soldier. Different weapons, normal enemies. Big battles etc etc. Nope, same game. Why even bother?

What makes it even sadder is that they know this game will sell yet they made no attempt to change anything up. This is one of those franchises, I think, that have earned some wiggle room as far as gameplay goes. Push it a little further. How does he even have the chain blades? Isn't this before all the shit from part 1 went down?

It's true. Icarus boots were specially disappointing, not just because of what you mentioned, but because it's a dash attack that makes the game go in slow motion when you use it. A slow motion dash. That's just fucking stupid.

I don't think this has been discussed yet and it was only mentioned briefly, but the bit about changing the design of some key enemies has me the most excited. The elephant enemy (Elephantaur), was the Minotaur and they have also changed Medusa and Cyclops.

He said the elephant had influence from the skull with the hole, but it could also be Hindu influenced which means this game might have more of a different mythology theme than most people think right now. Hype.
Maybe they will test the waters of bringing a different mythologies in with this one

i love the elephant design. In fact the enemy design seems significantly better than God of War 3 I think. Where quite a few enemies were uninspired

I actually enjoyed using it in combat, it was a great way to start a combo. But it could have been much more

I'm surprised I haven't gotten tired of the GOW games. As long as they uphold the quality, I'll keep playing them. Ascension looks amazing.

I love the series, completed all five games, some even multiple times, but Ascension does not really interest me.

I mean, they have had so many chances to go for another universe, for another style, but they actually do not change the setting and gameplay for SIX GAMES IN A ROW. Series like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed actually change their setting, GTA does, et cetera.

They could have gone for Egyptian or Norse mythology at least. I'm looking the gameplay, looks great, but I've played through this stuff a billion times already. God of War III was good, but felt more of the same already. And now they just continue like that. Why not be a LITTLE original?

I'm pretty excited for it. I really didn't enjoy III all that much and was fairly negative on Ascension conceptually (another prequel that takes us to 'Kratos's origins but doesn't show his origins woo) but the refreshed combat mechanics are fixing nearly everything grating about II that I can think of, and the emphasis on showing a more well rounded Kratos is appealing to me.

It is one of most high quality franchises in history but the problem is that besides graphics and bigger set pieces it hasn't changed at all

But the MP is supposed to change that, here's the problem though, I don't give a shit about MP

I like what they are doing with the combat, they look like they are being very smart with their improvements. But they need to improve the AI while they are at it. They are still being sponges.

They need to really increase the enemies abilities to dodge what Kratos is doing. Especially with Kratos's abilities to now pull himself into enemies.

I do. I saw god of war being played and it looked.. like Gof of War.. good enough for me.

Story wise, I'll catch up and see if its any good when I play it. Can't criticize a game I only saw minutes of and none of it was spoiling a story that hasn't been shown.

Multiplayer? I'm sure there'll be a demo but again, I'll find out about it when I play it.

I don't need any more marketing or hype, just release it.

Plus I'm not going to go crazy or expect heavy marketing on a game that comes next year.

Definitely. The combat isn't that amazing in the GoW games, but the visual fidelity, combined with the scale and brutality just comes together to make for an awesome experience.

No.

God of War 1 was amazing.
God of War 2 was the pinnacle, they perfected the formula.
The PSP games were great side adventures but identical to the main games.

And that was the point I felt burnt out on the series. God of War 3 was too long in the making to be honest, it just felt dated by the time it finally arrived - that combined with all the nonsense David Jaffe and Sony talked about it. I was sick of it before it even released. There's only two ways they could revive my interest, one would be a different mythology with different characters. The other would be focus on adding depth to the gameplay, something akin to Ninja Gaiden Sigma where theres more challenge than just mashing square whilst holding L1 or pressing square, square, triangle on loop (I could have sworn this is all the person was doing in the gameplay demo).

Imagine a God of War-esque game with the ridiculousness of Norse Mythology
