Does ANYONE make 2.5mm headphones that don't break eventually? (or last a long time)

I listen to a LOT of podcasts. I listen to them when I run, I listen when driving, I listen when cleaning up around the house, I listen when doing yardwork, etc.

But it seems that every set of headphones dies eventually. Mostly due to problems at the interface with the cellphone/Mp3player. Sometimes my fault (catching on doorknobs, dropping the cellphone, etc.) But generally, it is just normal wear & tear.

Does anyone make headphones that last there? I don't even care about quality headphones because I mostly listen to talk (Hardcore history, news, This American Life, RadioLab, etc.)

Has anyone figured out the strain relief problem withheadphones?

So you want shitty headphones with good connectors?

EDIT: Have you tried looking for headphones with detachable cables?

In my experience, high quality headphones tend to be more fragile. Get something cheap like the Phillips 3590. They last forever, and you can't beat them for $5-$10. That's what I use everyday. I jog and in general just listen to them all the time, mostly music and the podcast Stuff You Should Know.

This is what I get for posting a thread late at light after everyone is drunk.
Speculawyer, you okay Pal? For now, maybe get a Koss Portapro KTC? Last phones you'll have to buy...

Also, why are you being mean to Blame space? Not his fault he got shipped a lemon.

I agree, this is why I buy two soup cans and connect them with string, it's only $3 and you get soup

Yes. Actually, I do.

But I'll settle for good headphones with good connectors.

Basically a cross post from the last headphone thread..

M50x (good quality, and sound)

Monoprice 8323 (terrible quality, and decent sound.)

If you're looking for some toss around headphones, get the Monoprice. They have terrible build quality, but you can replace the cables with any 3.5mm removable cable.

You sound very confused also.

Yes, I am confused.

And those look awesome . . . but they are not gonna work for running.

Oh, you want earbuds? Look at some IEM's then.

I'm looking at these.

They have removable cables with them so I don't think them breaking will be much of a problem. The removable cables cost about $20 bucks though.

If you do buy any earbuds/IEM, definitely check out this site for the tips.

Complyfoam

They give you different types of tips for your earbuds and they're categorized for usage like athletic, noise isolation etc.

Those headphones look great . . . but I don't want $100 headphones for when I'm running in the rain. (Which I love to do . . . feels great. I even have a rain running mix.)

Perhaps what I really need is some extension cord or something.

I hear the white ipod headphones offer high quality sound for the discerning audiophile.

You know what one of the best headphones I ever had was? Zune headphones. Those bastards lasted for many months. One thing they did right. Apple ones do pretty good.

If you think Apple earbuds are good, any old pair of $10-$20 earbuds should do ya. I have a pair of those in ear skullcandy headphones so I cannot hear the cubicle cattle grazing and eating super crunchy food. Every. Single. Day. All. Day. Also, they can't hear my music.

I have a decent pair of ATH-M30 at home. I can't really see myself spending more than $100 on headphones since I don't have the ears to truly appreciate their finer points.

I have two sets of earphones at any time, one for home, one for going out. The one at home I often fall asleep with, so I keep them separate since they tend to get damaged faster. It's a cheap but decent phillips thing. Then I have a slightly costlier Sennheiser for going walkabouts with each day.

I go through probably 2-3 earphones per years. Shit is ridiculous. I bought like 3 phillips ones last time because I just burn through them and I got a good deal.

I probably go through 8 to 10 headphones a year. I generally buy multiple of them when I find them on sale.

Skullcandy . . . OK, not great quality but last OK.
$5 random chinese ones . . . not worth it. Die within 2 weeks.
High-quality ones . . . last longer but I can't tell if it is worth it . . . I don't care about quality so much, except the 3.5mm (Thanks, Blamespace!) interface since I largely listen to talk podcasts.

I've had good luck with sony's Bumpin Buds for a good pairing of sound, build quality, and price.

Although, when running you'll hear the chord shock pretty well.

The Ninja Turtle is right. It is 3.5mm

But now that we've established that . . . WHAT HEADPHONES ARE GOOD?

I have the same problem actually. My headphones get worked.

I've gone cheap and expensive, but my use is so high that they never last.

I've tried many brands, including Shure, Sony, and the like.

The only ones that have lasted are Urbanears Earbuds for me.

I bought them on a whim, and I've found them to be toughest for gym, commuting, walking, etc.

Hit up a Dollar Tree and stock up on their earbuds, that's what I do. I think you could make a durable pair but it wouldn't be economical I don't think. I've looked for this for a while, and have yet to find one, it would need to have a woven steel wire inside, attached to the buds with a swivel connection. Would also make a great murder weapon...
