I've always thought of it as a 5 o'clock shadow. The episode "Sweet Seymour Skinner's Baadasssss Song" starts off with Homer having a beard when he gets Sebastian Cabot's Beard Book.

That's just unkempt because he hasn't showered or been clean in days, otherwise length wise it's the same. He just has like a normal beard. Look at Abe Simpson, he has the same beard length, I doubt he's keeping stubble too.

His stubble grows out sometimes, it looks scruffier but it's not really a full beard.

Just because it's nowhere near as good as golden age Simpsons, doesn't mean it's shit. Shit is something like Dads. Modern day Simpsons is at the very least mediocre.

And you know, before you rewatch season 3 and 4 for the umpteenth time... make sure you watch Rick & Morty, Archer, Adventure Time and Regular Show. There are some great cartoons out there right now. There is no need to dwell on the Simpsons decline forever. I'm not saying you do necessarily, but I know some people must since I see this sort of comment a lot.

I'm sorry for this rant, you probably didn't deserve it. But your post inspired to let out an opinion that's been brewing for awhile.

Just to finish, to me The Simpsons are like that old parent who no longer have all their wits about them. Sure part of you is sad to see them decay, but you shouldn't start hating them for it.
