Does Snake deserve a second shot in the new SSB?

To answer your question I dont think any character belongs more than another. This isn't some popularity contest. Its not like the most popular kid thats friends with Nintendo belongs to be in. There are different criteria than that.

The only criteria I personally have is that characters who originated and sourced outside of the gaming medium don't have place in Smash due to the tonal differences and consistency of the series so far. If Smash has been anything so far, it's been gaming centric, particularly Japanese gaming centric. I think it would be very odd to include characters that formed outside of that bubble, and it's why I'm happy to see characters like Sonic, Snake, Mega Man, Pac-Man, and whoever make an appearance.

Nope. He has nothing to do in SSB WiiU/3DS.
Take him out and get Bayonetta in.

This is my take on the matter, too. He was funny to have in Brawl, but it's been about 10 years since he showed up on a Nintendo console, if I'm not mistaken. He has very little ties to Nintendo and is more associated with Sony, if anything. Certainly no ties that warrant his coming back to Smash.
I'd rather have Bayonetta or Travis Touchdown.

Now watch as Sakurai announces Isaac Clarke to join the brawl!

I remember people telling me, and i mean vehemently arguing, back when Brawl was coming out that Tom Nook/an AC character and a mii was totally a stupid idea that would never work or fit with these games -- yet here we are. As lame as it may sound, lack of imagination is the only reason a character coudlnt fit into Smash Bros and Nintendo has made it quite clear they're not lacking in that department --- it's the Smash Community that generally is.

For many characters on the roster, yeah it is.

You are. He has a game on 3DS.

I don't really care if he got axed, but I have to admit, he was hilariously broken and fun to use. All of his attacks just hit so damn hard, especially that knee+elbow combo. Man, I love the knee+elbow combo

I don't personally care, but if he is replaced by someone more classic like an early Castlevania character or an early Final Fantasy character I wouldn't complain AT ALL.

I would be inclined to agree but I can think of a few characters outside of that bubble that could be appropriate ... Wreck-it-Ralph for one.

At this point I'm not even sure Sonic is coming back.

I picture the future of SSB to be way different than the last three and a restart on the series. Nothing is concrete, nothing of what was said before matters and it all comes down to what he feels like doing now to make a good game.

In other words: clean slate sounds about right.

If anything Konami should have sent in the Contra dudes, Twinbees or Bomber Man.

YES!!!

Replace Snake with Bomberman, I mean NdCube is Hudson reborn, Bomberman has always been a special part of Nintendo's history, why he was chosen as opposed to Snake (aside from Kojima asking Sakurai), I'll never know.

Sonic's staying, he ain't ever leaving.

Mega Man is perfect because again, he's had a huge history with Nintendo, I mean most of his games in the last decade were on Nintendo's handhelds.

Sonic, Mega Man, Bomberman, maybe Pac-Man. The perfect 3rd-party mascot quartet.

Sonic at least needs a move set revision hard, and maybe a slight nerf to his super which is way too good.

"NOW I'll SHOW YOU! HNNNNG"

5 KO's in 10 seconds.

I love Snake, and he should stay.

Also, if I had to choose between Snake, Simon Belmont, Bomberman and Goemon as a playable Konami rep (since Konami owns Bomberman now), I think my head would explode. I would seriously love all four of those characters. I don't think I could choose one.

I don't think he should be in. He's been on everything but Nintendo platforms for the past decade (I'm not counting the 3DS's MGS port) and I don't think he fits in well with the Nintendo characters anyway. Megaman and Sonic feel like they belong to the same universe as the other Nintendo characters in Smash. Snake does not.

Sounds convenient.

Except when you consider ganondorf, samus, ike and marth. (some could argue link and zelda)

see above

I hope he doesn't come back. I was pretty happy with his inclusion at first but then one of win-hungry friends started playing him in such annoying way that it sucked the fun out of the game.
Anyways, I don't think he's coming back. It's pretty rare for a fighter to bring back all its former roster, and cutting Snake would probably save a lot of time and effort when it comes to negotiations. But you never know, expect the unexpected. Wii Fit Trainer knocked down all expectations from day 1 of the announcement.
