Domino promo shot (Deadpool 2)

Yes. Ryan Reynolds looked almost exactly like a real life Deadpool.

That is a weird point to make.

Technically? I guess you missed my point. Throughout the years deadpool has changed in shape a lot. From roided 90s (sometimes too serious) deadpool, to skinny only comic relief and everywhere in between. In the suit, literally any male would look like deadpool. Without, anyone with Freddie Kruger makeup would look like him. If you're talking about Wade Wilson, again pretty much any generic white dude would work.

My point being, physical appearance, anyone can look like deadpool so the personality is what mattered, and Ryan Reynolds was cosmically perfect for that.

Similarly, physically, no one looks like domino so anyone will work. What matters most is personality. In that department, I think Zazie is a stunning pick.

Yes? Mostly.

As for "no one looks like a human Domino" - eh, you only have to google 'Domino cosplay' to prove that to be untrue.

I like the movie design, but it's not like the comic book design was unachievable. And people can think "that doesn't look like Domino", because it doesn't really.

And of course personality matters, but it's hard to gauge that from a still image, unlike character design.

Domino cosplay is just fit people with white paint and a black spot. Maybe I should clarify. I'm saying "human" domino because domino is such an alien looking character. If you did her exactly like the comics, it would probably really clash with the style the deadpool movie went for. Citing cosplayers points out the concept that anyone with enough props, makeup, and level of physical fitness can look like any comicbook character.

No one naturally looks like domino.
I believe the dalmatian style of the character may be too outlandish for the movie.
So personality trumps appearance, which it looks like Zazie won out.

Maybe I'm only dying on this hill because I am an actual fan of domino. For me it's never been about the look (though I did always love the pixie cut because of the personality match and my personal preferences). She has an awesome (though often nerfed) powerset and killer personality. Appearance for me is fine if it's just symbolic. What I want them to nail is the character, and with what they did in the first movie, I think they'll do the character justice.

Edit: On a similar note, did anyone care about Morena Baccarin not looking like this?

If costume distracts from character then it should probably be toned down then no?

The afro is her natural hair. Ain't no one gonna tell her to get rid of it.

What the fuck kind of thinking is this?

This is how far we've gone in the opposite direction?

She's playing a character and the character designers choose what the character will look like.

That includes hair style.

Not everyone has to like it. I personally don't. Again, for the character and what it's based on.

I would have liked to see short hair to mid hair Domino. Also more saturated blue on the costume, its too normal safe X-Men movie leather outfit.

So.. it was a shit post. Ok. Slayven is not absolved from that. Contribute.
Don't ever let Slayven fuck with your mind.

Then we are blessed the designers allowed the afro otherwise they would have probably went with someone else.

Yeah. Looks like they got it off the rack for Xmen The Last Stand.

Brighter blue would help a lot with the costume. Wouldn't look so bland.

So what do anti-afro people want instead? Hmmm?

is the hair I associate with her. Afro itself is fine, but that's a huge ass afro, gorgeous as it is. Would like that hair reigned in a bit, and the spot to be the regular color since it's really distinctive as part of her design. Considering how faithful Deadpool himself looks, and how Brolin is shaping up to look, these seem like oddly huge changes to design faithfulness even if they are minor to others.

It's whatever as far as complaints go though. Rest looks amazing.

She was literally Copycat in name only. No powers, not really the same character, so that's not really a valid comparison unless they follow her comic counterpart in the sequel, in which case holy hell will be raised if she doesn't look like that, yes. This is clearly Domino, so her design being rather iconic for her character being changed is more noticeable.

It's skintight and faux-tactical. It's honestly not really worth taking issue with. It's splitting the finest hairs.

The costumes in those pics look more like Black Widow's body suit (w more accessories), which we've seen interpreted on film, which def gives a different look to what we see here (tank, long gloves, knee boots). If any of this seems like splitting hairs, it's probably because Deadpool's costume set the bar pretty damn high.

I was disappointed because Copycat was a cool character with awesome powers

Nice, but not sure if I like how the "eye patch" looks, probably should've been kept black(or is it a very dark shade of blue?).

Now that is a point worth talking about. I've got a feeling they have to reveal her powers in 2 right? I understand they didn't in 1 because they didn't have the space and didn't want to confuse people, but with domino in the mix they've got to.

Funny enough, I could see Deadpool's girlfriend.

Actually, that IS funny, because in the comics:

-Domino was introduced in 1991

-Two years later in 1993 it was revealed (/retconned) that she had been replaced by an imposter since her introduction and we as readers had never actually seen the "real" Domino

-That imposter character's name was Vanessa Carlysle, a mutant with shapeshifting powers like Mystique

-The "real" Domino arrived and (as usually happens in comics when something like this happens) had exactly the same personality and everything as fake Domino we'd known for the last two years

-The writers used Vanessa as Deadpool's love interest for a minute (then she fucked off and went away forever, never to be seen again AFAIK)

-a hundred years later they made a Deadpool movie and used Vanessa as the love interest

...so what I'm saying is, that character actually WAS Domino at first, oddly enough.

She could be explained away as having gotten them from the end events, yes. I would be surprised if they're there though. Pleasantly surprised.

sideeyeing all the 'hair too black' posts

Nobody is actually saying this.

I can't even follow your comments, so at this point I don't know what point you are making about anything.

As for Copycat, yeah, people brought it up. I was expecting her to turn blue when she got put in the container near the end.

They put a little white in her hair in at least one scene and I assume that was a nod to her comic appearance.

IIRC the cast was asked about it a few times at fan Q&As, and they said they might bring Vanessa's powers and stuff in for the sequel. I'm still hoping for it because Copycat is great and she was actually the original Domino introduced in the comics, since the real Dom had actually been kidnapped.

Edit: that pic looks like it's from AoA though, so I don't expect her to look just like that.

A beautiful woman with awesome hair who looks just like a real-life version of Domino.

"I don't like it."

I really don't know what some people expect. She looks incredible.

While I haven't read too many comics with Domino in them, this actor looks nothing like any Domino I've seen in comics. But considering how accurate Fox nailed Deadpool's character in the first movie, I don't have any doubts Domino will be good.

The suit is fine, though.

Copycat was present or relevant throughout a good chunk of the original Deadpool mini series and ongoing series, which were among the more defining stories for both characters.

But then they killed her off toward the end of the series and I don't know that they have done anything meaningful with her since then.

I guess I just lack the imagination that can see a Domino looking Domino working in this movie. So to me this take seems like a great and creative version that still has a domino feel but a grounded enough look.

With all the talk about it though I'm curious to see the fourth wall mentions to the character.

It's an interesting take on the character, but can't blame anyone if they would have preferred something more true to the comic.

Not sure about the eye color thing they're doing
Edit: or perhaps that's just the shadow that makes her other eye look so much darker

And the character designer wants Zazie to keep her natural hair.

That was a rather short lived debate, glad we could end it.

If it didn't say "Domino Promo Shot" I wouldn't have any idea who this was supposed to be.

Other than the look I remember, which is an utter failure here, the on screen persona is totally up for grabs. I have little to no memory to work from when it comes to Domino's personality in the comics. Did she even have powers? Wasn't she Cable's girlfriend or something?

I only know the character losely, but I must admit I'm not a huge fan of this version, she really just looks nothing like the character from the comics.

I don't see why something like this couldn't have been what they went for. Fits the aesthetics of the deadpool movie, and it actually looks like the character

Kind of tangential, but does Domino have any weaknesses? Never knew about the character so I did a quick look up. Her powers are pretty sweet but they almost seem too good. Just curious really.

Not a fan of this at all.

I'm all for casting people of different races in whatever roles, but they could have at least tried to make the character.. look like the character.

I hope Neena gets a fro in the comics.

Domino is such an inspired choice for the next movie. She's such a fun character.

Conegates on your trash opinion.
