Donkey Kong Country Returns announced [N-CONF]

This year I will have put a new Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, Kirby, and Mario game all together on my shelf. This truly makes me a very happy person.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Nintendo's first party output has been amazing.

Great stuff, too bad they couldn't get a good looking box art for the Metroid Prime games. :lol

Awesome to have Rambi back. Fuck you Hoofer!

I don't get the love for the box.

I mean it's OK, but... it's a box. It's not a work of art like, say, the Kirby boxart is. (I'm actually anticipating DKCR much more than Kirby btw.)

All box art is art. Art can be bad. Good thing this one isn't.

The boxart is pretty cool. It's quite colorful, energetic, and nostalgic.

Add me to the list of anticipating this game over anything else this year.

Also, the first thing I'll do is beat the game and then copy my save file and play the game in Dolphin to see the better parts in HD.

And with that music track.
Fixed!

Why would you do that? said:

You know, given DKCR does away with the pirate theme, I agree. Welcome to Crocodile Isle is the better track, though.

The way "Returns" blends with the background [because of the colors] bothers me, other than that, I like it...

I think the "Country" blends in more with all that green everywhere. They should have used the original typeface for it, but its fine I guess.

I'll never understand people's hatred for CG art. :\

I like you. I never could get into DKC2&3... felt way too different.

Funny since they were all composed by the same guy (with other people too, but still)

Forgive me for being out of the loop, but do we know what the control scheme will be like for DK Returns? Is it gonna be the standard nunchuk + wiimote? Cuz I could see the horizontal wiimote style being used like Other M/NSMB Wii and actually working very well with this.

Well, not music wise... I just couldn't get into the games. I do like the music from DKC2 and 3, though.

Both are options.

Thankfully there's still someone associated with Nintendo that actually does this most obvious solution.

You can actually use the Wii Remote/Nunchuck combo with New Super Mario Bros Wii.
I figured this out like 2 months ago and was aghast.

What.

Good to hear they're allowing for both set ups, it really is the best option. I'll definitely go with just the 'mote but I'm glad those who don't dig the set up won't suffer. Good stuff, I'm looking forward to this and I haven't played as DK (aside from Smash Bros) since the 64.

What's so special about Jungle Beat, anyways? ... Can you use the bongos from the GC on the Wii version? I bought those shits and never used 'em.

You can't use them. The NPC version is also very good, but the original is superior.

Think a combo based platformer made by the team that made Galaxy. I could say it's better than both Galaxies and it wouldn't sound farfetched at all.

Donkey Kong Country 2 is better than Jungle Beat.

I love Jungle Beat but DKC2 is among the greatest 2D platformers made. It's not only a brilliant audiovisual experience but it took the rather pedestrian mechanics of DKC and went nuts with it. For the most part the game's level design is up there with Nintendo's best.

Jungle Beat is certainly better than the other two DKC games though.

You may very well not like it. It's controls are definately intimidating, and if you're not using combos the leves seem pretty standard.

I thought bosses were amazing. Both Kong fights, and regular ones.

But seriously, once you start going for the combos and stuff, it becomes one the most ingenous platformers ever concieved, with some of the best level design in gaming.
