DOOM (Holiday 2017) and Wolfenstein II (2018) Announced for Nintendo Switch

Can we finally agree that Nintendo is Doomed?

He was replying to my previous post about gyro controls on the Doom port. Without a senor bar like the Wii for the inferred pointer, you'd have to reset position for the gyro during game play.
I know. But I don't see how a backwards facing IR camera that can see shapes would help with gyro aiming. So you bringing it up serves no purpose here.

I want to watch a play through of TNO but I feel like they may poet it over or have IT with a package with 2, decisions.

Hell naw. They're probably barely fitting this into the cartridge. Hell, they're probably going to require you to download the game code separately since they could only fit the textures on the cartridge.

In the past I would have objected to Doomguy in smash, but after they put fucking solid snake in anything goes frankly.

There's a better case for Doom Slayer honestly, with the chainsaw, melee emphasis, and the plasma based weapons.

He's also more important to the history of gaming, AND he has more relevance to Nintendo platforms as well.

You can easily put him in, although his most iconic weapon is probably the double barrelled shotgun. I reckon they'd do either a rocket launcher or plasma gun depending on how they wanted him to behave. BFG would be like a final smash.

Doomguy kinda occupies this weird limbo between Nintendo characters fitting because Nintendo, and Snake fitting because he's so outlandish in not fitting, which was his primary appeal.

I said in my post that it was on back on the joycon implying its of no use.

Some people were talking about the possibility of gyro controls, and I responded saying I couldn't imagine how well it could work on the Switch without a sensor bar like the Wii.

I thought when he said the the Switch has no IR pointer he might have not known about the joycons IR camera.

On the same caetrirgde or not the main problem is knowing if they will port it over or not

Shotgun could maybe work if the firing effect was presented more as an short range explosive blast (maybe set the opponent on fire like Samus' up smash?). Something like the Heavy Assault Rifle's primary fire definitely wouldn't fly, though. Assault Rifle Micro Missiles, Plasma Rifle, Plasma Pistol, Rocket Launcher, Gauss Cannon, and grenades should all be fair game. Would be interesting to see how the weapons and their alt-fire mods would be worked into a moveset. Chainsaw seems ripe for smash attacks, with glory kill-style punches and kicks being reserved for tilts.

Jesus, we're talking about Doom Slayer in Smash.

Honestly, I think the problem here is that DOOM isn't really anywhere near as big in Japan as it is in the west.

I think Sakurai wants the third party characters in Smash to have global recognition and appeal. Most people who are gamers across the globe know who Sonic, Pac-Man, Ryu, Cloud, Mega Man and Snake are. On the flip side, characters like Doom Slayer, Lara Croft, Rayman, etc may be famous to us to in the west, but they're small time in the east. Japan doesn't really view them as icons as we do.

So ultimately, I think Sakurai wants third parties that can get both the western and japanese audiences excited. To make things more fair, this is why I honestly don't see there being a Dragon Quest character, considering it has the opposite problem of something like Tomb Raider: it's a phenomenon in Japan, but hardly anyone cares about it over here in the west. It just wouldn't get everyone excited in the same way characters like Mega Man and Cloud did.

I know about the IR camera, but that has nothing to do with any possible sensor bar. For one, it senses distance and shapes and I don't think it works in the same way as on the Wii Remote. Second as said, it's on the bottom of the Joy-con.

What I'm basically saying, if there were a sensor bar for the Switch, what would be its purpose?

Didn't stop Little Mac or Bayonatte who is more western base.

After watching today's Wolfenstein II trailer, it's even more amazing that Nintendo gave this a spotlight in the Direct. The same Nintendo that made id change the dogs into rats, replace blood with "sweat" and remove all Nazi iconography from SNES Wolfenstein 3D.

Well, that was well over two decades ago and Nintendo has allowed (and even published) some pretty crazy stuff on their hardware since that time.

I haven't seen doom, la noire, or wolfenstein available for pre order yet on Amazon.

Yet I can find la noire for example to pre order on gamestop

I'm assuming they'll come to Amazon eventually?

You can pre-order Doom on Gamestop's website. It's listed at $60 and has a generic placeholder release date.

Whoppers were also $0.99 cents back then lol. Long time ago man.

I wish they'd included an infrared sensor bar like the Wii. I can't imagine gyro controls being as effective on the Switch when having to manually reset during game play.

Gyro is better in my opinion as its more consistant, and you arent aiming at a sensor, you are just moving your controller. Having to push a single button once in a while is worth the sacrifice. (I only have to reset in Splatoon 2 if I get really pissed and throw my hands around after dying lol)

Thanks!

The next one coming soon is L.A noire since it has a release already in November, hopefully I can find it

Edit: Noire is nowhere to be seen on Amazon, at least I can't find it

There's no footage of the remaster and barely any info. Listing will probably go up when 2K reveals more.

It's Sony who cencored BMX XXX on PS2 and Microsoft that cencored Conker's Bad Fur Day on XBox while Nintendo's consoles got uncencored versions of those. We don't live in 90s anymore.

Aiming at a sensor is easy. You just point towards the tv and make sure you don't get direct sunlight on it.

Gyro may be more precise, but its sluggish as hell. IR aiming with fast turn speeds, small to no dead zone boxes can have you aim just about anywhere and is superior to dual analog and gyro in every way. And resetting calibration in a middle of an online match would be really annoying and game breaking.

I hope Nintendo releases a controller and sensor bar to support ir controls again.

Best timeline

They should call him Mr. Doot, tho

Why do people still say this stuff? It's all over the comments of Doom or Wolfenstein content now. This stuff may have been novel in maybe the Wii days but Nintendo has shown time and time again they are fine with hard M games.

The more surprising thing is that a modern Bethesda FPS game is being brought to the Switch.

They were fine with M rated games back on the Gamecube and even the N64. It seems gamers are the ones still stuck in the past when it comes to Nintendo allowing M rated games to go uncensored.

Oh yeah the time when neither Xbox nor PlayStation were a thing, Yamauchi was alive and the CEO and Iwata became President of HAL.

Feels like yesterday.

Counterpoint: In Splatoon 2 with gyro aiming, you can aim behind yourself in an instant. (not saying splatoon 2 gyro would work for DOOM, just saying gyro is much more versatile.

Because as long as Nintendo's mascot is a three foot tall colorful Italian plumber and Microsoft's is a 7 foot tall cyborg in olive drab with a machine gun, people will call Nintendo a "kiddie company".
