DOOM (Holiday 2017) and Wolfenstein II (2018) Announced for Nintendo Switch

Can we finally agree that Nintendo is Doomed?

Hummm, looks like in 2018 I'm getting a Switch if the support continue this way. I'm sure will end-up buying this, another plus now the company that I work for offer employees shuttle home - work - home. I started take it (driving is really starting to bore me) and all I do is listen to podcasts, a Switch can be good companion (it's 45mn of drive if no traffic).

Little bit pissed off that there's a damn embargo on a preview of a game though...

It's super common, it basically puts all of the media outlets on a level playing field regardless of who gets invited to play the game first and whatnot.

EDIT: One embargo down, now when's the other one...

That would probably require more of a general graphics downgrade than the footage seems to show

Not to mention that, even with the compression we've seen from the footage release so far, and assuming this was a near-final version in docked mode, it certainly doesn't look crisp enough to be 900p docked.

I'd love to eat crow though.

Perhaps they increased the embargo date last minute because they are afraid of dissapointing people expecting 60fps :P

I think its far more realistic to expect 30fps to be honest. But pleasantly surprised if it is 60fps! There is just too much action going on in some scenes for the poor little Switch to handle a locked 60fps with its weaker CPU and GPU.

Just imagine if this comes out and it's 120FPS undocked. I'm sure we are in store for major surprises.

We ready for that original Doom port! :D

Edit: It's time to stop beating around the bush, and just call it before solid info comes out. Nothing to loose but a little pride.

So what'll it be GAF? 30 or 60?

I said 60 from day one and I'm not about to back down now.

"However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or IGN itself. Only Bethesda knows.

Can't wait until we get conflicting reports.

"It felt 60 fps to me"

"No, it's definitely 30 fps"

And then Bethesda completely silent until December.

doesn't OG Doom max out at 35fps?

Pretty sure. No reason that classic Doom in all official iterations couldn't be on Switch that I know of, but I'm no expert and speaking from the outside.

But if I can play classic Doom on Switch, I'd pay for it. I'd pay $10 for Doom 1, 2, Final faster than I'd pay $60 for the latest Doom (since I bought it at full price once and another time on sale already).

I'm okay with a solid 45fps. I know people will laugh at me, but I honestly can't tell the difference from 45fps and 60fps. I use the stream overlay fps counter in the corner of my screen and can't tell the difference.

Are there some nice references in Doom 2016 that you would only "get" if you played the original or Doom II? Or anything that would make me enjoy the game more if I had played the original first?

From what I recall of the originals, not really. The only backstory you really need for DOOM 2016 is that there was a guy who was really, really good at murdering demons.

Turns out that's you

Definitely, ranging from obvious to subtle.

Or maybe listen to this guy, I guess I'm not super up to date on Doom lore.

on the right display 45fps is alright. It's only for 5 off from 50 and 50hz pal has been with us for quite sometime.

As for people laughing at you just remind them they use fixed pixel displays that really are only good at one resolution that have massive amounts of pixel persistence and shit colors they paid way too much for.

The achievement list, some of the music cues, enemy behavior, a few visual easter eggs.

If you haven't bought D 1/2 yet, they're dirt cheap on Steam and classics; get them.

I wasn't thinking so much as lore, as
he unlockable classic levels, the recreation of the "Dead Simple" map in one of the hell levels, and the Icon of Sin showing up and giving you a bobble head if you hit its weak point. Stuff like that.

I do have them on Steam, but I don't play on my PC at all, at least these days I don't have a comfortable setup and I'm too busy/lazy to fix it. Switch is my only jam. Edit: Wait, there's a homebrew Doom port for 3DS right? Is it good? I have a N3DS XL but haven't used it since Switch launched.

I did play a bit of Doom and Doom II long time ago on PC, not much though, and I've seen other people play it (not from start to finish though). So maybe I'll still get a kick out of the music cues and enemy behavior?
