Sony smash bros just made me think of something... wouldn't dota smash bros be awesome :D

I really need to start grouping up with people... pubs are going to give me a stroke :(

interesting approach. I've never really thought of that approach, since his HP pool is pretty much going to be low. I think I'd rather have platemail-->Curiass on him than a hood, but it depends.
A fair chunk of Viper's DPS will come through Nethertoxin damage ramping up as enemy health begins to decrease, so additional health from something like a Vanguard can give you an edge in a slugging match.

I'm about to write off OD like I did shadow demon. I understand shadow demon needing a decent team, but I think OD is just a bad hero.

I don't see why people think he's a great hero. Look at him. I can spend 12 minutes of the game winning middle and be helpless afterwards. Here's my problems with him:

-Low Range
-Low Health
-Magic Based Damage, so he can be silenced or bkb'd against, absolutely nothing you can do when this happens. Also can't farm ancients, and can't benefit from lifesteal or other orb effects since his orb overwrites it.
-Bad chasing power, no movement speed.
-No escape power. If a team decides to gank you, you are mostly likely dead.

I honestly think he's worst than sniper. He's my only ranged carry with a negative w/l and <1 K:D Is he even picked in pro games?

Tell that to Swag. Literally 1v5d (no not really) the whole enemy team in an IH. You just need teammates around you, or people willing to be idiots and just take you on toe to toe.

Reading through Ogre Magi's response lines... They are the greatest thing ever.

Using Multicast

  • Damn. We're good.
  • Now that's skill. Well I practice a lot.
  • Did you mean to do that? Yep.
[*]That's how we do. Pure skill.
  • Expertise! From the experts.
[*]Oh, skillshot! Not luck at all.
  • That was so good. We had to do it again.
  • That was so good. We had to do it again.
  • Once is not enough. It's just as high as we can count.

The bolded is pretty wrong. He has one of the best chasing abilities in the game - you just need to get in range to cast it (hence buying a push stick). Same applies for having no escape power; He can make himself immune for like 5 seconds (or someone who's chasing him). If you're getting ganked by the entire enemy team you're going to die anyways because you weren't paying attention. Push stick really takes away a lot of his faults.

Also his ult is awesome.

I think what you're missing here is that Doters is a game of counter picking. If the enemy team picked a bunch of heroes with silences/magic immunities then OD isn't the best choice.

Oh yeah, force staff. Should be core item on him.

How should I be building Necrolyte? I read that I should really focus on making him tankier with strength items (like Vanguard).

I agree, but OD far fewer moments (are there any?) where picking him over others is the ideal. Maybe if you need someone who can fight against AM later game, but that seems like a weird decision to me.

I don't know how Schweinehund doesn't have fun with him, though. His late game damage is all too satisfying. That pure damage and ult. Blow everything up (that aren't magic immune)

My games usually don't last long enough for me to get serious farm on him. I usually end with treads/force staff/2x null/maybe a ultimate orb as I try to build toward sheep.

I don't find OD appealing because he doesn't have a unique, fun mechanic, and I don't think he's that great. Enchantress is an example of an int carry I like to play. I'd also rather carry on silencer as well.

It's his range that ruins it for me I think. I don't like the idea of a fragile carry that has mediocre range.

Anyone get a Found Item message at the end of a game recently? I just played a game and 3 dudes found Item #2093324234 something. Didn't know if this has been happening a bunch or not.

I've got a proposal I'd like to implement fairly soon- any critique on this would be welcomed. I'm hoping there's enough DOTA GAF people to do this. Let me also know if you're willing to participate (either as a student or teacher). In order to get the ball rolling, I'll moderate matches once things get going.

Purpose- To provide a structured mechanism in which a good group of people can learn/improve their DOTA 2 play through constructive coaching while minimizing the amount of overhead required for veteran players to teach the game. This will also hopefully foster a larger group of GAF Dota players to form their own MM teams the rest of the time.

Structure

- Weekly 5 on 5 formal recorded scrimmage (allot maybe an hour or so)- Each team will be supported with 1 veteran coach each (spectator or player). For each scrimmage, there will be an overarching theme. Examples would be- How to deal with insert pub stomper here. Matches will have mandatory 2 min pauses: One at the end of the laning phase, and one before late game (either when all tier 1 or all tier 2 towers have fallen). During this time, each team is to constructively discuss with themselves what the opponent is doing and a set of objectives that they would like to achieve as well as any comments that coaches would like to make.

- Before Each Scrimmage- There will be a sign up post for participants (first come first serve) along with a description of what the scrimmage theme is which is open for any discussion

- After Each Match- Match ID will be posted and people are encouraged (if you played, please watch) to watch and offer any critique posts (Good plays, bad plays etc...).

Individual Roles and Conduct- Given how toxic the DOTA 2 community can be, this will be strictly enforced and I'd like people to be on their best behavior in terms of how criticism is taken and received. In general leave your ego at the door. All participants need to have mics setup for voice chat (no compromise)

Student- As the person who stands to benefit the most from this session, please follow through with your attendance, play at your best but be open to any criticism on your play. At the same time please be patient with teammates that are struggling. Wins and losses don't matter so there should be no reason for you to complain. Remember, you're here to improve your own game, not pubstomp. Also, please commend coaches after the session for their help.

Coach/Mentor/Teacher- Your main purpose will be to offer any constructive criticism individually as well as offering suggestions on how a team should approach overall goals. Depending on factors such as how many students, or scrimmage theme, you'll either be a player or an observer. You will also be called upon to determine the proper time to pause the game for mandatory team discussion. A bit more detail below

- Observer- If teams are full on students, you'll take the observer slot.
- Player Coach- If teams don't have enough players, you'll play whatever role that the students aren't filling (most likely support).
- Player for Lesson of the Week- If the lesson of the week revolves around a specific hero, you will be tasked to play that specific hero.

As you are the most important individuals of this match, students will be encouraged to commend you guys and schedules will be catered more favorably to you so that it's easier for you to participate.

Moderator- Make sure the match runs smoothly and on time. Mandatory pauses as well as any technical/conduct issues will be dealt with appropriately.

Conduct- There is a zero tolerance for bad behavior in general. Obnoxious players will lose their privilege to sign up for the following match. Repeat offenders will be banned from participation.

This just the first iteration off the top of my head. Any constructive suggestions are very welcomed. Right now, my biggest concern is getting proper participation by both coaches and students (incentives for mentors to participate?), a formalized communication system (how many voice channels? mumble server available? in game voice chat?), as well as conduct enforcement (Most importantly, I want everyone to be laid back and jovial).

what do you guys recommend for ursa build? I've been loving life steal

mom+ult =mmmm

but I really have no clue what else I should go for.. I get the magic wand too :)

attack speed items I assume? but what?

plz tell me by mom you don't mean mask of madness.

you don't need to stack attack speed on ursa because his second ability gives you 400% attack speed... So you go vlads + blink dagger (or shadow blade) for the lifesteal and the ability to get in melee range for an overpower or for a confident three shot, and then depending on how the game is going you get something like bkb, heart or basher, etc...

np mom is an orb and so using mom basically cancels out your 3rd skill (also an orb) which is also your strongest skill. that's the reasoning behind vlads. not many people know this but i'm EG.GNRZ.eNeMy so it's kinda my job to know this stuff lol.

well, thank you (stranger) EG.GNRZ.eNeMy, that'll really help :)

I assume you're some kinda pro dota player ;P <3 I appreciate it. You may find me PMing you randomly for advice :)

Wonder if the items we find in beta will transition to retail, or if they won't put the system out there fully until retail.

Would be awesome if we do get to keep stuff :3.

While bokr is correct, he isn't a pro. I demand that you rescind your complement as he has intentionally misled you to stroke his ego.

I don't appreciate insubordination EG.GNRZ.EG.GNRZ.xXFr0sTy_T1pZXx aka "the iceberg." You may find yourself in the same situation as our dear old 4rch4N3MY soon...

Pro is sporting that double pair of Gunnarz?

Taking it to the next level, I see.

Anyone in this thread a gamer from Australia? I've been trying to play this a fair bit recently but it just seems like the latency I'm getting is making a huge difference to how I can play the game.

I've seen a few videos posted of other people playing without lag, and the response looks awesome, but whenever I try to play I get spikes where it can take 1-2 seconds for my hero to respond to my move commands.

It's a bit off-putting for me, I was wondering if anyone else is having the same issue or if it might just be that I have bad internet. I know Australia generally gets worse latency but I've never seen it be this bad, or affect a game this much.
