Why are Sniper and Drow some of the best carrys?
Also can anyone tell me why Lich isn't used much in the current metagame?
It's a joke. Drow and Sniper are pretty crappy carries IMO.

sniper rox anyone who disagreE SUX
PW neogaf for inhouse
I want to give shadow demon a try, but his ultimate seems pretty useless. I know that probably isn't the case though. Is there a list of buffs it disables?
I'm not sure about the buff part but it's a pretty large cast range slow with a short cooldown. Also does 400 damage and even more if you have Soul Catcher on them.
Ah, so if the debuff function more a secondary thing?
Yeah sniper's not a great carry. But he's still one of my favourite heroes to play. I just play him as more of a support/ganker for most of the game. It's a joke. Drow and Sniper are pretty crappy carries IMO.
still no colorblind mode? this is getting ridiculous.

There is still no swap in SD and RD, and it to LoL over 2 years after to implement one (They did it in January 2012). It will come, but its gonna take a while.

Courier is definitely a must-learn thing. It's pretty simple too. You can just use the buttons on the new UI if you want - one of them makes to courier go to the fountain in your base (if he's not already there) and retreive any items that are in your stash, for instance if you couldn't buy them at the side shop or if you're mid. The other button has the courier walk from your base to you and give you your items automatically. Very useful as it eliminates a lot of the need for you to go back and forth to your base's shop. Personally I hotkey the courier itself to #2 and use D to retrieve items and F to order it to give me my items. It also has other functions such as returning items to stash, giving it a temporary speed boost etc...After about 20 hours worth of Dota 2, I had my first good game where I "carried" the team with Lich. I was able to solo a lane against 2 heroes and smother them with sacrifices and then destroy them a few times with my ultimate. I'm not claiming they were good players or that I'm a good player, but it felt good to finally feel in control for once.
Next up, need to learn how to use the courier and wards. The learning curve for this game is very steep considering the community isn't amazing and there are a lot of great players out there who will just stomp me. I found I needed to learn the basic tactics, hero control, and how to shop before I get into learning how to control the field with wards and couriers.
Great advice, thanks Helmholtz! I will definitely be branching out. It really is amazing how much depth there is to each hero.
See, this is why this game is so cool. I almost never, ever play jungle heroes, and I never feel like I'm in my zone when I do. Yet other people, like yourself, feel most at home playing them. I swear everyone's preferences and playstyles are different to some degree. My biggest crutch is that I only feel really comfortable playing jungle characters where I can avoid enemy players until around early mid game. I dont feed the other team early and I can be a positive contribution once Im established.
Beta. I don't think it's ridiculous.
maybe I'm the only one that averages 14/2/16 with her. I've stopped picking her because I always feel like I'm cheating now.
it's something that should be implemented in alpha. we don't talk about some minor problem it's a defect which affects 8% of all males and it makes the game unplayable for anyone 'suffering' from it. it's such an easy fix, which makes it even worse. 2 lines of code maybe.
it's 2012 and we shouldn't have to beg for this stuff.
What is a good class for a DOTA 2 newb?
how does PL classify as a carry? So far I use the default recommended items, (ring of aq, boots (sometimes mana boots), and diffusal blade) don't really seem to know how to land the blows after I have landed the lance.
Its a powerful initiator yes and great chase down (I tried using phase boots with doppel walk, that was awesome) but not sure how to play it "properly".
Any tips?

I'm colorblind aswell but I understand that their priorities lie elsewhere right now. They're too busy working on the game itself to worry about optimizing it for a small group of people.
but we're not that small of a group. almost 10% of all males. i'm sure thats a bit more important than adjusting some numbers and it would take less time too.

Ursa and Huskar are retardedly easy to use in pubs. I find them very boring.
After I get like 4 kills, someone on the other team says "fed Ursa, gg" and they don't know how to deal with me. They come at me alone, or without stuns/disables. =/
I have only played both twice.
Supporter.
I disagree. Warding can get complicated.
Warding in pub level is easy, just ward the runes and the jungle if you're laning top dire-bot Radiant. Unless the other team is good, then those spots will be enough.I disagree. Warding can get complicated.
As Pepper said, Ursa is stupidly easy to use in pubs. I'd start with him.

On a side note, how do you determine when to use sentry wards vs. gem of true sight vs. dust?
If you have a tanky player that rarely dies, get a gem on him. Sentry wards are nice for dewarding and dust is nice for unreliable invis heroes like Sand King or Brood.
That's the way I see it at least, you can always combine them all anyway if needed. Against Riki just get a force staff to escape his smoke.
Dewarding seems really complicated. Is there anything more you can do than just educated guesswork?
In pubs (if they have any wards at all) they are usually in the same places anyway. It will be guesswork in the end, but just put them on the high ground near Roshan and the top rune and they are most likely to be some there.
Also the 2 highspots in the teams jungles maybe. There are some nice guides for the best warding/dewarding spots but I don't have a link handy atm.
Just do this: If there are ever 2 sets of wards in the shop, you have failed.Warding Guide
My problem with warding is that I'll remember to ward in the beginning but at some point, I'll stop and it usually coincides with saving up to build pipe or mek. So I'll either ward a ton but never have enough to save for mek/pipe or not ward but have mek/pipe... I try not to jack kills as support but man it really sucks when your farm is limited...
25-2 and 24-4 in two pubs yesterday. I think he main problem is if you get ganked there isn't really anything you can do about it, or that you need a lot of farm and she can't farm easy.... idk I'm no pro
always have 200g for wards if you're playing support for the team (or if nobody else is doing it). It's hella easy to farm that 200g back, and the vision will either get your team several kills, or protect them from getting killed several times. There is really no item so valuable that foregoing wards makes sense. Not ever. Wards win games more than any other purchasable item in this game.Warding Guide

this.Ursa is the best pub stomper, huskar has a lot of counters. Just about any cc/burst or necro/viper can shut him down pretty easily.
