Man, that EG vs M5 game was pretty awesome. EG was just out maneuvered the whole time, but they put up a helluva fight and it made it very fun to watch.

I solo queue most of the time, I actually enjoy abandonment queue way more. I never go up against stacks of 3 or more, also I think I've met the most hilarious people on there. Takes only about 5 mins longer to find a game, I usually just turn on another game or watch PVRed stuff.

Does anyone use the hero guides linked to the pictures in the next OT? I might just scrap that "feature" if no one does. If people do use it though I'll update the next OT to use Dotafire guides instead, otherwise I'll just link straight to Dotafire and have people look up guides themselves

I usually skip the first page as I always believe the OP's lazy and all the info is outdated =P

That being said, DOTAFire guides are excellent and they provide in-depth info as well as quick info for alt+tabbing players (I'm playing only random to test all heroes, so I usually run and check a build during prep time)

If anything, replace the picture links with Dota2wiki links.

Are we going to make the new topic right at 20k, or just do it when 6.75 is out in dota 2?

I didn't realize that was actually a feature of the OP.

Think I'm just gonna scrap linking to guides from pictures, I want to condense everything to one post to try and avoid massive OTs. I'll put up some big pic links to Dotafire so new players know where to look for guides, and I already slashed down the hero list so it's a lot smaller and neater.

Most of the Dotafire guides I've seen are awful.

I've browsed through a bunch of them, there are some good ones up now. Certainly don't go there looking for innovation but they're more than helpful for new players.

Anyways I'm pretty much finished with the OT3, just gotta add a small I'M NEW, WHO DO I PLAY section. Everything is condensed to one post now.

I thought Swag made the Dota2 OT's.

I don't think hero guides teach anything useful. They actually reinforce this idea of static builds when people should realize from the beginning that you go for different builds depending on the game.

At most use http://www.dota2alttab.com/ to get a general idea.

Depends on the guide, I guess. The better ones will teach you how to play that hero and will give you some room to adapt your build.

Nice site (dota2alttab)!

I've been playing some Puck and so far it's one of my fave chars in the game, with Dark Seer. I would like some help with the items though.

I've been going Magic Wand, Phase Boots, two Bracers, then Blink Dagger, then Bloodstone. The problem is, early game,I run out of mana way too often. I've thought about going only one Bracer and so I can start building Bloodstone earlier, and I've also thought about going Mana Boots, but with the piss poor base damage, Phase Boots look like a must for him. Maybe I could ignore Bloodstone and go Shiva's? Any advice?

Go mid, get a Bottle, Wand, Treads if you're mid and have a bottle (keeping these on Strength helps you survive a big longer for escapes), Arcanes if you're not mid and don't have a bottle. Get one Bracer, go into Blink from that, turn the Bracer into a Drum of Endurance, then it's pretty much whatever you need/can get of Linken's or Sheepstick. I really like Linken's on Puck, since it really gives you the chance to pop off that Phase Shift and Blink out.

Remember: You can Blink directly out of Phase Shift. A fully leveled Phase Shift lasts longer than the 3 second disable for Blink Dagger if you get hit, so you can wait it out with that. I've escaped plenty of teamfights that went wrong and ended up 5v1 by using that.

The purpose of guides (as far as I see) is to give new players a place to start. It's really difficult to wrap your head over choosing between different items and skills when you don't even know why you would pick one over the other. Most experienced players won't bother looking up guides because they have a far better grasp of the fundamentals.

Why would anyone alt+tab instead of just using the Steam browser. Sure I'm not going to browse GAF from the Steam browser, but for something I dont need to be logged in for it's much easier.

I'm trying out the Q-voker starting mid build on TA (Blades of Attack + Tango) with Psi Blades at level 1 and so far it's paying dividends. Before I get cocky and build it every time, is there any mid who can punish me for this? I think Viper can, but that's about it.

The thing you have to remember is Q heavy Invoker will deal less damage then other builds, but have a bunch of crowd control.

He's talking about templar assassin, not invoker.

Can't think of a scenario where you'd really get punished, most ta's rush bottle anyway. Cold snap invoker might be able to punish your slow bottle though.

Yeah, I remember when I first started playing dota 4-5 years ago, guides are the only thing that kept me from rage quitting. I would bring up a guide, and every level/well-trip I would alt-tab and pick out my items/skills. Once I started to pickup builds (skillup and items) for my favorite heroes, I slowly got better and better. Items can be very very overwhelming for a newbie, even skillups--I know they were for me. Sure a cookie-cutter build 100% of the time build with little fundamental skills won't cut it in high tier, but you need to keep in context the bracket some people are playing in.

You don't need the extra 9 dmg, as branch branch branch tango into bottle is all you need, as refraction provides all of your dmg. If you're laning against something that has more dmg then you (ie. tiny) or something you don't want getting last hits (ie. sf) you go refraction at lvl 1, and automatically win the creep wave and hit lvl 2 anyways. Bottle early lets you spam refraction, which lets u splash down waves for rune control and keep refraction up.

I actually ran into this one time, but I just sat in Meld until the debuff wore off. The caveat is that I need to keep enough mana for Meld at all times, but that's not too big an issue.

I'm not getting the blade of attack so much to get farm as I am trying to bully the enemy out of lane. Yeah I don't "need" the extra damage to last hit when I have Refraction, but stacking Refraction with a blade of attack makes Psi Blade harass even more potent. Also, I'm fairly sure that the bonus damage from Refraction doesn't proc on denies, so the blade of attack helps with that as well. So far I've been able to get a bottle by ~3 minutes or sooner so I'm able to keep Refraction up most of the time until then anyway.

you can get it in the first creep wave. again, bottle gives u so much more mana for refraction, which is basically ur best tool in winning the lane, b/c it gives you so much +dmg along with a dmg shield. also dmg does work on denies, but iirc doesn't get removed, much like kunkka's tidebringer.

Drow Ranger

- Frost Arrow's slow increased from 50% to 60% at level 4
- Marksmanship level 3 agility bonus increased from 45 to 60
- Trueshot Aura damage bonus increased from 7/14/21/28% to 8/16/24/32%
- Silence cooldown decreased from 15 to 13

Good god, sounds scary as fuck. Orb walking should be a heck of a lot easier too.

why are u guna make me lane lycan, no more 100 cs by 15 mins :(

and terrorblade revert makes me sad. everything else is ok

Treant Protector

- Overgrowth no longer does damage

I haven't expected them to make him less viable than he was in his current state. Now frog needs to remove damage from Leech Seed to make Treant utterly useless as a damage dealer.
