Updates: Updates to the game occur every Wednesday at approx. 5pm PST, patched to the Test Server. This is then patched over to the actual game on Thursday.

The following list is only an approximation of what role each hero fulfills. Every hero can be played in a wide variety of ways. It's one of the biggest reasons that DOTA is an ever-evolving complex competitive machine.

Why not put Nature's Prophet and Tinker under Pushers? In my experience, especially with Tinker, Tinker jumps into a major pushing role late game as his nukes fall off some.

Why not put Nature's Prophet and Tinker under Pushers? In my experience, especially with Tinker, Tinker jumps into a major pushing role late game as his nukes fall off some.

Its hard to put either of them under multiple categories without doing it for most heroes.

Tinker can easily be called a pusher, a ganker, support/cc and aoe carry and even a counter pusher.

edit: For new players, Dota Hut is also a good resource for guides. I would check both that and dota fire if the ratings for a guide on either site is negative.

I wish we could get the updates on Wednesday and just have the fact its still in "beta" let us deal with the bugs.

I'm just starting to get into Dota 2 after trying for months now. really enjoying it, but suck so bad.

I'm a little surprised that Skeleton King isn't in the "newbie character" list.

He's a carry, but his passives make him an easy character to grasp early on (as long as you level him properly).

Dotafire has been a great resource for me, and I'm learning a ton about builds as I play.
