Sigh. This is what happens when I lose a game with Luna. Shit doesn't happen often (first loss in 3 months I think), so I just rage pick Drow and beat the shit out of the next team I play. 32-minute farm. If that game had gone 40 minutes, I would have hit 1,000gpm. I'm sure of it.

I'm still mad I lost with Luna. I was shittin on em, but not enough help in the end. The Axe on my team went pipe and scepter instead of blademail and heart/bkb, then wondered why his call wasn't all that helpful. So...ggwp.

Blademail is shit on Axe.

This is how a real Axe does battle. Notice the desperation wards from PA.

After reading about Tusk, he seems like a really interesting hero. Though I suppose snowballing your team into fail ganks could have its repercussions.

Can anyone explain to me why people like spectre? I'm having trouble understanding her appeal.

Because, like Medusa, getting 45 minutes of free farm turns her into an unkillable hellbeast.

Getting there is the problematic part.

Blademail is shit on Axe.

lol?

note to self: take no Axe advice from SamVines.

that is, in fact, as it should be. nicely done. If the Axe I played with had half your IQ, that loss would have been a win.

Blademail
"Returns any damage you take (after reduction) to the unit that dealt the damage."

Berserker's Call
"40 Bonus armor, forces enemies to attack Axe"

Your blademail is doing nothing when you use Berserker's Call. Not only that, if you don't use it in conjunction with the taunt you're giving them even more of a reason not to attack you and proc counter helix, so in a teamfight you're just a walking ball of meat that does absolutely nothing.

I will now take advice on Axe from SamVines. :D

Interesting information. I'll definitely keep this in mind. That said, we're going to have to agree to disagree about its usefulness.

If your non-bm builds work best for you, keep on doing them. I'm sure I'll try a non-bm build soon enough. For me atm, I've found success with it. But your info is definitely illuminating. I still like having it for going up against right-clickers, but I didn't realize the reduction was so bad during call, which is the time when I'd normally have it popped. Perhaps I was looking the damage being done to the heros and misappropriating the reason for said damage to the blademail rather than just the plain old helix. Not sure now.

All 5 enemy heroes bunching in mid towards the end of the game. Im playing Warlock. Cast Shadow Word and shackle all of them, and then summon 4 Golems. Instant rage and over 9000 kills. Priceless

Been farming for item drops in co-op bot match.

It seems the item drops are much better in this mode. I got an item almost every match, and my friend keep getting mythical drops...grrrrrr

Still a pretty good guide.

I like Pipe and shivas on axe if you manage to farm it.

I can't help myself. I was all ready to go to bed, but all this curiosity would have kept me awake at night. I see new shit and have to try it.

Team GAF too stronk. May my blademail builds rest in peace.
You see, Blademale isn't bad on Axe, you just have to find the right time. The time when their right click carries do so much damage that even your 40 armor won't help you. That's the time to pop BC and BM.

What i meant is that it's no less situational on Axe than any other hero, he has a little sinergy because he has a big health pool but i would never buy one unless they opponents have huge aoe magic damage (in which case Pipe would probably be better) or a carry like PA who could crit herself to death before even noticing.

Really glad I decided against that Heart and went with the Satanic. Even before I scooped up that Rapier, it provided quite a bit of sustain and distraction in that fight middle when Medusa showed up with the Divine. One Aegis later, I help finish her off and grab it after it changes hands a few times, finishing the fat Weaver in what seems like two strokes. Wasn't able to rax off the back of it (I was the only hero alive on the map), but I did get the T3 mid. Bought a complete BKB with what I had and went mid with the team to finish things.

On a 7 game winning streak at the moment, I dread what the vengeful Dota gods design.

Open 3 Lotus Chests

Get Lich Ward 2 times

FML

I'll take one.

This game was hilarious, scary, intense, and exciting all at the same time. Seconds into the match, SS kills himself on purpose by rushing mid and dying to towers because he didn't like his team build. I picked Zeus specifically to counter Weaver, only to end up giving him first blood and he started to outfarm me and mess with me. Later we noticed Medusa had a sacred relic and thus was probably building Divine Rapier. Sure enough she did, and we had a massive team fight, where we beat them, but Weaver came up from behind and started to clean up. Botolf grabbed the Divine and it was gg from that point on. BIG THROWS.

Ahahaha, that game. I hope that LS liked the surprise Tornado, Meteor, and deafening blast at Rosh pit. Aimed right for his face.

So I'm still a complete n00b at DOTA2 and I have a question about Axe: How exactly do you play him? I have checked out the hero guide in the OP and followed it and do pretty well but when I was playing with my friend yesterday, he was complaining that Axe should jungle and not lane.

So what is it anyway? Also, how good are those guides in the OP anyway?

Hey Dota GAF,

I was banned in November from GAF but during my down time I got into Dota 2...and lurked the OT thread almost obsessively... :D

I play mostly co-op bot games on medium/hard/unfair as I don't feel ready yet to do public MM games although I have queued in public when invited by someone on my friends list...it's a mix of my own feeling of inadequacy and it feels kinda wrong to solo queue...maybe I'm just weird which is not surprising.

I've been playing shadow demon support for a while now...I got the ward spots down...as for counter warding etc in co-op bot games it's pretty rare to see the a.i lay down wards (I even tested this theory by getting early true sight) so I haven't yet been able to practice counter-warding etc

So should I stop being a fanny and just solo queue?

I have a few of you on my friends list (I'm Mr Affluenza on Steam) but because I'm pretty new to dota I dare not ask for invites to games...lol

that Bastion announcer must be racking in the big money, because it seems near every game I play at least one person has it, if not multiple people, and I really doubt all these people got it in a random drop.

mek axe is best axe.

Axe's usefulness goes down significantly past mid game, may as well stock up on support items so everyone else can build more damage or cc.

Would laugh if they had a bigger net profit selling the announcer pack than the game itself.

LOL this couldn't be farther from the truth. We got matched with him one time and he went 1-12-0 and raged the entire game.

I've only played on his team in game a few times. He seemed alright, only got mad when people didn't listen to him via voice chat ("please don't go into roshan" -> walk into it giving away his position). Passion goes both ways I guess.

So should I stop being a fanny and just solo queue?

You'll never always win playing solo queue and the only way to learn more about the game is to play it. Try to ignore looking at your wins and losses and focus on the game at hand.

It was the first thing I bought in the Dota shop. I loved him in Bastion and he is just as cool and hilarious in Dota.

"Whats up with all the scribbling?!"....cracks me up every time..

Axe excels at being in the thick of the battle and absorbing damage. Buy Blink Dagger, blink in, use Berserker's Call, and hope that you get enough counter helixes and that your team follows up. Keep in mind that you cannot solo their entire team by doing this.

Axe is a good jungler, but he works very well in lane. His counter helix can help you get farm, and battle hunger is a fantastic skill to harass the enemies in the lane. Keep an eye on them, and if they go for a last hit, deny or attack them hoping to get in a spin.

You can only learn so much from bots. As long as you kind of know what to do, just go ahead and jump in. Ask in the GAF channel if anyone wants to queue up. The game is definitely more fun with other people, if only for the fact that you can complain about how awful your teammates were in the party chat.

Personally, I don't like Dotafire because the only good guides there are the ones stolen from Playdota. I used playdota guides almost non stop but nowadays I just play what feels right. Look for the high rated guides 8.0 and up.

Axe can be played in lane and in jungle. He is a pain in the ass against a melee lane though. Helix + Battle Hunger are the most pain in the ass you will ever experience.
Axe should be jungled only if there are no free lanes otherwise.

Don't be a pansy and play real games and add me, Personal_Jebus

You don't need to qualify that. Necrobook number 1 item, tied with Atos. Those two combined is probably the scariest thing in dota.

5 necrobook strat still imba as fuck

Good Dotafire guides are a bit self-selective. They may be A good guide for a hero but usually they are far from exhaustive and really only offer a beginning push. I'd rather read a large discussion about a specific hero and their strategy then follow a guide, though the guides can be useful.

dotahut started updating again, I would check them out. Their featured guides are written by competitive players (not to say that normal players don't write good guides). I would recommend reading a few different guides, reading the comments and then just playing 6-8 games straight as that hero until you get a good feel for it. Keep in mind the date of the guide as well, some of them (like the lycan guide), were published before they did some big changes to the hero and they may no longer be viable. There's also some steam community guides but I haven't read any of them yet.

Also the reddit hero discussions of the day are really good. Some of the old ones also have good write ups.

Why is it that the Lotus keys are selling for $2.90 on the steam marketplace when they can be bought for $2.49 from the store?

It takes 3 days to trade keys if you buy them from the store. Whereas these keys are good to go.

It's hard to make a deal with someone if you say ok I'll buy your Alpine Ursa, just wait 3 days lol.

Can someone tell me why this thread isn't in the Gaming Community sub forum? Every other multiplayer focused game with multiple ot versions lives there.

Not hating, just curious.

what is a good website for hero guides

both dotafire and playdota don't seem very good

Playdota has good guides and every guide has his own discussion section which is helpful as well. If you have trouble reading them because of the old icons, there is a reddit script to fix that.
