Dota 2 Beta Thread 4: Even Mike Ross Plays [Elder Titan]

These are the fucking games why I love Dota so much, even though I hate it.

I solo queued with a 4 stack against a 5 stack.

And thanks to the 4stack, they all played very well, bought wards, upgraded courier and stuff. Called missing and told me when to watch out for ganks.

The other team owned us early game though, but suddenly I had an epiphany. I was playing troll and after I got my Dom Helm, I thought: "What would be the best item against ursa and BS"

And suddenly it hit me. Heavens Halberd. Evasion + 60% miss from my axes, HP, 3,5 disable on poor ursa.... WHAT THE HELL THIS ITEM IS GREAT. Before I built it maybe 2 times during all of my Dota 2 experience.
And the funniest shit was, that after I built HH, ursa and BS did too. Never saw 3 HH in a single game ever. Good thing after a little while I was outcarrying Ursa and BS with ease and I evaded some clutch deaths. Faceless got lucky and evaded every single Laguna Blade that game lol.

At the end of the game they started to realize that I and not FV am the main threat, they stunlocked me pretty good but I managed to hang on with satanic. BKB was already in my courier but after a bad teamfight we just bumrushed their ancient and won.

fucking amazing game

Do you guys remember the first hero you played in your first game of Dota/Dota2?

Tiny. Had no friggin idea what I was doing.

I have no idea. Only thing I remember when we used to play, was that my friends and I all thought Nightstalker was too good. I think that was during the days of APEM though, so I can kinda see why that would be the case haha.

Dota 1? Don't remember. Just remember my friend who had played dota for awhile wrecking us with rikimaru.

Dota 2? Spectre. Went butterfly first ;).

Centaur / Tusk is such a gimmicky lane. Can't get within snowball range or you're insta-dead.

Made even worse when I put down a wall, vacuum'd all 5 enemy heroes into, only for KOTL to blinding light them all away before they touched the wall. FML.

Skeleton King. Because he looked cool. It was my first ever MOBA too. I'd recently come of a SC2 binge (aided partly by having spent some weeks in Korea) and this looked kinda similar. Had no idea how to play though - had lied on a Valve questionnaire about average gold/exp per minute to get into the beta.

Man, I wonder if I could find the replay of that game, I doubt it right? Probably nearly 2 years old at this point. Would love to see the dumb shit I was doing in that match. I'm pretty sure I won like my first 5 games though, with my team being good enough to have let me bumble through.

I think it was Phantom Lancer, because I was making a set for him for the pc contest. I had no idea how many people I was pissing off in those games since I didn't know what farming or a carry was, Lol. I feel the frustration now, mad feels bro.

Okay, seriously, what is the strategy to deal with Lifestealer? What is the strategy to deal with the hero who gets a free BKB and has higher then average base movement speed.

I want to say my first Dota 1 hero was Zeus, at least I remember playing him, thinking his ult was amazing. Not sure I remember playing anyone else in particular. I have a feeling o may have played Lone Druid and/or Furion though. Druid I still haven't played in Dota 2 yet.

Pretty sure Lina was my first pickup in Dota 2, but I'll always be able to check my match history to confirm, unlike the APEM days of Battle.net. That was way back in middle school I think. I definitely played at least 20 hours or so cumulative of Dota, but nothing close to the 400+ I now have clocked in Dota 2.

Also I imagine there are many buybacks included in that figure. Kind of have to when you are playing 2v5.

No, it was 2v2 :P

He got so many kills by porting up to our fountain and killing the guys who were at levels 1 and 2. Dagon was really dangerous at the time he had it, so I built Heart in response. But of course they had no late-game against a farmed Void.

How the hell does anyone manage the clusterfuck that is laning as Lone Druid?

I have never been successful playing him. I cannot get the micro down. How do people manage this?

Lone druid micro is easy, not like it's meepo or visage.

All you really have to learn is how to keep the bear in front of your hero, after that it's all gravy.

Top players pick heroes against him who have spells that go through immunity like Beastmaster, Enigma, Mag, Warlock and Bane ultis. Late game it's helpful to get stuff like Force Staff, Ghost Scepter, Eul's, HH, Guinsoo or Abyssal Blade. Skadi, Manta and Diffusal are great against him as well if you an agility ranged hero and you generally want high armor on your team to mitigate his damage. Anti-right clickers like Tusk and Enchantress not bad either because they slow down attack speed.

Early game though all you can really do is keep TPs on you when he's on your ass. Of course no one does any of this stuff including ganking him early so they get steamrolled by him.

You literally have to think your bear as another hero. When your enemy is near harass range, make him pay. Just keep practicing.

If he's a dumbass and goes into the jungle instead of laning, then every minute or so head into the jungle and kill the half-HP Lifestealer you find in there .

I see this a lot when watchign streamers like merlini. :D

Now that I have figured out how to join chat channels and in house games, I'll try and join a GAF in house sometime, if you guys like noobs :D

Hmmm I got $15 on steam from trades, do I buy the TA/PL set or wait for better sets... decisions, decisions.

Oh, noobs are our favorite >:]

He's basically two ranged heroes in one, and that's where his laning power comes from (and at level 5, entangle makes him a monster in lane). Just make one control group for the bear, one for the hero, and one for both. Or simply use tab + cntrl clicking (to control both). Keep your hero at a distance and simply sync up their last hits to secure every one (i.e. attack with both when the creep is at like 80-90 hp). Or if that's too difficult, simply last hit with the bear + a quelling blade. Put an orb of venom on the bear and every time your enemy makes a move to harass you, move your hero back and set the bear on them--free harass (if it's a melee, it's even easier, you just sick the bear on them every time they want to last hit, and can also harass with your hero). At level 5, if you get a lucky entangle from the bear, it's basically a guaranteed kill.

I've been tooling around with Nature's Prophet lately and I've been trying to decide on a good "first" item. I usually get a Midas as early as possible and then go into a Agahnims, but that's not a good item for ganking (more for even more farming).

Maybe a Desolator? What's a good item to get at that time? (after midas/treads usually)

the answer is often Orchid, Dagon, or Mek. Deso much later.

Played my first game as Wisp earlier, kinda fun.
Laned with a Troll Warlord that didnt get his Q ability until level 10...
We still won though, other team was pretty terrible.

Depends how the game is going. If your allies are holding up orchid/deso.
Seen a lot of people just go without boots if you can tp perfectly.

Scepter is hard to judge as that gold/damage is kind of unreliable when you could have a decent item for 4200.

Man, decided to repick the Alchemist I got in All Random and ended up getting fucking Meepo. Grr...

I am never rushing Maelstrom on Void again. They really should have a Meepoless version of All Random. He's kind of on a higher level of difficulty from everyone else.

Also, I submitted this to Fails of the Week. This happened in one of our earlier (Captain's Mode) matches. It's funny that we were actually scared of the draft, but had a bit of hope because they seemed to be picking right into the Rubick after we second picked him.

So a Faceless Void and Naga Siren walk into the secret shop...

Needless to say, they weren't happy.

The next match was even funnier, and has got to be the shortest match I have ever played. It was also CM, I was Magnus. I killed Death Prophet at mid three times before 5 minutes in. I did it just by harassing with Shockwaves and getting good Skewers under my tower (or just far away so I could attack her while she tried to run back). The Dazzle in this game was the Naga Siren in the previous game. After the third kill on DP, Nyx was at mid (still level 5) and said that DP was AFK, and the team pretty much called gg. They all left after the auto abandon happened, and the game was over at 11:38. I had a Blink Dagger in my stash, just needed the courier to bring it to me.

Just found this

I can feel the rage of that shadow demon

There was a time I used my last 40 mana to use Spiked Carapace in front of an Anti-Mage with full health and Mana Void up. He uses it on me, and I watch his health disentegrate from full to almost nothing, and my team kills him.
