Oh man, this guy is too cute!

Too bad the Dota community is going to violate you :(

Best tip I can give you is mute the fuck out of everyone, and start gaining confidence in yourself by playing matches and winning experience...
Good luck and I hope you dont feel burnt out with all the douchebags hanging around!
Sad but true. Over time this game has made me angrier and angrier, yet I still like playing it so much. The good thing is you can often get away with muting people because of the ability to ping etc...

Chen. HOW ABOUT SOME ASIAN HEROES?

Xin_zhao_Splash_0.jpg

LOL is that way...

Sniper only has two active skills as well though? Shrapnel for slowing dudes a bit and Assassinate for finishing off dudes with low health who are too far away for you to attack.

The only reason Drow is easier than Sniper is because you can orb walk with her at the start, but eventually Sniper's range is so large that it won't matter if you harass because you should be a fair ways from the creeps.

If you're freaking out about what to do in team fights, you just need to play more. I'm terrible at RTS games, but Dota isn't really one and it didn't take me too long to learn the basics. Read guides, watch videos and just keep practising. If you're still not very good, quit playin' carries and play some supports/nukers. Try out Death Prophet or something, she's a really easy hero.

Thanks for the reply and yeah I know that there doesn't seem to be much difficulty difference between Drow and Sniper though what freaks me out the most is that my team is relying on me to hit running heroes with my ultimate and this imaginary pressure makes me freak out, panic and mess up. And alright I guess I can't do much more than to play regularly with my friends like I do. I actually don't mind the training my friends just seem to subconsciously expect me to be as good as them from the get go which is ridiculous given that they know I was always overwhelmed every time I played a active strategy game in the past. I'm good at strategy games like Chess, Yggdra Union, Advance Wars and Heroes of Might and Magic because they are turn-based and I can take my time and actually think. When things get hectic in RTS games though I hear "HELP! I need somebody! HELP! Anybody... HEEEELP!" playing in my head xD And thanks I will try my luck with Death Prophet too :D

Relax...takes 100 hours of playing against real people to get into the groove of things more or less (notice how I didn't say get good). I have the worst reflexes in the world so don't worry about it...you'll adapt..Everyone at first gets overwhelmed (forget to use wand/items..can't juggle more than a couple of skills). It's all deceptively simple..

Thanks, that makes me a bit more confident thanks :) One thing I wish DOTA and LoL would have is the zoom and camera system out of Supreme Commander, I'm so used to just zoom-out and then zoom-in again that even after two weeks of practice playing with a actual mini-map is annoying but oh well :(

Ehehe thanks? I guess... well don't worry I think I can handle a few douchebags :P For example yesterday when I played with my friends again there was someone who did absolutely nothing worthwhile the first half of the match and then during the second half he started to boss everyone around over voice-chat. I was playing Sniper during this time and fired my ultimate at a fleeing hero in a team-fight, it didn't get him fully but yeah... about five seconds later while my ultimate was still in cooldown another hero ran which the guy promptly commented with "Sniper are you sleeping?" I was short of replying "Well excuse me that I have cooldowns good sir, and yes infact your playstyle during the first half did put me to sleep :P" But eventually I left it much like the saying "Don't feed the trolls!" I mean it's good that somebody takes control of the team and coordinates things but if you yell "WAIT FOR ME! PUSH MID MID MID MID!" only to idly stand at the bottom lane it's a wee bit ridiculous... So yeah muting might be a good thing yeah, thanks :)

And really with my aforementioned childhood friend I'm so used to a ton of douchebaggery as there are only a handful of games were I'm a match for him like Pro Evolution Soccer, Gran Turismo, Dead or Alive and various other sports games. Oh and I did manage to win the one or other Supreme Commander match against him too simply by using the one or other nonsensical unorthodox tactic that he couldn't comply with :P

I guess my main problem is that I treat human-players with a ton of respect differently than bots and this paralyzes me somewhat. Mind you that I never actually understood the appeal of competition in any game. I rather play with others and have a fun game with them than to go "MWHAHAHA I DEFEATED YOU!!!!!1!" but I guess I'm pretty much alone with that mentally :( Whenever I tell my friends this they usually go "But don't you want a challenge and thrill in life?!" Which I usually reply with "No thanks I like my life quietly and relaxed without much happening, just easygoing :P" Heck even in fighting games I usually play worse on purpose if I see that my opponent is struggling... Buut I guess I get a bit off-topic here...

Oh and is there any chance of a Lina Inverse skin for Lina? :( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecbTsBMeBy8

If you like dealing with overall strategy more, I'd suggest playing support. Since you don't have to worry so much about last hitting, it's all about getting your team setup more globally through your abilities (cc's/heals), babysitting your carry, providing vision (wards and mini map awareness since by nature you're able to look at the minimap more), and even bolstering your teammate's GPM through stacking neutral creeps etc...The thing about carry is that your priority is to farm as much as possible for as long as possible and generally avoiding the early action to farm.

People calling it a somberoro are just as dumb as those calling alpine ursa a cowboy suit...

His name is Raijan, like the shinto god of thunder (aka Raiden in the west, ever play mortal kombat?). He's wearing a straw hat, just like he was in wc3.

Anyway, I'm sure we'll get some more eastern-like heroes because of the Chinese fanbase (not to mention Chinese mythology is bad ass).

I've tried a slew of new heroes lately. Here are my impressions:

Venomancer — Set a new record for assists (35), his wards are useful throughout the game, and his Gale is an awesome slow. Extremely squishy, but that's life as a support. Thumbs up for Veno.

Tinker — While it was cool being able to teleport all over the map once I got my BoTs, I just couldn't get comfortable with his kit. It probably didn't help that my team got stomped, but I felt that I wasn't contributing much. I'll give him another shot down the line, but for now I give Tinker a thumbs down.

Naga Siren — Potentially fun, will have to play again to have a sure opinion. I was pretty mana-starved and underfarmed all game, and making effective use of her illusions was very attention-demanding. Like Lone Druid, probably best to play on the weekends when I'm not so tired from work. Undecided.

Kunkka — His cleave is so satisfying, especially during the laning phase where I was able to zone the fuck out of Slark. Landing Torrents/ults is hard but also satisfying. Overall had fun. Thumbs up for Kunkka.

Leshrac — His kit is pretty cool, but like Tinker I just couldn't get comfortable with it. He's a great pusher. I'll give him another shot, but for now I'll give him a thumbs down because I had much more fun with other heroes.

Weaver — So much fun. I love his kit; it's very satisfying when you know you're annoying the shit out of your enemies. Two thumbs up for Weaver.

Chaos Knight — A risky hero in that he's either a blast to play, or no fun at all. I had a blast in this game, but I got my soul crushed in this match. Still, he has a great kit and is such a badass that I have to give him a thumbs up. Will pick again.

Wisp — Fuck you, All Random. Two thumbs down.

Sniper and Drow Ranger — Both good for low level pubs (read: my level), but I found them kind of boring to play. Very straightforward heroes. I'll have to give them thumbs down because I'd rather play different carries.

Dragon Knight — Fun, tanky carry. His ult is bad ass. Thumbs up would pick again.

can't maintain a streak.. for every 3 wins I get 4 losses.

it's like I'm constantly at zero. well now my losses are higher. 86 wins 93 losses.
how do I get in the positive and manage to stay there?

do you guys even bother with your ratio? since we're in beta and all.?

Story of my DOTA experience- 3 straight wins/4 straight losses..I've given up getting to .500 at this point. When I decide to repick this game up hardcore, I'll try again..

I'm envious of those of you that have experienced 10 game win streaks...Longest for me was 7 and that was in the beginning when I played nothing but Lich..

People care more about Win-Loss than they should. Unless you're uber pro you're going to, eventually, hover around 50%.

Just keep playing, as long as you're getting better you'll eventually hit 50%.
