Dota 2 Beta Thread 4: Even Mike Ross Plays [Elder Titan]

Been experimenting with heroes that are usually underplayed. Razer was my first dota 2 hero and is still one of my favorite laners. Get soul ring with him and just destroy your lane. Solo? Risky but can be even more effective with more levels in your nuke.

Also played a carry visage with Mjolnir. It was a bot match but still dominated, would like to see its success in a human match. He is an amazing mid, first blood and drove drow out of the lane several times. Can gank very easily even before level 6. His slow is freakin great.

Would like to try Treant next.

I'm in the same boat. I've been playing a bunch of co-op games against the AI, kinda helps to get into the swing of things.

I reinstalled lol, to play with some friends. and man o man. after 3 months of just playing dota. yes there are similarities in the community. but the poison that lol players can fill you with a murderous intent a lot faster than dota players.

I played last night granted things looks a lot different, but even every 1 is level 30.every 1 is playing like they just picked up the game.

-no vision on river let's cross it.
-4guys mid.. ima be goku and take them on.
-and of course token Rager hanging out in base.

I use to take lol pretty seriously but after going back and playing it, dota really put things into perspective. Now if only I could be less serious about dota when I play it.

You know it's not even the community that bugs me most about LoL, it's the fact that I can't even use my IP to buy champions since I need to save it to buy a shit ton of runes. It's just so frustrating that there's this inherent time sink built into the game before you can be fully competitive.

On the other hand, with Dota 2 I have to learn all the heroes from scratch, whereas I more or less know most of the LoL champions since I've been playing it for a while.

Decisions, decisions. So far in my experience the Dota 2 community has been better though.

I have NO IDEA how he plays anymore.

He was completely broken OP before his remake though, he was ripped out of CM after a while for being so impossibly strong at timing pushes.

Ah nice a wild card. I have a feeling he may be used in organized play but probably not so much in pubs.

Wow ok so they replaced his corpse expulsion spell with an aura. His corpse spell was situational and just made him use up a spell that he usually didn't have mana for between his first two spells. When that spell hit big though it really hit big and was OP at times (but I see that they nerfed it before they replaced it). His team presence is absurd now, the damage reduction aura is no joke.

I thought the damage aura was pretty crazy as well but if its base damage it really isn't that great. Playdota doesn't clarify, I'm assuming its the same as VS's aura just opposite effect.

Is there a melee hero Ursa is bad against?

Assuming not farmed: troll, brew master, omniknight, bristlebog, lycan (possibly), I guess I'll throw in naga as well, the net can really screw you over, not that she can easily kill you.

End game 40 minute items: faceless void, phantom lancer, chaos knight, sven, troll, bristlebog, lycan, alchemist.

edit: I like that moth. It fits the moon princess theme well and I think it looks well done (even though I'm not a big fan of moths, thanks Resident Evil).

Yeah, I think he could see quite a bit of play. The strength of a Wisp teleport but can be used for your entire team? Sounds really tempting. His Firestorm looks amazing for clearing waves (420 on a 14 second cooldown and not including the burn damage since I'm not sure how it works) and an AoE disable that pierces magic immunity.

And even that negative damage aura could be amazing on its own.

definitely a +1 for dota.

In Dota 2 you grind to get better at the game, not to get runes. I suppose you could grind cosmetics but you certainly don't need to.

Riot had a good idea making players need to grind out runes like an MMO. It's addicting and keeps people playing and paying for microtransactions. But you don't need to ask me twice if it makes for a better game.

25 minute game. Sniper on my team went 34/1/5

Spent the last 5 minutes or so just trolling them by fountain killing them with Pudge, while i tried to take the rax and end it. GG for me, but i would have been so pissed if i was on the other end

Just had such a weird game. Started out ok, had Luna mid that actually went ganking(almost unheard of at the level I play at) and quite successfully so. The guy then proceeded to get a shadow blade and trolled the fuck out of the enemy team for 30 minutes straight, hitting them once, occasionally killing someone but otherwise not accomplishing anything of value for our team. We proceeded to win(in no small part due to him getting a rapier and annihilating them) but it took us at least 20 minutes longer than it had to and was boring as fuck for the rest of the team. The mind boggling thing is, no one on the other team ever thought of buying detection. I couldn't believe it, they were actually competent in other regards, lots of well timed disables, good CS in lane.

What are some good tournaments/matches I should check out? I like having LoL/Dota 2 matches playing on the side while I'm getting work done.

Joindota.com, there is literally a match ticker on the right side of the Web page. They have a lot of vods too. Twitch.tv/onemoregametv2 is also really good and has great vods and casters.

oh you said games? Check out g league for God tier play

As the wise man Pureauthor once said: "It's not that you're good, it's that your opponents are somehow ever worse."

I played as Veno and laned with a Viper who bought boots + salve as his starting items. I didn't say anything, because whatever, I figured he was from LoL or something and he'd eventually learn that was a bad idea. We went bot and were up against Lion & Broodmother, which was a bit of a pain. But despite having a rough start with some failed gank attempts that got Spectre and I killed a few times, Viper was able to stay alive and keep his farm up. By the mid game, I was laying down constant sentry wards which completely shut Riki and Broodmother down, and led to Viper getting consecutive double and triple kills. Dude ended the match 23-1.

Veno's passive + Gale combined with Viper's orb and ult is so hilarious. Slows and DoTs galore. Once we went on the offensive nobody could escape from us.

Thanks, didn't know they had a match ticker, that's handy. Never heard of G League either, thanks for the recommendation.

MLG is today, watch gambit stomp dig for fun times

Ooh this is on right now, thanks for the tip.

So I was reading the thread from a few pages ago, and I read that Pit Lord was going to get a new name. I guess it's cool but... anyone knows when are they going to release him :<!!?

Your guess is as good as ours. Probably not for a while though, barely any strings or files in the schema for him right now I believe.

Next time your team is getting face rolled and people are saying hurry end plz, remember that game. And say nothing. lol

are they planing of implementing a "forfeit" option? because I hate getting bodied and wait another 15min while the opposition is fountain farming kills.

This really needs to be a feature. Make it so at least 4 members of the team agree. 3 at least. Can also make it only show up after a certain threshold of deaths/tower breaks.

Knowing the game is over but wasting another 20+ minutes sucks.
