Dota 2 Beta Thread 4: Even Mike Ross Plays [Elder Titan]

Well I just had the worst match ever. Game was glitching on me like crazy. Item icons on the screen, could not move items in inventory. Right click wasn't working right. After a while I couldn't even buy items.

One guy was pretty angry and thought I was some kind of troll. *sigh*

This happens a couple of times a month for me too. Just restard DOTA2 and it'll fix itself.

Speaking of Spirit Breaker, is there anything you can do to dodge/cancel the charge after he's already set on you? Besides him backing off.

If you position yourself properly sometimes he will end up stuck in the trees after he hits you with his charge and will be stuck there if you can get out of vision fast enough so he cannot ult you.

Beating KotL+PL pickers is even more satisfying than beating the Lycan pickers in the days of yore.

I understood that reference.
Ashe right?

She should also get a spammable cone shot instead of her global aura.

Armlet doesn't drain health on bear? the fuck? I'll have to give it a whirl sometime. Combines one of my favorite carries and my favorite item.

I get the idea of trying to simultaneously valance CM and Pubs, but he never even gave Drow a chance in CM before spaying her.

You like the idea but it doesnt work unless you make everything super homogeneous. Always balance for the top. Drow is just one of many pubstompers.

Guys just make Trent protectors ult apply back door protection to all towers for 3/4/5 seconds as his ult! Super balanced!
:(

Was playing Meepo and a silencer last worded me, the effect went on ALL my Meepo's. What bullshit is this. I had 4 Meepo's with above 50% health, and 1 Meepo was like 50hp. So I died, this must be a bug.

I never thought Drow was broken. Shes like tissue paper.

I do think that Lifestealer, Anti-Mage and PL are broken.

Not because I think they are too strong, but they are very difficult to gank/keep down. You need a specific team comp to stop them from farming, and even then they can still get away.

The issue with treant is that people play him too defensively. He makes one of the better offensive trilane semi-carries in the game, because he keeps everyone in the lane up on HP(which allows the supports to play more aggressively) with leech seed and armor while having the base damage to get contested last hits relatively easily. Rubick KotL Treant trilane would be devastating IMO. I also want to see a treant with troll warlord.

You just need to have a safe lane carry who can take care of himself 1v1 early and a mid who does good dps late game.

Nature's Guise is pretty terrible though, wouldn't mind if that was reworked.

Random poll: Do any of you guys regularly buy keys? How do you get a good collection. Just playing and hoping for drops?

I got most of my stuff from diretide. The drop rates were absurd during that, I'm not sure if they'll do the same thing this year. The greeviling kind of sucked for drops, atleast in my experience (was also way less fun).

FFS, just lost a game when their ancient was at 85HP because our kunkka decided to walk back from their ancient to ours, just to heal.

I unboxed an unhealthy amount of stuff. So yeah, I regularly buy my items. It's nice having items with strange counters on them.

What can you build on DS during the mid to late game?

I've been having a lot of fun as him again these days. I jungle until I get soul, tranq and shivas which usually happens around the 18 minute mark or so. It is kinda sloppy, Jungling is still one of those things I really need to work on.

Anyway, After that there's aghanims and .... ? I've seen heart suggested on him and i've built that last a number of times. After that though i'm lost as to what I should actually try and go for next.

sheepstick is probably the best int item in the game.

Refresher after that.

I'd get meka/pipe before shivas, and sheep, as said, is an amazing item, and in some cases getting blink is really useful too.

  • Tranquil Boots disabled speed reduced from 50 to 25
  • Tranquil Boots heal increased from 170 to 250
  • Tranquil Boots cooldown increased from 40 to 60
  • Tranquil Boots heal duration increased from 10 to 20
Still excellent support boots (in fact, probably better roaming support boots given the heal increase), but obviously much less ubiquitous everyman boots. Don't see any problemas here.

  • Illuminate manacost increased from 150 to 150/160/170/180
  • Illuminate AOE reduced from 400 to 350
Don't think anyone was really surprised by this, honestly long overdue with the sheer sustain of his Chakra. Probably will spend more points on Chakra and Mana Leak as a result, though I tended to max Chakra first regardless.

  • Spiked Carapace duration reduced from 2.75 to 2.25
  • Spiked Carapace cooldown increased from 14 to 23/20/17/14
Also not much of a surprise in the slightest, will make smart usage of the skill more critical in the early stages of the game, and slightly more critical later on. Doubtful the hero disappears anytime soon.

  • Marksmanship bonus is removed when there are nearby enemy heroes (instead of just being halved)
  • Reduced Marksmanship enemy detection aoe reduced from 400 to 375
On balance, I think this Drow is unquestionably weaker than the previous patch, but still quite a bit stronger than she was with flat Marksmanship. Drafts with significant gap-closing heroes in the early game are her kryptonite (Tiny, Centaur, Sand King, Puck, QoP, etc). Obligatory Shadow Blade might prove enough in fights, but ideally it'd be used to dip out and back in within seconds with an aggressive SB hit and silence, followed by more DPS. That's something your average pub-stomper is going to struggle with, but in competitive I can see it being workable. I like to get a lot of points in stats, but with this rework I think I'll have to put a lot more into Frost Arrows to compensate for not being able to afford to let enemy heroes into that zone at all. Given how drastic that falloff is at 375, maxing arrows by 7 might be the safest possible build (with a point or two into silence before 6).

  • Heaven’s Halberd's Disarm is no longer dispelled by Manta
Definitely warranted, though I think surprise is still a needed factor when building this, lest the enemy carry build a BKB and spoil your timing window.

  • Living Armor damage reduction is now done for all instances of damage that reduce its charges
Thought it was like this to start with, definitely warranted for the poor tree. Will this also reduce damage on towers for things like Edict or Nether Blast? Would really enhance his defensive aspects early if so.

I've never really build meka/pipe on DS. I know that kinda goes against everything, But I have a new love for shivas lately. Vacuum into wall into shivas just seems to melt people in the mid game and when you pull that off, it just seems easy to win from then on.

I totally forgot about refresher, No idea why either!

More builds to mess around with I guess.

That PL died far too much.

And I've come to the conclusion that Radiance is far from an ideal item on him. You don't need it to push out lanes like a bear would - your illusions sustain themselves. So it's a waste of cash when you could have a that much faster heart or what have you.

My build is typically Tranquils, possibly Soul Ring (not necessary if you have a KotL or if you're not being harassed). Early QB from the side shop, often a bracer, into drums if no one else builds one. First big item is Diffusal, typically followed by Yasha. Now at this point you have a lot of mid-game fighting power if you need to come in to assist team fights. Depends on how the game is going at that point whether I finish the Manta first, or go straight heart before returning to complete a Manta, but anything after that is complete luxury. You upgrade the Diffusal of course whenever you manage to run out of charges. The slow from the purge is invaluable.

wat about shadowblade instead of drums?

Lothar's good on everyone so why not?

My serious answer is that I like the little extra bit of tankability that bracer -> drums gives you. I suppose if you went an early Vit Booster that would also work since you're gonna build heart on him eventually anyway. Shadow Blade could be nice for the extra attack speed (more illusions faster!), as well as for initiation and a second escape. Having that and dopplewalk would certainly fuck with people. I'll have to give it a whirl next time I play him.
