DoubleFine's Amnesia Fortnight prototyping event for public viewing, voting & playing

No, no, no. You can't be inspired Ray Harryhausen and not have the stilted animations. If they were to drop that, I would lose all interest. Brad specifically mentions about how he was inspired by Clash fo the Titans, Sinbad and the Eyes of the Tiger, etc. He said on GB also that it was actually harder to animate them like that, but yeah... It HAS to have that. It is the most striking thing about the game.

Don't get me wrong, I hope it does keep that style of animation. I think it looks awesome and I cannot wait to see them make some Troglodytes etc. :D

They need Skeletons popping out of the ground or I don't buy it.

The concept itself is disappointing...
Monster Hunter ist a great concept and we haven't seen enough studios tackling the formula. There's enough off-the-wall creativity in other DF projects, so Muir's "safer" alternatives can also have a place.

I think I am going to contribute just because I love the look and sound of Brazen. Really want to keep an eye on it and see how it goes.

Greg gave a tour of the studio earlier by streaming a stream from his mobile phone, they're making some good progress! The little screencasts they're doing from people's computers are neat. Bagel (artist on DFA) did one from New York where he was drawing the Spacebase characters. Greg also really loves playing the Happy Song prototype.

Where's the next 2PP video at? Isn't there supposed to be one every day? The first one was excellent. I need more!

The next one will be out Monday morning. 2PP has been working their butts off on these! I've been in the office both yesterday and today, and all three of those guys were already here when I got in and were still here when I left.

The episode 2 of the videos is up.

This one is nice, its getting very interesting.

I would be a good idea if they make a test or something like that so the players can provide feedback after playing the prototypes... and after that release that stats, to close the loop in a way.

Greg Rice is doing a superb job at MC'ing the development live stream. Sometimes sitting in on a team member's desktop isn't a mile a minute, but it's fascinating to see the work process laid bare for people with so many different disciplines.

And releasing a hi-res desktop of an art asset that was just barely finished minutes before? Amazing community interaction and something you'd never get from a 'big' publisher or developer.

I only see a Vimeo stream for the newest episode on the Humble page. Is that going to be the case going forward? I'm downloading Day One, but I'd prefer to stream going forward.

You can download and stream all of them on your own personal Amnesia Fortnight download page. Go to the bottom of your Humble Bundle account page for a link to that.

Thanks! I'll put a new track up tomorrow.

Finally pitched in after seeing the 2 episodes of the daily documentary on the live stream today, super fascinating stuff. I also love the prototypes of Costume Quest and Happy Song, so cool to be able to play those. Can't wait to play the prototypes from this AF!

Our own personal Amnesia Fortnight download pages only have Episode 2 available to stream. There are download links for all three though.

I see the download links, but I only see the Vimeo stream for "Day Two", and checking 2PlayerProduction's Vimeo channel doesn't turn up anything. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2960111/Images/WillScroll4Stream.jpg. I've been scrolling all over the place for a while, and am probably just missing something obvious.

Thanks! I'll put a new track up tomorrow.
Sweet. Looking forward to it!

Brazen isn't a part of this, right? What do I do to get Brazen made?

All you get is the prototype and it has nothing else to do with this. To get it made, I guess just bug Double Fine about how bad you want to see it. With as much attention as it's been getting and with how many people seem to enjoy it it may very well happen.

Day 3 video is amazing. I'm surprised how focused and specific things are already getting. This is such a strange and wonderful event to expose to the public like this.

I didn't realize you'd only be able to stream the most current one. Planned to start watching some episodes I missed, while I ate a meal, turns out I have a 45 minute wait for a single episode.

Edit: Weird, I've twice Episode 2 twice, to the result of the same low speed. Decided to grab 3 along with it, and that's downloading several times faster. Maybe it's a "preferred server" thing for more recent content.

You still can stream it.

Copy the url of the video you want, and open it with a media player like VLC. It works.

That's pretty much just downloading it, isn't it? Might as well grab the full thing by that point.

Episode 3 finished a while ago, still waiting on the last 15% of Episode 2.

Day 4 is up and completely brilliant, too. At the same time, it's cool to look at the non-edited stuff from today and see snippets of how far along things have come. I almost don't want to spoil myself, though, given how well-made the daily updates are. Still, Autonomous is looking goooooood.

Chris Remo, dare I ask whether the 2PP daily videos could end up on the Reds documentary Blu-ray?

They definitely won't. These are totally unrelated projects. Plus, the 2PP guys are going to have enough space issues on those discs already!

I figured as much, and I wish them luck. It has to be nice to have your own quasi-in-house professional video recording squad, though.

It'll be weird when they're gone! It's easy for us to forget that they're a totally separate company and they work on other stuff too.

No? I think that is exactly the same as watching it on the web player, you don't have to wait for it to get downloaded, its streaming.

Seems like beat the average for Brazen is now 4 copies instead of 1?

Anyone has a spare? /ashamedbeggar

On another note. Haven't had time to update the OP in a while, there's not too much to update either anyway. people can find the recordings on twitch. And it doesn't seem that too many people on GAF are following the process anyway.

Amazing how much progress has been made in 5 short days, super impressive.

I wasn't really interested in Autonomous when it was first pitched, but seeing how its come along has made it my new most anticipated prototype next to Spacebase.

I lost interest when most of my choices didn't make the cut. I assume it's the same for a many others around here.

Well I am interested in the process itself regardless of the game, so that helps. But I've been absolutely surprised by ideas that were not my favourites, I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case for some others. Some pitches might not grab you at first, but they might impress you with their execution.

edit: reading "Mr. F" post better, he mentions just the same thing.

Maybe a lot of people follow (Like me) and just think posting OMG x y z is so awesome! everyday would be a bit of a waste =P

As it is I think Black Lake seems a bit like The Path. White Birch looks interesting but kind of like Black Lake, to me they are quite similiar. Hack N Slash seems like a nice little project but I don't think its mainstream enough, possibly iOS/Android. Autonomous looks cool though I don't like the darkness of the world (But its early on). Spacebase is shaping up to be fantastic and I hope it gets fully made after the Fortnight is over, would be a massively interesting game seeing all these little interactions going on in this little sim where you basically play god.

I am so impressed how far along everything is in only a few days and the 2PP videos are just so so so awesome!!!

Exactly, but I also have to say that 2 of the games I voted for made it. And just like you said I got surprised by another game. I now think that Autonomous looks pretty neat. Still not convinced by The White Birch or Black Lake.

I appreciate the motivation and the feel they're striving for with White Birch, but it doesn't look particularly engaging so far from a gameplay perspective. Granted this is all based on very limited impressions from the daily wrap up videos, but the 'do this or fall' mechanic doesn't look that...fun?

The atmosphere is shaping up nicely though, I really dug the episode focused on music and sound design a couple days ago.

I've been downloading the daily videos and am really enjoying following those, it's been really interesting seeing the inside processes of making these. I've found myself being more interested in Black Lake since watching the development, and although I'm still not that interested in Autonomous as a game idea, it's interesting to see them working on it. It'll be strange getting the prototypes and playing through them, having seen all about how the sausage is made. Hope there's still lots of fun to be had.

Was slightly disappointed that The White Birch seemed to be turning into a fairly generic puzzle platformer (lots of talk of dying if jumping the wrong way or at the wrong time) when the pitch made it seem more interesting than that, but the talk of Shadow of the Colossus and the team lead's vision still has me hoping that it'll turn out good. That was fairly early on in the process so I'm sure it'll get refined.

Just realised that Mr F said the same thing about WB. Also I love the art style of the citizens in Spacebase. Nathan Stapley's art is so good. Wish he'd designed Hack & Slash too!

WB will be more like Ico and SotC then Black Lake. Mr F said he would focus more on making a good small game (because he dont think it will be ever more like that) that you can play over and over again instead of making just a demo of a game that could be huge. And that is by far the most interesting aspect.

I didnt watched the daily videos yet but i will do it in a few minutes.

I understand that they're only doing a small replayable section, I was talking more about the gameplay aspects than the size. I was agreeing with Mr F saying that the "do this or fall" mechanic isn't what I expected from the pitch. Having said that, if it's something like Limbo, which is very much a "do this or fall/die" kind of game, but with a bit more subtlety to the puzzles and more integration with the environment, that wouldn't be a bad thing either. There's a point in the videos where one of the designers suggests a puzzle where you jump from pole to pole, trying to find the correct route through, that isn't really what sort of puzzle I was expecting.

I'm still surprised that Hack & Slash was the highest voted. Out of all the projects, it's the one I still have no interest in. I was cool on Black Lake, but it's progressing into something I'd like to try.
