Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen PS4/XB1 |OT| They're master ports all, you can't go wrong

A few hours in I am still kinda lost and figuring things out.

I love the gameplay though.I started as a strider and my main pawn is a mage.I feel like I shouldn't hire a secondary mage pawn. They keep buffing my daggers together lol.

Just got to a dungeon with a Cyclops and I thought a roll/dodge button would be useful I wish there was one.

I think one of the Yellow vocations actually has a dodge roll as an unlockables skill.

Like you said, two mages aren't good together. Two (or more) Sorcerers on the other hand is fantastic.

I enjoyed that story more than Dragon's Dogma, and I fucking hated that story. I've heard from some one GAF that the story here kind of redeems itself, but I've also talked to a few people that refute that claim.

I'm currently trying to power through the early portions to see who's right, but the story is so bad, on top of the atrocious voice acting, that it's a chore to play.

Well, I'd say that if story is the main thing you need to motivate you to play, then going through 85% mediocre to bad writing with a few moments of decency just for what is a pretty polarizing 15% probably isn't worth it.

With that said, I do find the story of bitterblack isle and what I felt was a shift to focus on visual storytelling rather than exposition through conversation by uninspired VA's to be good enough to stand out on its own.

Im off to the witchwoods.

And while many have advised against doing notice board quest, i always find it to be a nice and easy way of getting money.

Doing the first part of BBI paid off. Found the running scroll which allows nearly endless sprinting. It's going to make the regular game so much more pleasant.

Notice board quests as in escort missions are advised against.

Where at? I will run through later on in the day.

Wouldn't recommend going to BBI for newcomers btw, everything there is so OP it will make running through the story even easier than what it is.

Ignoring notice boards is a bad advise IMO. Some of them are "kill X enemies" that you can do while exploring around, so basically free money. The escorts quests though, those are not that worth it.

Level 5 Strides gives you a roll, and a very good one too (it was shit in the original release but got changed in Dark Arisen). A must , should be standard in all vocations if you ask me.

2 questions.

Climbing big monsters is amazing, but can I learn some other attacks later for when I hang on someone or do I only have the normal attack on the square button?

When I level Fighter now and switch later to another class, what do I have from all the time in that I skilled the Fighter? Will this all be lost or can I carry some attacks over or do I need to level some classes to unlock stuff or is it just lost time when I level a class now but could already switch to another one? I still don't know if its worth to continue to play with Fighter or better use another one.
Hope you know what I mean, my english is awful today.

Yes there are other skills when climbing and pressing square that certain classes can unlock.
No, you wont loose some skills when you switch to a different class.

Actually you get to keep certain Augments.

So yesterday I went to my first dungeon I guess.. I played until I was fighting the tentacle things coming out the ground.. was I suppose to be fighting them? They were kinda strong. Then again I only have 2 pawns with me when I think I could have 3?

You're supposed to run. And yes, you can have 3 pawns.

Not suppose to fight the tentacles, they keep spawning. Gotta run back to the entrance.

People: stop worrying about stat growth.

It's literally meaningless. Gear matters far, far more. With good dragonforged gear and Periapt buffing items, you can be extremely powerful and not worry about damage output, even on Hard Mode.

Experiment with vocations. Stick with one you like, or change constantly to unlock augments and experiment with weapons, or whatever. Play how you like, but don't worry about the stat growth because min-maxing is a total waste of time and I guarantee you that the game will not be as fun, especially for a first playthrough.

Was killing some time waiting for the dad to spawn for "Land of Opportunity", managed to get a good pic of my pawn for now:

Looking great!
Bonus points for not having a scantily clad red-haired female mage, you guys are cool

I wouldn't call them 'inconsequential' per se considering they're needed for the trophies and a rather convenient way to manage the affection system for the ending.
Trophies are inherently inconsequential, and the affinity system can be completely bypassed with the Arison's Bond. So yes, Escort Quest are largely inconsequential. Do them if you want/enjoy them but they are pretty much the definition of filler.

Should i play this game and should i make my pawns the cast of the hit tv sitcom seinfeld?
....Yes

Does anyone have server connection issues? I can rent pawns easily, but wen i rest at inns it simply won't connect. I also lost around 15 k of Rc due to this issue.

Sorry Dragon's Dogma gaf if my pawn is not up to snuff :/

I wish I knew escort missions were pointless before I did every single one of them up to my point. Worst quests of all time.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but-

I would definitely recommend NOT using the infinite teleport stone until after the endgame.

The game was designed around the risk-reward of starting a journey in the morning and getting back to safety by night. It is one of the few RPGs that have this sort of system, and it is really fun to play. Do you push just a bit further and try to get back while it's dark? Night time is terrifying.

The infinite teleport object completely ruins this aspect, which IMO was one of the best parts of Dragon's Dogma.

Playing on Xbox One. Having issues by the river north west of Gran Soren. I was walking on one side of the river and the game crashed a couple of times. Tried to walk the other side and the trees near the beach look all blurry (very different to the trees everywhere else) and if I pause the game to check the map it freezes. Anyone else having issues there or no?

How do I change vocations??

And is there a way to tell Story quest from side quest?

You have to reach Gran Soren, the capital of Gransys. You go there normally during the quest where you escort the hydra head that you sever in the encampment near Cassardis. Not sure if you can go there early. I don't remember. Anyway, there's an innkeeper guy there who will let you switch vocations, and present you with six additional vocation options: Warrior, Ranger, Sorcerer, Mystic Knight, Magick Archer, and Assassin

Cool thanks. Also I'm having so much hell finding a vendor lol.
Is there some indication who a vendor is or where on map?

There should be at least one in every major settlement, plus some wandering the roads. I feel like there are markers to indicate the ones in settlements, if you look at the local map. Would have to double check though.

Just a reminder to all to rent my pawn out. I need RC and beast knowledge. Please drag her around.

I'll give it a look when I get home since I'm on Xbox as well.

I can change vocations now and have no idea what to pick. I'm a fighter at the moment which is fine but I kinda wanna be OP and maximise fun.

Any tips?

Ta :) I've got your pawn with me at the mo' :p

If it's an issue for other people too then I hope it's patched soon. If it's just an issue for me i'll have to try redownloading.

Blurry trees and map freezes were on the side of the river closest to Gran Soren. Regular crashes were on the other side. Both were I think about halfway along :) (Can't check because of the map crashing...)

My girlfriend asked me to put an update that her pawn is now in the 40s, dressed scantily
(as a dude), and still loves adventure.

PSN ID: Agacerie
Pawn name: Sofiane
Pawn vocation: Ranger, Rank 7
Pawn level: 43

She tries to take out the pawns of people who friend her, so feel free to add and she'll add you back.

I forgot how addicting this game can be. I love playing with new pawns and leveling up my gear and learning new abilities. It’s fun to just explore.

Actually just took him for a spin right before reading this. We killed 2 elder ogres (100,000+ exp) so hopefully that translates into some good rift crystal income.

I like the new design, with his shirt off he reminds me a little of Link during that sumo wrestling mini-game in Twilight Princess.

I always just upgrade to the highest level if I can, so I think it doesn't matter? At least I hope it doesn't.

100% agree.
Hell, I didn't use a normal ferrystone until I'd reached the
Greatwall Encampment
towards the end of the game. And even then, I just used it to get between there and Gran Soren, so I could fight the strong enemy there, then swap vocations.

If you rented pawns that already done the quest they would have told you to run.

Which is why i love this game.

Maybe just a quick update:

PSN ID:
Pawn name: Gwen
Pawn level: 19
Pawn vocation: Mage (redhead, i know...)

will summon gaf pawns as much as i can

Besides the OP ps3 to ps4 changes are there any others changes not mentioned?

Infliction is no longer bugged
I see an option to disable the pawn chatter :D

what else?

I don't think the little witch escort mission or Quina escort missions are useless,
I think they open up other story branches...I'm almost sure of it.

I could be wrong?

Heh, I disabled the Pawn chatter during the tutorial when I started getting a cacophony of "helpful" hints. I'll take my chances, Pawns. Hope I don't regret it...

So I've come across two totally OP bandits when traveling to Witchwood (after Quina). They kill me and the pawns in two hits and I can barely inflict a scratch on them. Took me like 20 minutes just to take one out and that was after being extremely cautious. Are they supposed to be there?

Yes and i advise you to what i did(after asking the same thing a few pages back).

Run and ignore the bandits.

I love the chatter personally, even if some lines get used too much.

Love the cinematic cam too. "NOW ARISON!"

I've completed the quest already but I was just wondering if that was intended (not supposed to be there yet) or a bug or something. So far I can't exactly tell if I'm under-leveled or over-leveled for certain quests yet. The lizard monsters in the well quest took me some time too.. I was at level 9 at the time.
