Dragon Age: Inquisition | E3 2014 Coverage

Have Biowere ever said when the plan to open Dragon Keep to everyone?

Before Oct 7th. I suspect maybe a month before so they have time to address any major issues that may pop up, but they've been pretty tight lipped about it since the initial announcement for it it.

Leliana is in the tavern in Lothering, the first town where you meet Sten, you can't miss her if you enter the tavern since it automatically triggers a cutscene involving her, but you don't have to go to the tavern and you don't have to recruit her if you do go in. As long as Lothering is still there you should be able to return and recruit her. She's pretty decent companion.

Lothering gets nuked pretty quickly once you progress a few story missions past that point...it might be too late.

Yeah I just finished the game last week. Oh well. Hope I didn't miss too much awesomeness.

It still bothers me how polygon starved this game is. I hope the PC version has an option for higher quality models or tesselation. Damn last gen consoles.

Ehh, we knew it was coming at least. Seeing how well current gen consoles are selling is a nice consolation prize - we'll be free from last gen constraints sooner than expected.

If games announced from this moment forward are confirmed to be cross-gen, then that's definitely worth getting vocal about. But games that began development long before current gen consoles were released were always expected to go this route.

If Bethesda announce Fallout 4 is cross-gen and launching Fall 2015, there will be rioting.

At this point I'm not surprised they chose this as canon. And apparently a possible Morrigan baby is not canon which is a shame. But it's canon in my game

The whole Leliana thing is a product of not knowing if they would do a sequel or not, or how they would do it. Both DA and ME suffered a lot due to the uncertainty of there being any sequels and so they didn't plan out everything in advanced, leading to some needed unfortunate but necessary retconing and glossing over some player choices. It's unfortunate but people need to stop acting like it's some huge betrayal and focus on the bigger issues. By all means bring it back up if they do something similar in the future since they should know better by now and prepare ahead of time, but this is just a growing pain of this kind of continuing world through multiple games.

As for Morrigan and her Old God Baby, they've heavily hinted at it being addressed in DAI. As well the writers have stated that things of that nature have to be done correctly or not all, since just using a cameo or explaining it away will only piss of the people who actually care about it and will mean nothing to those who don't have the save state for it.

Huh how Morrigan baby can not be canon? I mean in DA:O she has a baby even if you don't sleep with her.

I'm sure that happens, if it does it may be a bug in the end game slides. If not though and she still has a baby no matter what the important fact is that if any of the wardens died taking down the Arch Demon then her baby won't have the soul of an Old God in it which was the whole point and would be the central issue of a quest involving them in DAI.

Wait they are really backing away from the"baby" storyline? It seems like a huge deal with the DA:O and Awakening/Witch Hunt storyline. Oh well hope the explanation will make sense.

Oh ok makes sense I guess. Still I wonder how important the Warden will really be in DA:I and if will we be able to customize his looks in Dragon Age Keep.

Edit:
Ok so I've read on twitter that DAO canon goes like this: Dalish Elf, warden dead, Alistair king. So I guess Warden will just be small cameo. I just hope that my Warden romance with Morrigan will be presented in some way. It was a big part of the original DA:O experience for me.

Not likely. They've stated that character appearances won't be tracked in the DA Keep, so the chances of some CC being incorporated is pretty much nil. I really don't know how they would introduce the Warden or Hawke in DAI without having us use the ingame CC to make them, that or put the old full helmet to cover their faces trick. The Warden though doesn't need to be present for the Baby plotline though, especially since the child could just as easily be Alistair's or Loghain's. But even then the player will understand the situation without the Warden present, which would likely only complicate things.

You missed nothing. She's an okay party member but nothing memorable.

I wonder what is the point of bringing the Warden back if they aren't going to allow players some sort of control over them. I don't want to see them back if all they are going to do is have a short cameo of them likely in full armor. There are a lot of different ways to play the Warden so giving them a voice will be a huge issue too. I like to believe that my Warden managed to escape her duties as a Grey Warden and is somewhere running around being an apostate. This kind of ruins that.

Has the look of the game on PC been posted? All I see are these images and videos with the console interface. really couldn't care less about the console version beyond the negative effect it could have on the PC version

Well there is no guarantee the Warden will return. The only thing that's been seriously hinted at is Morrigan's baby. I'm more inclined to believe that the Warden and Hawke won't be in DAI because of all the potential issues in their presentation and implementation since they've stated they won't just pull a cheap cameo for those kind of things.

Well so far everything we've seen has been running on PC. Even the E3 stuff was on PC, but the controls and interface were for consoles. Other than though we haven't seen even a hint of the PC interface and UI.

That coud suggest the PC interface will look the same, but the XYAB options from the controller would be replaced by 1234 or w/e. Wouldnt be a big problem IMO since the tactical combat seems in place. The issue is balancing. If the difficulty remains the same between hack and slashing and playing more tactically, it's going to be less impressive a game. Essentially, if you don't HAVE TO pause and think about your next moves and how to win, it would really be a different kind of game. Could still be fun

well, maybe raising the difficulty in settings might solve a situation like that.

So, what is Dragon Keep ?
Is it like Mass Effect on PS3 where you can just make the decisions from the first two games in a comic?

So, what is Dragon Keep ?

http://blog.bioware.com/2013/08/28/the-dragon-age-keep/

Within the Keep, you’ll be able to customize a Dragon Age historical world state to your exact specifications. How did you modify your Warden and Hawke? Who were your companions? Who did you choose to romance? Who rose to power, and who fell in defeat? What legacy did you leave?

Within the Keep, you’ll be able to customize as much or as little about the world of Thedas as you wish. Then you’ll be able to import your saved world state into DAI at the start of a new game. Have you lost or corrupted your save files? No problem — remake your world state on the Keep, and preserve it for the future. For those folks new to the Dragon Age franchise, the Keep will serve as a great way to understand the people, places, and events that shaped the world leading up to DAI.

Only beta folks know specifics. There's supposed to be somewhere around 300 decisions to make.

"Lots"™ of choices. Mark mentioned in an interview that there are over 300 so far, which is accurate, and we continue to add more at the request of the beta users so far. Obviously (I think), not everything will be reflected in DAI. The purpose of Keep is to capture your world as faithfully as we can for future use. Before we launch we'll reveal more info on Keep, and as part of that I'd like to get you a better idea of what you can expect.

All I know is that my warden followed Morrigan through that dimension portal thingamajig. If she ditched him once again I'm killing her. Poor guy just wants to be with his waifu.

She also looks amazing.

That is a ridiculous outfit, and her face looks made of plastic

She's a pretty plot heavy character, but you don't need to have her in your party in order to understand her role in DA2 or DA3.

Yes, you can kill her, but she was clearly always meant to be an operator of whatever God Thedas has, so them bringing her back to life, even if via handwaiving, is passable.

Yeah, but it looks ridiculous as combat attire. Hopefully there are other, less snooty outfits.

That shouldn't be a problem they said they have 16 million armor combinations that can be equipped on both you and your followers. As well a crafting system which they've kind of alluded to allowing players to keep the weapons and armor they like and apply the stats to them. I would really love this, I've wanted a game to do something like that for a long time now. I hate when you find an armor set or weapon you really like the look of but it's quickly outdated and the top tier stuff looks ugly in comparison, but you can't pass up the actual gameplay benefits.

Come on she's a mage in a fantasy game, it shouldn't have to be based off real-world scenarios, just enjoy the game. In any case, there's a lot of customization for party members.

Correct you are. I find games are the most fun when I completely turn my brain off and not think about anything that's happening in them.

Some master race up in here. Might actually be appropriate for Tevinter....

But really that's literal white washing. Beautifcation mods and the like are pretty dumb, but this shit is just terrible in every way.

Well, I don't know if I can get mad at such mods. I'm black and if I could get a mod that turned Big Boss black I would be all over that shit. Though, I suppose that's different since he's the main playable character and these DA characters and supporting cast, however, they are still playable characters in a sense so I don't know. Point is I'm not too upset about mods that change a characters race.

Eh, I don't think ME was anywhere near as bad though. Most of the key player choices were largely respected and carried forward. The thing with the Quanari horns are understandable and easy to over look. However, resurrecting dead party members is much more egregious and completely unnecessary.

Ehh I'm a huge ME fan, but it was most definitely worse there. Sure there wasn't one big choice like a possible character death being ignored, but there were so many major choices that were largely ignored and or neutered. Pretty much the entire end of ME1 was quietly ignored and had no real meaning, along with a whole host of other major choices that felt important at the time, but resulted in practically nothing different in the end.

That made me legit laugh, thank you sir.
