Dragon Age: Inquisition | E3 2014 Coverage

Nope...Male characters wanting a female romance is pretty rare thing, Vivienne is not an option. Cassandra is however...they better have more options cause man all the companions look pretty mediocre in appearance an personality.
In their quest for diversity Bioware fucked over easily the largest portion of their audience.

Just like in their quest to make something unique they gave us that ugly thing. You know. Mass effect 3

I think Sera is pretty cute

She definitely is. Love that scene of her walking through the field as well.

More depth is nice, but I just like how the companion specific specializations were crafted for them and highlighted their specific characteristics. It just makes sense, especially now in DAI with characters like Solas and Cole who have these wildly unique backgrounds that it would just make sense that they would have abilities no one else does.

I wouldn't put it past Bioware to give them specific skill trees only they have embedded in those specializations.

That, and the fact the most attractive male-female romance is... wait, none of them.

I don't know, I've had a crush on Grace Jones since I was a boy. The idea of a Grace Jones-alike with magic powers is at risk of making my trousers fly off with the force of my natural reaction.

One can hope. I like the hybrid nature of them in DA2's specializations that were a combo or two more or less. A lot of this depends on how the specializations are worked in DAI, if it's like DA2 they could be specific to the companions who teach them to you, so in that sense they would be theirs...kind of. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with balancing the skills and combat, unique skills and specializations probably add that much more difficulty into balancing things out because you want them to be useful but not overpowered.

My sentiments exactly.

BioWare just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Straight Male culture (I'm an expert), but hot chicks and waifus are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in non-Straight Male society where you can become successful by being a gay. If you screw someone over in Straight Male society, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Straight Male public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase DAI for any romance, nor will they purchase any of BioWare's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but BioWare has alienated an entire market with this move.

BioWare, publicly apologize and cancel all non-Straight romances or you can kiss your business goodbye.

This is good but it's missing something, needs more mentioning of hot waifu's and pandering to model-esc looks.

10/10, would read again.

Where the hell have I been? That's the first time I've ever heard of that.

This mod gives Isabella pants but also included a light skinned option. There was a shitstorm over it and the modder defended their actions by saying Isabella was white in DA:O which was not true at all. The best part about it is that mod isn't the only one :/ One good thing about Frostbite being hard to mod is that there won't be any white Vivienne mods. There is already a picture floating around of an 'improved' Vivienne making her white and blue-eyed.

lol Next time someone complains about fangirls ruining Bioware, I'll just point them to this thread. Getting angry over romance options isn't an exclusively female thing.

man that repost over and over never gets old

Guy has a point though as much as he's being blunt about it. Most gamers are straight males, and if you look at the companions most of them are gay, but that's part of it..None of them stand out like Allister or Morrigan from Dragon Age Inquisition..

So what...the male characters only get one romancable female? What kind of horse pockey is this..?

I'm straight and don't give a shit. The game looks great.

Only Dorian and Sera are gay, and The Iron Bull is probably bi.

2-3 out of 12.

You'll likely have two at least. A straight female and bi female option. My money is on Cassandra being bi and then Scribe Girl being the straight female option. Plus there could be others. At the end of the day straight players are most likely still going to have the most available options compared to gay players, at worst it will be an even score.

Isn't there still one more girl to be revealed? The third specialist (the other 2 being Leliana and Cullen).

My point still stands that there is only one female option for male characters to romance. Compared to the plethora of others. Total sausage fest lol.

People worrying about how the characters look are forgetting mods will make them look awesome about 2 days after the game comes out.
They released mod tools for DA, which were hacked to support DA2. There are no mod tools for the Frostbite engine, and Bioware isn't releasing any this time. So what you see is what you're going to get.

Do we know about Viv? I thought she was confirmed romanceable.

And there has only been one person confirmed for straight women (Cullen), lesbians (Sera), and gay men (Dorian). You are jumping to conclusions without having all the information. There are likely more.

Yeah, they are promising more robust options and said that they did not want to elaborate too much because they want the players to find out for themselves. All I know is the game looks fantastic, regardless.

Haven't they already announced all the characters in the game so far. Last I check the main site. Unless there are more unannounced companions..I thought we had the full list at E3.

The only two problems I have with the looks are that while the males have variety in terms of hair length, all the females have a small hair cut and the second is that a few of the characters have really big lips (like Vivienne and Sera). Otherwise it's good to see diversity in terms of looks!

Yes, but they haven't revealed everyone who is romancable yet and their requirements besides Dorian and Sera. Cassandra and Cullen could be bi and there is the Scribe Girl and Vivienne who are probably straight male options.

The only one I wish still had long hair was Sera. I dug her Die Antwoord mullet look. I dig Viv's horns, though I hope we can still put the face paint on her that looked really badass, and Cassandra looks pretty good with short hair, though I think she would have looked slick with long hair done up in one of those headband hair braids instead of that weird dark crown she has now.

Always thought it was funny how MCs in modern Bioware games sort of act as gay and bisexual magnets. Traveling the countryside, their voice like a clarion call to all non-straight folk: "Join me on an adventure!" You'd be hard-pressed to find such a large grouping of gays and bis in real life without actively seeking them out. Though I suppose Thedas is it's own setting, perhaps straights are a sexual minority there.

Anyway, I don't care which way my companions swing. Their respective waifu/husbando potential isn't an important part of evaluating their character to me. I've always planned on romancing Cassandra anyway!

I can't tell if this is serious or not, especially because I can't believe people buy Bioware games specifically for the romance options. I know a lot of people really enjoy the romance options, but that should never be the selling point of these kinds of games. The fan pandering is also why Mass Effect 3 has easily the most boring squadmates of any Bioware game so far.

They Should've pandered better with the plot then.

and the award for most original and hilarious joke goes to.... Woofington!

This is Woofington's second award after his "inquisitor? I barely know her!" Joke back in 12

Eh, I liked the ME3 squadmates. Wish there was a Krogan, though.

Yeah, it looked familar, yet not exactly the same as something I thought I'd previously read.

Eh, I liked the ME3 squadmates. Wish there was a Krogan, though.

Well, I know you said that you liked them, but for me it's more like:

Kaiden - Dull as shit, seemingly added soley as a romance option as well as to make it seem like your choices "really" mattered over the series. Didn't really dislike him in ME1, but it was the first game and there wasn't really anyone else to compare him to besides the remaining few you actually had to choose from.

Ashley - same as above

Tali - found her actually moderately enjoyable in the first two games, especially her side mission, but really hated the fact that she was assured a spot in ME3 at the sake of more interesting characters; specifically due to fan pandering and the insane Tali obsession.

Liara - duller than dull shit. Was cool in the first game for the same reasons above, had an amazing DLC mission in ME2, but thankfully she wasn't a mainstay in that game. She should have stayed busy as the
Shadowbroker
; but oh no, had to be put in as a love intrest.

Edi - Only almost intersting because of Tricia Helfer and because of some of her dry, witty dialogue. Very sad replacement for Legion.

Vega - Yo bro!

Pretty much the only characters that were remotely interesting to me were Javik and Garrus. ME2 had a better selection of more interesting characters. Like, a lot more interesting.
