Dragon Age: Inquisition | E3 2014 Coverage

I really hate that we have to know everyone's sexual preference going into the game to appease everyone who's worried that their favorite character might play for the wrong team. Whatever happened to just playing the game and finding out for yourself?

I feel the same. This angst of in game lovers quarreling is sophomoric to me. However I like to have my character bang all his female crew mates ala Captain Kirk.

But this leads to a bigger question of why do ppl complain about spoilers yet want things like this spoiled. I think romance options & anything giving u fore knowledge should be spoiler tagged

Q: How much do the graphics differ in terms of playing on a ps4, as opposed to a pc?

A: It's comparable to the PC stuff we've shown, having said that we're still in Alpha so there's a lot of work left to do on platform optimization. (CL)
Can't wait. I'm sure the PS4 version looks great.

mmm she will be my inquisitor waifu
maybe it is just the cheek structure but she reminds me of Jennifer Lawrence

Josephine is lookin fine. I need to read over the QA stuff, some pretty decent info came out through it, but man going by average for every good question there was like 30 super shitty ones.

Q: Is it true that we don't have an option to put Vivienne in something hideous just to mess with her?
A: All equipment on followers can be changed. But it will look consistent with that character's style (MD)

Q: Did you stick with the no health regen outside of combat from one of the early demos?
A: Currently still the case. (CL)

Happy with those two answers.

That doesn't really address my problem, either. I thought in an effort to make the game more inclusive they made every character a little less interesting by slapping a cookie-cutter "I'll sleep with anyone named Hawke" designation on them. I like that some of these characters are going to be unavailable to you. But I would have liked to find that out on my own.
Bear in mind that we did this to ourselves. The reason for these reveals is that fans were anxious and vocal about them, and they demand answers.

If you want it to be a pleasant surprise, you should have been like my friend and stayed away from DA:I topics long ago.

I did a media blackout for ME3 like this and was happy with the resulting surprises.

I wouldn't mind not knowing the romance options. I would have liked the surprise, but at the same time romances are one of the last things on my list of stuff I care about so I don't really care that much that I know nearly all of them now. It's such a minor part of the game that it really doesn't mean that much to me at this point.

Yeah, you know what: yes, I can. The Knight Enchanters were designed to let mages get up close and personal and the abilities in that tree encourage you to do so, including the ability to be effective at melee ranges. They're different from Arcane Warriors, though. Less tanky. (ML)

fuck yeah

Q: Ok so dragon age 1 was my favorite out of the 2 games. I liked the fighting stile better on da2. Ive beaten the first game with every charicter type. My fav was my dalish elf named turrin. In one of the endings i chose to breed my elf with morgan. Will their sons look half elf? And are you planning on bringing back race for charicter selection in the future games? Because honestley that was my favorite thing about dao

A: There are no half elves in DA. The Human side always dominates the appearance. Hence Alistair (MD)

Wait, what?!

Wait, what?!

His moms be an elf yo. Papa Maric boned an elf chick in the deep roads and out popped Alistair, but they told him he was some human servant girls kid in Redcliffe.

It's from the second DA book The Calling. His mom also appears in the third DA book, Asunder. She might even appear in DAI since she's a super important person, but she's more than likely dead.

A book? Really? I didn't even know there were DA books. Damn them for expanding their universe and leaving me out of it![/QUOTE]

There's 4 out now and a 5th coming this fall.

Thers also some comics which are rather good and then an art/lore book.

Josephine is the Scribe girl right?

Thank goodness male character can romance her too, since she's looking great. Definitely aiming for her when I buy the game, ehehehe.

Orson Scott Card wrote a Dragon Age miniseries for IDW, but the recent stuff from Dark Horse was written by David Gaider (lead writer of the game) so it's better. Art is a bit meh though.

As far as EU books go they are not too bad either. The first couple had a good amount of grammar and spelling issues that the editor must have missed but the stories are decent.

They finally admitted Alistair is half elf? Good, now that silly argument can be put to rest. The deniers on the Bioware forums were always a hilarious bunch. I know it was left slightly ambiguous in the book, they don't actually call him by name, but come on it was obviously him.

Tumblr SJW's going crazy over the romance locks. I really feel sorry for Bioware because of the craziness generated by the romance part of any of their games.

Yeah it really sucks for BioWare. They've spent years trying to make a great RPG yet people just go batshit crazy over romances lol.

Luckily it seems like BioWare is much more focused on creating a great game as opposed to just trying to appeal to everyone's relationship preferences.

whats the obsession with cassandra?

I admit I was a bit displeased, too, that I couldnt romance morrigan with my female in origins :( but of course that made sense in the end

Well, Bioware unlocked Pandora's box and kept prying the lid further open so it's hard to feel sympathetic. They apparently feel it's a defining part of their games and a unique selling point over the comptetition.

It's an interesting sidegame and does add to the illusion of choice, so it's not completely wasted on me. The best thing about romances is Bioware breaking a lance for inclusivity in gaming.

It would be more interesting if there were emergent romances between NPCs, instead of this obsession with pretty people falling for the main character. I really enjoyed Aveline's hapless love life in DA2 for instance - more of that instead of whining about her not being available for bedding.

I'm just boggled by the amount of people who see romance as a core gameplay mechanic. Because of them, I know more about some side character's sex life than I do about, say, stealth gameplay.

based on what i've heard from forums/social media dragon age is essential a high fantasy fucking simulator. i only played origins where the romances were incredibly awkward but also generally insignificant and easily avoidable. did romances become a bigger deal in DA2 and in the ME games? they seriously seem to be dominating the conversation.

I hate you for making me aware of this

never thought I'd see a hive or more scum and villainy than Bioware Social.

In all fairness, I don't think BSN is that bad anymore. The Mass Effect board was always worse, and after the character forum was closed, everyone kind of left to tumbler. Plus BioWare LBGT stance long since scared of the homophobes. Its kind of normal now. Its remarkably positive for a gaming board!

Outside of having more choice I would say not at all. It's still pretty much the same. Has been for a long time. I guess people attach to it since it's still pretty rare for RPG's.

whats the obsession with cassandra?

"I can't believe she's not gay! I mean, look at her!"

Some people seem to have stereotyped her callously and expected BioWare to do the same.

Which speaks to the over-obsession with romance. I've never once wondered what Cass' orientation is.

Yeah, meltdowns galore. It's not like this was even unexpected. Cassandra only expressed interest in men in her previous appearances.

Call me shallow all you want, but I'm incredibly pissed at Bioware making Cassandra male-only. The other two female options for female inquisitors both seem incredibly lackluster and I don't really have an interest in either of them.

Damn it...and I was really looking forward to the game too. You can call me stupid or pathetic or whatever for throwing in the towel over something minor like this, but we all have our reasons for why we play. In an RPG, my romances are important to me.

Screw it. I don't care anymore. What a idiotic move on Bioware's part.

I cried for an hour because I won’t be able to romance my female inquisitor with Cassandra. Cried. Literal tears. I thought to myself “this is so stupid. Why am I crying over a fictional character” ILL TELL YOU WHY. BECAUSE I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS CHANCE AND IT WAS TAKEN FROM ME. My heart hurts… My eyes burn… Ugh. Bioware. You failed me.

Hello Bioware,

I am writing to inform you that you have broken my heart.
You decided to give Cassandra to the dude-bros… This angers me. I am so upset that I, a female gamer, will not be able to romance Cassandra with my female Inquisitor. I have been waiting for the chance to romance Cassandra and now that there was finally a chance it was taken away from not only me but all my fellow lgbt gamers. She should have been Bi, so that we could each make our own ‘canon’ stories… Dragon Age 2 was perfect went it came to romances…
I’m crying.
You made me cry Bioware… and not in the normal “omg this is such a great story all my precious bbys” sort of way…
These are the tears of heart break.
I hope you’re happy.

While behavior like this is kind of insane, I have a hard time feeling that bad for BioWare because they are well aware of the audience they are cultivating here with the romances. Toxic behavior is to be expected.

I wonder if the outrageous ones are true though... Bioware is a favored target of Reddit/Codex/SA trolls.

Oh really ?
Did you miss the Nintendo thread about gay marriage not being allowed ?
This is not surpising at all.

Brah, I was in the Garrus and Tali threads on BSN back at the height of ME2's popularity. Someone wrote a fucking scientific formula to try and gauge what Tali's sweat would taste like. People speculated on what "ingesting" Garrus would be like. Shit got cray.

I remember the Pre-Release DA2 character threads. Anders' thread became a dumping ground for yaoi fanart, and folks bizarre obsession with Varric's chest hair went much farther than it ever should have..

that's not fair, they've had romances since their inception and these crazy fans only really started popping up around Mass Effect/DAO era

but really I wouldn't wish that insanity on my worst enemy.

:lol :;lol. I just can't stop laughing. Man I almost wish I was there for the entertainment factor alone.

Thank you for sharing your story with the group, Razia... that was very brave of you. Any other survivors want to come forward? We're among friends here. You're safe now.

Don't mind the noise as my innocence shatters.

I understand that the romances are very imporant, but did we learn something new about gampley mechanics?

I'd like to know more about crafting. If there's a system similar to Skyrim (as in, crafting can give you the best weapons and armors in the game), I might spend 5 hours studying the best combinations alone.

Wait, back up. What about Feynriel from Dragon Age 2 then? Elven mother, human father, clearly looks half-elf, and specifically talks about the difficulties of his appearance. In Kirkwall he is mistrusted for looking like an Elf, and with the Dalish he realizes how human he looks in comparison.

Is this some big retcon they added in the books? Because it's very clearly established in DA2 that half elves exist:

maybe he's just some rare mutant

I know they said in DAO that all half elves look human as well.
