Dragon Age: Inquisition has gone gold

I had a half hour run at PAX today. Side quests on top of side quests on top of side quests. I want this game now!!

So close but still so far. :(

Extremely excited to play this. This thread and impressions are not helping, good god.

Still, I am going in knowing very little about the story and the game overall, can't remember the last time that actually happened to me. Makes me even more eager to play the game tbh.

So the review embargo's up well before release.

Dat confidence.

If we're making metacritic predictions then I'm gonna say 83. The reviewers will like the visuals and gameplay for the most part but are not impressed by the story. I have no basis for any of this.

Im gonna get really sad if they story and pay off is not good. Goddamit Bioware they can do this shit. They took their time on this. There is no reason for them not to have a good conclusion.

A simple save-the-world plot is fine. I'm not expecting Memento style narrative that will block our socks off, but I hope for great characters and party members. This is my worry. Right now I am only really into Mustache Mage. I think all the other companions except for the Qunari and the Dwarf looks bad. Particularly Vivienna looks like a wax doll.

But from Mass Effect 1 (2007) all the way to SWTOR and dragon Age 2, they have consistently given us great party members with good dialogues. If they miss on this, I will be sad.

I just remember being impressed with the number of voice actors considering everything is voiced.

Four is still a good number I suppose.
The Inquisitor has so many lines in the game, honestly we're lucky to even get four. The amount of work must have been insane. I was honestly expecting 1 male and 1 female. The fact that they went above and beyond to include both an American and British actor for each gender was a very welcome addition.

I'm not worried about the party members- they've got the same lineup of writing talent they've been using for characters in the series all along plus the addition of Patrick Weekes who was one of the best character writers for Mass Effect.

Lukas Kristjanson more involved than ever + Patrick Weekes writing 3 characters and no more Jennifer Hepler [sorry, but DAII Anders is the worst BioWare character ever].

I think that the DA:I story and characters will be fine.

The 18th cannot get here soon enough! I need to boot up my DA:O and DA2 games (especially DA2) to refresh myself on the choices I made for the keep. I've played DA:O so many times with different characters making different choices I don't remember the exact choices I made with my main character. I only played DA2 once and was a bit disappointed by it so I really don't recall much of the story.

Omg I can't wait to try it out on remote play too!

Should I be excited? DA:O was a top 3 game for me last gen, DA2 wasn't very good and is a bottom tier game for sure. This looks like BioWare took their time with it, at least.

This is purely based on what shinobi said in this thread, but early word from reviewers is that the game is much better that DA 2.

Hepler also wrote Orzammar, though, which was pretty much the best quest in Origins in terms of, well, being interesting. I think it'd be bad form to knock her simply because you disliked Anders.

That said, she wrote some of Cassandra as well as three major plotlines in DA:I before leaving anyway, so it isn;t like she wasn't involved. Gaider took over Cass when she left, before that I think he was only writing Dorian.

Really hope that my prediction is bullshit 'cause an engaging story and characters is what I want from a game like this.

Yeah, I was also surprised to discover recently that Jennifer Hepler wrote much of the Legacy dlc for DA2, which really was very good. Personally, I think the characterisation of Anders suffered from the same thing that the rest of DA2 suffered from - rushed development, leading to characters/stories/environments not being fleshed out very well - but given Orzammar/Legacy I think Jennifer Hepler is a better writer than she's given credit for, it's just that Anders didn't work out so well.

Can't wait for Nov 21st! Those armours are looking gorgeous. I can see myself spending a hellaciously long time on the cc/crafting screens :3

I'm new to Dragon Age and would like to play Inquisition, but I know it's the third in the series and I'm concerned about catching up with the story. If I were to use The Keep, would that inform me enough about events from the previous games? As somebody who's played all three Mass Effect games before, I can only imagine what it would've been like for me to keep up with the story in ME3 without playing the other two.

Much thanks in advance to anybody who responds. :-)

Yes. You'll have Varric narrate the overall plot of the last two while also editing those choices. You'll find the "play" button in the top right corner of the keep tapestry.

Since you've played the Mass Effect games I'm sure you're pretty familiar with how BioWare works with new players~ They are pretty good about not including a lot of the more detailed characters in their games (I think somewhere they said the most people who could be dead without interfering with the story is usually how they go about the default story). On the plus side you never play the same character in all three games, but the player characters from DA:O and DA2 (the Warden, Hawke) will be referenced in DA:I so it's nice to be familiar with them. The Keep itself has a lot of detailed choices that even I as someone who played the games multiple times had to go back and look up in the wiki since there are multiple ways things could play out, but I think that if you read through the Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II story summary wiki you could parse it together fairly well.

Here are some links you might find helpful!:

Can't wait for a Bioware RPG. Can't wait for a Dragon Age game, I skipped two and I hope I didn't miss much.

You mostly missed the set-up for some of DAI
(the kick-off of the Mage -Templar war)
and two DAI companions who were introduced in DA2 (Varric, who was also a companion in DA2 and Cassandra, who was an NPC). Between The Keep and maybe the DA wiki or the resources Yeul linked to, you should be fine. Edit: Also, it seems that the protagonist of DA2 (Hawke) will play a reasonably sized role in DAI - but if you haven't played DA2, then you get a default Hawke - and you can always make up your own in the Keep without playing the game anyway.

Angry Joe mentioned on Twitter that he's embargoed until next week, and will then be releasing some impressions of the game, so I assume that's when the embargo is up for everyone else as well. Edit: He doesn't have a full review copy, just played a few hours. No news on the embargo for reviewers, sorry.

I'm oddly enough really excited to find out which mounts are in the game. I hope there will be a Halla. My elf would look majestic riding it. My qunari less so.

He only played the first 6 hours in an event, not a review copy.

Is the best deal for Inquisition on PC still using the Mexican Origin store? I know GMG has Inquisition in their VIP section for $47 or something.

Definitely think I'm going with british female battlemage. This game is gonna take so much of my life away when it releases haha, I'm gonna be secluded from society.

Edit: Also, I only finished the first Dragon Age on pc, but not the second. Does this dragon age keep thing allow you to go off any previous saves? Or does it start from scratch?

Anyway to get that deal in the US? VPN?

Google it, there are some walkthroughs on how to do it.

I've been set on playing a female Qunari Mage with the British voice for a while now. And I kind of want to play a Female Rogue Dwarf as well.

Keep doesn't import anything so you just start from scratch, can be imported to any system.
