Dragon Age: Inquisition has gone gold

All these quotes by Shinobi have me all

The inquisition!

I didn't see any thread about it, but I saw that EA access for DAI starts on the 13th and allows 6 hours of gametime. Definitely happy with the value of the subscription!

I really like the cloth movement on the characters. No more stiff robes I hope.

I like how long and lanky the elf looks too, jumping around and the animations look great. Kinda reminds me of Nightmare Before Christmas Jack, or Joker (batman).

Can we get rid of the stupid quest objectives seemingly always on the upper right of the screen? Just seems like that's always pasted there in just about every bit of footage I've seen.

In one of the streams I saw the entire UI goes away while you are exploring. It shows up when in battle or swinging your weapon. They even said that there is an option in the settings that could make it always on on/off.

I don't know if there is a way to just hide the objectives though.

I don't even know if a reviewer possibly giving DA:I a 10/10 is a good or a bad sing when it comes to the likelihood of me liking the game these days.

I need a good Bioware game to restore my faith not only in them as a studio but in AAA multiplataform games, I need a good nextgen experience soon.

Shinobi's making it hard to remain calm.

He is making a very good job to be honest, the game looks very promising. I nearly preordered it on origin, but then I recalled my DA2 hype level and stoped. I was to dissapointed with it and angry for preordering. Also in the first weeks DA2 had PC performance issues (DX11-Tessellation).

Waiting for clerifiaction on PC performance and reviews and and yes I know it's frostbite and most probabliy good on PCs but fool me once ... or even thrice with BF4 and Sim City.

Haha, it seems the older I get the more I start to dislike publishers like EA and Ubisoft for their 'BS' in the past. But maybe I am just getting 'weird' or publisher got worse. Probably both.

I'm very worried about how they're going to handle the save carry-overs.

Specifically, I hope we can somehow transfer over how our personal Hawke and Grey Warden looked like.

It seems like they will show up in some fashion and if they look like some generic fucker and not the ones I created, I'm going to be disappointed.

The videogamer.com preview video has my hype at least dampened: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENi6XbJU4wA&feature=youtu.be

He talks about all the side quests were really lame and have not a real story to them or even player agency.

I dont know. I havent played, but could it be that they are just really critical? I saw the 6/10 they gave for Sunset Overdrive. May just be over criticalness?

I dont agree that the side quests in Origins where as deep as they say. Though they might be right as I havent played Inquistion of course!

I just disagree with them because I cant go back and play Origins and again, and neither did I ever want Dragon Age Origins 2. I felt there was plenty of problems that was worth tackling. Not that DA2 was the solution, but I dont like the idea they suggested there.

If these side quests give me a reason to kill more things I'm all for it. I mentioned in another thread recently that I loved FFXII and not because of it's story but because of it's Hunt system which gave me quests to kill powerful enemies. If these side quests at the least give me special enemies to fight that wouldn't be there without activating the quest (DA:O and DA2 does this) then I'm happy.

One of the things I disliked about DA1 and 2 was that you could run out of enemies to fight, which caused me to save dragon fights and such so I could fight them over and over again by loading the save. I also do this for certain fights in FFXII though.

Not having any decisions to make in 4 hours of playtime does strike me as odd. I really can't recall something like that in Origins or even DA2.

Did Origins have any decisions in the first four hours? That amount of time would have gotten you into Lothering at best.

Also what side quests that weren't essentially fetch quests happen in the first few areas of Origins?

I agree it's frustrating if the side quests aren't varied but acting like Origins didn't have this problem is strange.

Hrm. I will take there (pre)reviews with a grain of salt since Sunset Overdrive. Having some of the most fun I have had in a long time with that game and they gave it a six somehow. I wonder if it is the same reviewer...

Yeah I think it's a start of game situation they are in. I'd bet when you get more power and the Inquisition is more of a force you won't be asked to do petty quests but bigger things. It also works for easing people into the game. We shall see when people get hands on their xbox one EA thing.

I do hope the side quests at least have some meaningful reward or that there are enough of them that branches out the story even more.

I am not dying for another game full of fetch and kill quests just so the game is 20 hours longer.

I agree that he might be using his rose tinted glasses for that critique. Mind you, it sounds like a very valid one, but likely will be dismissed among the vast full hype previews.

What I've gathered, is that at the beginning of the game you don't have the Skyhold, you go to the Hinterlands and need to gain '4 points' of power to advance the main plot, every sidequest or rift or camp gives you 1 point.

So maybe the main plot was locked for that demo, so they couldn't advance it and people were left there exhausting The Hinterlands?

So for those playing on the Xbox One, we can assume that next week will bring the demo in EA Access/Vault with play carrying over once retail is released? Just haven't seen any talk of that since hearing about it being a perk for that program.

Yep because they gave a a worse review to a game you enjoy their criticism can#t be valid. Grow up.

Making interesting and meaningful decisions is a big part of RPGs for me. So even if they fixed the combat again to being competent that would really lessen my enjoyment of this game. All the interesting and meaningful decisions I got to make in Wasteland 2 are probably a big reason why I enjoyed that game so much.

Just spend about 40 minutes filling in all the choices in the keep. Even tho it was only 3 months ago that I played Origin, there were still some situations were i had to think for a minute before I remembered what my choices were exactly. Annoying that you can't just import your save game, would be so much better.

Same time Keep like system makes messing with world states that much easier and faster than with 3rd party save editors.

Yeah i would not have my saves anyway, so the keep system is cool. i'd hope though that from now on they just somehow synch your decision to your Origin account. That way keeping saves around would not be an issue and you could even change platforms without issue.

Honestly, from the Russian 1 hour preview, I don't mind the way the quests are done. (Spoiler for the video)
The quest to fetch the now widowed woman's ring from the Templars I thought was an example of a good fetch quest. She gave a short context for the quest which ties into the greater narrative going on in the zone, and then you're off to respond to the quest if you want to. She doesn't ask you to get it, but you can get the ring if you want to. It feels more natural. And since you've witnessed and are taking part of the Templar-Apostate conflict, the quest ties in well what with how the husband was killed without mercy because they simply couldn't take any chances that he was an apostate. Even if it wasn't a quest, I'd probably have killed a few Templar's in his honour anyway. The quest to fetch a potion from a woman's son was also well crafted, I think. You get interesting reactions from the people you interact with, instead of just "oh here you go I guess". And if I get those from fetch quests, they're well done in my mind.
I'd much rather have fetch quests than I want "kill 10 nugs"-quests. They are always pointless in the greater narrative, since you're never really making an indent.

I think I've seen literally every preview so far and this game is one of those titles that are great to play in the cold Winter. Just imagine, after a long day from your work you are tired, you arrive home and after you are done with the other priorities you sit back with some hot tea or coffee, all comfy and warm while playing this game, enjoying the Story, doing some side quests and listening to the soundtrack.

Unfortunately -and I really hate to say this- I think I'm going to wait until there's a cheaper version with all DLC expansions. I really, really dislike this idea since I would prefer to have this game on Day one on my PS4 but I'm on a very tight budget this year and I already decided that I will spend my gaming budget on some gifts for family and friends for the upcoming Holidays.

Either way can't wait to play this and I'll be checking the OT to gather some impressions from you all my good GAFfers. :)

There are definitely decisions that can be made during questing- spoiler from one of the recent livestreams:

They showed an example of a quest where you can either assault the bandit camp and take everyone out or you can craft some kind of respect totem or something (paraphrasing horribly) that will allow you to challenge the bandit leader and, if you win, would result in the rest of the bandits joining the Inquisition.

From that video "How does it compare to Origins?" On the subject of no healers.

"You have more potions to use"

"The only thing you can do, to look after the health of your party, is when you see when your mage is maybe getting too much aggro, is to go over and control them to get them out of the way, use a potion, and carry on. Which takes some of the strategy out of it, to be honest... it's even more actiony than Dragon Age 2 was."

Yeah seems like something is odd here. How can you have more potions than DAO when it could go well above 12, and as I listen to him explain what you had to do since healing wasn't a mana spell I saw his characters had that shield up. There's much more that you can do that what he seem to have understood.

hopefully they make a goty edition for this game, they skipped out on me3 and DA2 so take that as you will, (You'll probably buy it when its cheaper)

That's not even true to begin with- there are other methods of managing Aggro than just moving your mage out of the way.

Very unnecessary personal attack there. I was simply saying their views on games obviously don't align with mine if it is the same person making the review. Please grow up and learn to not insult people for no reason.

From a recent stream, Mike said that there'd be a long while before any DLC of consequence would be added, due to the team being exhausted. The DLC in development would mainly be focused on expanding the multiplayer section if I recall correctly.

Just a heads up if you're serious about waiting till an all-inclusive version is released - it may be veeeeeeeery far off. :)

I myself will take the route I always do: never buy digital DLC ever. It's usually much cheaper to buy the game again if an eventual all-inclusive version is released.

Yeah, they talk about how they wish there was a use to play more tactically but it seems like they didn't really care or played on easy. If they weren't dying they didn't need a mage to begin with, and if they were dying they should have learned to utilize damage mitigation. The AI probably kept them alive with the bubbles, shield tanking, and CC so they had no clue.

And now I see that he doesn't realize that you could raise people in battle in the other DA games "you had to wait until the battle was concluded to revive in the other DA games." This preview is kinda messed up hah.

Waiting for a GOTY Edition was the same that saying that I have to wait until it gets a bit cheaper. It's just, that way, my brain felt it was a better excuse. But thank you both for answering. The game itself seems to provide an already decent amount of hours and I would be more than happy with that. I just can't honestly wait but will have to. As always, thanks for the explanation! :)

PS: Loving the good hype and healthy discussion in here. Feels good.

What you mean? Why wouldn't BioWare go with "canon" for default world state?

I mean that in a game where the player has such a strong power in choosing where the story goes, it's stupid for BioWare to make an official story. It kind of defeats the purpose of choice when BioWare basically states, "this is what really happens despite what the player thinks."

They did that with Mass Effect and I think even Dragon Age has this issue (Mage Hawke is implied to be the real one). It's like if BioWare wanted to make books, they couldn't just make them so far away from the events of these games that there wouldn't be any issues.

So, any consensus on the frequency of fetch quests in relation to total content in a single zone? Don't want to spoil myself too much with that 1 hour video.
