Dragon Age: Inquisition has gone gold

The Canadian Devil at work.

No more video watching or screenshot viewing for me. Its getting to the point of playing the game without actually playing the game. I want to save "some" mystery for myself.

From the videos it looks like it isn't like Origins and DA2 anymore, which is unfortunate. You cycle through star, check, and X setting for each ability (I guess star means prioritize?) and then there's a screen called "Behaviors" where you can program what enemy your companion attacks, when they use health potions, etc. But it looks like the prioritized If-> Then system is gone. It's actually my only concern with this game, if the companion AI is up to snuff, because it looks a lot less customizable.

Hmm...that's really disappointing. Not terribly surprising, though, because internet comments throughout the years have told me a lot of people didn't understand the tactics system (a nickel for every time I read "the AI sucks!"). Those people clearly never played FFXII.

I haven't followed this game's development since it was announced...until now, but I remember back when info was coming out that they mentioned we might visit the Tevinter Imperium. Is this still true? because I'd love to.

That AI customization in DA:O was top notch. Really loved it, but I'm playing on Nightmare so I will probably be micromanaging everything in tactical view.

Man, I can't believe how quickly and completely I've been sucked into the hype. It's so bad that none of my other games sound even remotely appealing. My routine the past few days has been to open steam, scan my library, let out a little 'meh', then grab my tablet and flop on the couch.

That was a mistake by one of the sites previewing it; they just saw a map of Thedas and assumed the game would take place in a bunch of countries. It's Orlais and Ferelden.

Maybe DLC though? Who knows.

That's why I'm thinking it won't be a huge deal since I'll be micromanaging the tough fights in Tactical mode anyway, but still I made some really cool tactics chains that my companions did automatically. Like Merrill using blood magic until her HP was low, then it disabled and she chugged an HP potion, then an MP potion to recast sustains, then activated blood magic again. She basically took care of herself.

Yeah, Nightmare requires a bit more hands-on time, but I was always able to set it up so the AI could handle themselves >90% of the time.

Noo00oo0!!1
Oh well, at least we'll still visit Ferelden again.

Hnngh I want to knowww. If there isn't a Halla mount, my elf will cry.
If there are halla mounts, I'm choosing Elf over Qunari for my first playthrough, even if I hate how skinny elves are in DA.

Do we have any idea about what kind of skill trees the companions are going to start out with points in? I'm becoming OCD about planning my party composition.

I'm actually thinking about creating a thread (or, a post in the review thread) when the embargo is over with like 100 screenshots.

Just me dropping the bomb.

*drops mic*

The screenshots you posted are great, but are there any locations in the game that really stood out to you? A yes or no will suffice.

Honestly Tevinter probably deserves its own game. That country is...interesting to say the least.

I'd actually love it if it a 'side-story' game was set in there, like the way spin-offs used to be handled in the 90s. It wouldn't have to be strictly an RPG, but rather a different genre or combination of genres.

I mean, an adventure game set in Tevinter where you were basically investigating fraud and/or sowing political intrigue would be delicious. Everybody's a mage, anyway - give me something else to do!

The Western Approach seems incredibly boring. It's just a huge desert.

But then again, I'll probably change my tune.

They've hinted at the next Blight coming from the Anderfels, and Tevinter is right next door. I think that'd be a cool route to go in a future game.

Honestly, I would not be surprised if this game ended with the next Blight beginning.

Dawg, any comment about the companion AI tactics? Would be nice to know one way or another how much it's been changed/streamlined.

Starting next Tuesday, I'm checking out. Gonna go get caught up on Sleepy Hollow, and pretend this game doesn't exists until the following week.

I'm playing through DA2 now to prepare and I'm actually enjoying it a lot more than I did a few years ago. I guess It's a lot easier to forgive it's faults when there's a new DA game on the horizon.

Helps that you know what failures to expect too

On my one and only attempt it drove me up the wall never to return

Hope I was helpful to some of you guys. I tried answering most of the questions here and in the other thread. Going to continue playing now which means I'll be unavailable for a while again.

Oh well, embargo is almost over anyway.

I need some advice for my Keep save file. I never played DA2 so I have some questions for someone who did.

1.
What did you do with Isabela and the Arishok? I was reading up on it and it seems Isabela was the one that caused all that trouble so the better option would be to hand her over? Or was the arishok an asshole worth killing?

2.
What did you do with Anders? Sure he flubbed up but does he deserve to die? How's is personality?

This is srs bsns.

I've got TLC to give me my fix of DA.

Plus, gotta catch up on writing.

Plus, Desert Bus 8 starting Friday will help pass the time.

PLUS PRE-LOAD ON FRIDAY.

I killed the Arishock. He wasn't an asshole; actually, I liked him, but Isabella was my love interest so...yeah. Also, she comes back with the tome to correct her mistake and gives it to the Arishock. Moreover, I'm not sure, but I think if you hand her over, she escapes again with the tome anyway, so it's all kinda pointless.

2.
I just told him to fuck off. I should have probably killed him since he was the catalyst that started the armed canflict, as well as murdering innocent people including a very likeable and sensible NPC, but I'm always weary when killing characters since they might appear in later games/DLC.
He's a terrible character, though. Nothing like he was in Awakening.

These are tough questions, haha.

1. Isabela betrayed her employer's orders when she found out she was smuggling slaves as cargo and freed them all. Her employer basically said "steal this tome as recompense or we kill you" so she did. The Qunari chased her and a storm wrecked them both in Kirkwall. She lost the Tome and was looking for it in Kirkwall, as were the Qunari. Hawke helps her find the Tome again and she takes off. This and some other stuff incite the Arishok to try and take over Kirkwall, killing a bunch of people including the Viscount. Isabela then returns with the Tome out of guilt and gives it to the Arishok. Arishok demands that Hawke let him take Isabela as well since she stole it to begin with.

So that's a bit more detail into the choice. Personally if Isabela had not returned with the Tome I would have been fine with the Arishok finding and capturing her. But she came back out of loyalty to Hawke and to do the right thing, so there was no way in hell I was letting the Arishok have her after that.

2. Anders in the Awakening expansion is a light-hearted joker, but at some point he merges with a Spirit of Justice and becomes a totally different person in DA2, obsessed with ending mage opression and developing a real "with us or against us" messiah complex. He kills all those people in the Chantry but knows he deserves to die for it. There's an undercurrent of self-loathing and that he doesn't want to live anymore.

I killed him because his rationale was "I know I killed innocents but it was necessary to enact great change." Those who use such justifications will do so again, and I wasn't about to let someone go and be a leader of a new mage revolution that is fine with using innocent people as bullets for his freedom gun.

I killed the Arishok, it just seemed to cruel to send Isabela with that guy. And he'd already caused damage to the city and killed people, so I figured fuck him.

2.
Fuck Anders. He's dead.

Well, I have multiple save states ready to go (five to be precise) that have all of the Big Events that I want in there.

So I have it both ways for each choice you presented.

1.
From rumors, it seems best to kill the Arishok as to get an Origins cameo.
2.
I liked Anders, but it is clear as the game goes on that the is mentally unstable due to dying in Awakenings.

That is why VPN exists ;)

This is true. PS4 for me and as GAME gave me free credit from them. Going to be a long old week.

I killed the Arishok but I'd have liked to be able to keep him alive. Gotta look out for you friends first.

2.
I killed Anders becbecause he was a selfish idiot and he annoyed me. He was okay to begin with then just went off the rails and acted like a complete twat. He killed the one rational person in Kirkwall and frankly deserved to die.

Can only tell you what I did

1.
I did not hand over Isabela mainly because we were friends with benefits at that time and the Arishok while normally of acceptable personality would not let me talk him down -> so he had to go.
2.
I hated Anderes but felt that death was the easy way out. I want him to attone for his sins so I let him live which put me in conflict with some of my comerades but I still felt it was the right thing to do. Suffer for as long as you live, mage-boy!
