Dragon Ball Super |OT2| June 12: Judgment Day

17 and 18 are some of the most interesting characters because of how differently they turned out in the separate timelines. 17 and 18 in the original timeline became sadistic and coldhearted, whereas they never killed a single person in the altered timeline and eventually got their act together. Both versions of them are also completely believable, because they're delinquent teenagers suddenly given unlimited power; in once instance they're given free reign to abuse this power and it corrupts them entirely, while in the other they're humbled by the Z Fighters and Cell and manage to grow into respectable people.

It's vaguely reminicent of Ganondorf in Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. In one timeline he succeeded in taking over the world and then got rekt by Link, so when we see him again in WW he's more reserved and calculating, apparently having learned from his defeat. In the other he never manages to go through with his plan and never fights Link, instead getting sealed away by the sages, and then when this Ganondorf is reintroduced he's still bold, brash, and eager to carry out his world domination.

Separate timelines are just really good recipes for character development, because you get to see the same person evolve in different ways.

hey guys,
can you post a few youtubes of well animated dbz episodes, or scenes

don't care about audio, gonna mute it

This Goku VS Majin Vegeta segment is some of the best animation in the whole series IMO. It's certainly a bit slower than your average DBZ fight and you kinda get the impression they're fighting on the moon or something but I think it's a perfectly respectable style of fight. There's no "cheating" here with rapidly repeated frames and lines that are meant to represent quickly moving fighters bouncing off of each other - it's all sweet, sweet choreography. No shortcuts to see here. I'm a big fan.

dank ball punch graphics, i'm glad goku has dragonballs tho

Such a shame that this episode was so poorly drawn. With Trunks's introductory episode and The History of Trunks TV special being so well animated, this episode makes it even more disappointing. Trunks being a badass and making short work of his foes begs for top notch animation.

I think SSJ2 Goku vs. Kid Buu might have the best fight animation of the show.

Do you think they'll ever explain Future Trunks to Trunks?

It seems like they don't won't to. Probably too much pressure for little Trunks. He is a kid after all. When they noticed him mentioning he wanted to cut frieza up, they just stood there shocked, but said nothing.

Strange.

He's totally gonna find out eventually.

That would be so in character for her older self. Funny thing is, her husband is a super cop now lmaaaao. She really needs to make more appearances in the anime.

Love both her jp VA and eng VA so much.

18 robbing places is "so in character" like 15 years ago lol.

She did blackmail Hercule for cash. I'm sure she still has the itch.

17's probably "found nirvana" up in the mountains by now.

I'd love a spin-off series following Park Ranger 17's adventures.

I'm being dead serious, too. I really would love that. Something small-scale in the larger Dragon Ball universe is right up my alley, and a park ranger has potential for some pretty wild things, like back in the days of Kid Goku.

Wow I just got myself all excited about an idea that has literally zero chance of ever coming to fruition in any official capacity. ;_;

I've been pining for the Adventures of Park Ranger 17 since I first learned he became a park ranger. I want it badly.

Wonder why 17 never bothered to fight Buu when he was terrorizing everyone. Seems like something he would enjoy doing.

#ToriyamaForgot

I'd prefer to just chalk it up to him being high most of the time that was going on.

Well the last time Toriyama talked about 17 it was a year ago.

His name is Lapis, he is married and has two adopted kids (the children of his wife), he is still a park ranger and is on the good side.

He has visited 18 and Krilin to meet their daughter on Kame Senin's island.

In Dragon Ball Heroes, super 17 is one of the most popular character, and he keeps getting new retarded transformations, like his absorption of his sister, futa 17.

There's is one tiny hope that 17 and Gohan are gonna team up to save earth while everyone is away.....

Toriyama designed the Dragonball Online Nameks which had variations beyond the typical ones seen in the series. He could use Universe 6 as an excuse to throw those designs in the main series.

All this 17 talk is kinda funny, I was watching some of the Cell Saga with my brother last night, and we got to the part where Cell absorbed 17. My brother was saying that it would be cool if 17 was alive. I told him that heis alive, and is a park ranger. Then we just busted out laughing for like 30 seconds.

Finally finished watching the tournament in the Buu saga. Forgot it was this long. It's at least 6-7 episodes lol. But I had to watch it in anticipation of what's about to happen in Super!

Anyway, it was just brilliant. I love the whole tournament setting. It's not too serious and there's so many fun interactions. Videl being absolutely gob-smacked by the z-warriors, Piccolo getting rattled by Supreme Kai, Krillin being krillin and of course Gohan turning SSJ2. An underrated moment for sure.

It's quite surprising how different certain characters are from the beginning of the Buu saga to now. Obviously Vegeta's character growth is absolutely unmatched but the character growth by Satan is nice to see.

It also does highlight how certain characters have fallen. I hate Videl in Super. She is so bland compared to what she was in DBZ. She has spent her entire upbringing fighting and now she's got no fire in her at all. Bulma and Chichi were never this boring.

Goku is definitely dumber and less serious than he was in DBZ. He had his stupid moments in DBZ but it was always supplemented by interesting interactions. Goku in Super at the moment is just *does something stupid* "I want to train/fight" *does something stupid*. Hoping this is just some sort of character growth for him but he shouldn't really need it.

Wow I don't think I've ever seen BoG and RoF in English.

Man the english dub is sooooooo much better it's insane. Like I forgot how much I liked some of the voices. Beerus and Whis in english made their presence so much more amusing (even though I think their japanese voices are great too).

When Super gets dubbed I think it will really increase my enjoyment of the series. I REALLY enjoyed the BoG an RoF dubs. The voice actors feel so polished now. The only character I think I prefer in Japanese is Whis.

?????????????????????

you people are all insane!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the original Ocean Dub man. I own this, I'm insane in the brain! Dragonball has been one of the few series where I've always enjoyed the dub more. I feel the same way about YYH, Gundam Wing, Slayers, and FMA. Just about everything else I watch subbed. Getting used to the original voices for Super has been an adjustment, I tell you!

The one thing I can say about the Japanese audio in Super is that Goku sounds like way more of a dumbass there and it is hilarious.

Goku sounds like a hyper twelve year old on crack. It's basically the worst thing about the Japanese dub.

I think this was a real debate back when the funimation crew had lots of awkward shit going on, but they tightened up in recent years. Kai, BoG and RF are exponentially better in english. It's not even close.

I gotta prefer the English dub for most of the recent material starting with Kai.

Now that Funimation has accurate scripts and quality VAs, there's little reason for me to go for the Japanese sub other than to watch stuff that hasn't been dubbed yet.

Nah I watched the first half of Battle of Gods in English and had to stop. It was really bad. ): Super bad. ):

What is wrong with the dub? I thought the common opinion was that Kai/BOG/ROF have good castings and good quality overall. I especially like Beerus and Whis' voice actors. They really suit them.

Schemmel doesn't do a bad job or anything, I just thing Nozawa is a better voice actor.

That's fair enough. I personally much prefer the dub version but I'm perfectly fine watching Super at the moment and the Japan VA doesn't put me off at all. I'm just surprised someone would consider the English dub as "bad" or so bad that they'd stop watching BOG lol.
