Stickin' by it.

People have already explained it to you here but if you paid attention the build-up is definitely there and it was there during the Resurrection F arc.

If they were just "leading fans on" as you say then why change those events from the movie? They did it for a reason which was clear at the end of episode 27.

Now fast forward to episode 30. Gohan wants to go to the tournament. He reveals to Goku his motives for wanting to get stronger again and he says fighting against the 6th Universe fighters would be a good opportunity. However, upon hearing the day of the event he panics and remembers his conference is that day and specifically says it'd be bad if he missed out on that but he really wants to see the results of his training.

Just because he's being responsible and holding to a previous commitment doesn't mean it's a joke. I wouldn't even say they stuck to the manga because the manga left it vague while the anime has shown Gohan's actually getting character development and that's why there's reason to be excited about it.

Dragon Ball is stupid but not that stupid. Not even GT was that stupid.

Also dragon again?

I am laughing my ass off @ all these Gohan supporters. He still won't do shit.

Give me the worst avatar ever if he should win a real fight in this series.

Most of his supporters just want him to be relevant again. He doesn't have to necessarily win a "real fight" - whatever that means - to do so.

I'm rewatching tonight with better subs..... the one's I got were so bad.
I'm glad were are finally going to see the U6 fighters on screen, coolio.

A friend of mine is trying to tell me that the Vegeta part of this GIF is terrible animation.

He got mad when I was telling him it wasn't.

Why does Vegeta fly off?

Maybe Piccolo has been secretly spawning demons, training them and then refusing with them for boosts all these years.

It worked for Piccolo Jr and kamisama whose fusion is stronger than nameless namekian.

I hope the two low key episodes mean the animation quality will be upped for the tournament...

Seeing more couple-ey moments between Vegeta and Bulma is interesting because it was hard to ever imagine him as a husband before.

So many boob jokes, and boob sagging/shrinking...Making up for this?

The main issue is weakened Gohan (without SSJ) >>> Piccolo during the Tagoma battle. That suggests that Piccolo really wasn't any significantly stronger than before either.

Maybe he hasn't re-fused yet and in the 8 months he called in back all the spawns.

Then Piccolo wtfpwns the saiyans and restarts his world domination plans.

Since universe 6 has the same races and planets as universe 7, they could easily have Piccolo learning a new namekian transformation or ascension of power to put him on a respectable level. I'm almost certain that
Goku & Vegeta will go further than SSB thanks to what they learn from planet salad

Universe 6 Piccolo fused with Kami and Nail, fused with Universe 7 Piccolo fused with Kami and Nail...I wonder if that would be enough to not make the non-saiyan characters so goddamn irrelevant.

Well, U6 does have Namekians, and they even did the same thing with the Dragon Balls, so maybe Piccolo can go fuse with his alternate self or something.

I kinda hope we see them at some point and they're blue or red or something. Or all appear female.

If Piccolo were to come back I'd hope it wouldn't be with the use of fusion. Gotta give him another avenue other than consuming other nameks.

He couldn't even give Dabura a good fight, and Dabura gave 'weaker from lack of training' Gohan a decent fight.

If anything Piccolo got weaker.

Not even making Tagoma flinch, please.

Cell and the Androids wouldn't be that pathetic .

B-b-but, he's been training!

*looks at Tien*

Yeah. You're probably right. -_-

Goddammit, Toriyama.

He seems to be in a better position than what we got in GT at least?

True. Maybe he can get a good fight in at some point.

As much as I hated GT I remember it had my attention for a second when it looked like Piccolo would face off with possessed Gohan and then......

lol nope

1. I thought you could go in the Room of Spirit and Time once.

2. Krillen and gohan should have went to outer space with bulma just like old times!

1. From what I understand, you could only be in the chamber for a total of 48 hours life-long. Stay any longer and the door disappeared. I think Dende must of removed these limitations when he restored the thing.

2. I don't give a fuck what Krillin does in all honesty lol. He's just not doing anything for me in Super so far. His best moment IMO was when he was frozen with PTSD, that actually felt interesting. I would care more about 18 potentially doing work. Send her to space. Gohan should prioritize his training, and I don't have a huge problem with him trying to stay up on his career.

They really should have had Freeza taking more cheap shots at Krillin as a gag. Like mid-way golden freeza fight: blam! Exploding varment! Ha!

oh well, he's dead now. Not Krillin. But on another note: did the sub get it right to say that the creation of the SDB is in age 41? And that comment about patent...
Also, a god of dragons creates balls that summon... that same god! Okay so, are they wishing orbs or summoning orbs? And more importantly, if Namek descends from a fucking dragon, does that mean Piccollo is a yoshi? That last one is really important, obviously.

I'm surprised they showed the universe 6 fighters already in the preview, blue freeza with his back turned even. Oh no, another one! And he's so blue! Too bad Ginyu is already dead.

Animation seems normal in these latest episodes btw. Wonder if they really just cheapskated the earlier ones. :\

I can't recall how long it lasted before but in Kai Gohan's advantage against Buu last a single episode, Super Buu is smart enough to absorb Gotenks in SSJ3 and ol green bean and once that happens it's ass whuppin time on Gohan. If you hate Gohan this is the episode for you since Buu smack talks him while smacking him around, saying what a disappointment Gohan is and everything. If you ever had a disappointed father saying how crummy his son was this episode is essentially that.

But hey Goku's back and he managed to get a blast to connect with Super buu, which was more than what Gohan could do at that point. Plus hey Vegeta coming back too.

It really feels noticeable how everything is basically changed up. Pretty much a straight up U turn.

Nah, I honestly think it's going nowhere. They probably changed the events from the movie because people whined about Gohan being under-utilised - like there was whining when Gohan turned Super Saiyan in BoG when technically he probably shouldn't have so they changed it for Super but really Toriyama probably doesn't care for that kind of detail anymore.

I just don't see a point in getting your hopes up. Feels like jumping the gun - I mean he hasn't really done anything yet. He's just "training". Kind of like how Tien is "training" and Piccolo is "training". He's been allocated to the background cast of "training" characters, that's how I see it.

That shot to me was like "oh shit, how do we draw breasts?" and this was the result.

Do we know how big Toriyama's involvement in this actually is? Like, did he write every single line or did he just write the major events? A lot of the lines are almost exactly the same as the manga, so I'm assuming that's all based on his script? I honestly have no idea how this stuff works.

in response to number 1

it doesn't even matter anymore
super saiyan 3 gotenks can rip a hole out into reality. ssb vegeta/goku wouldn't even sweat making a new "door"

Yeah, I really want Piccolo to get a massive power boost.

The Piccolo vs Frieza fight was so badass after his fusion with Nail. I want more of that.

Gohan going to be the protector of Earth in U6 while his dad is out playing in the universe. Important fights going on in two different places would be amazing and it would keep it from becoming the Goku & Vegeta-show.

Although I really, really like Vegeta in Super. Best character.

I have achieved the ultimate powerrr!!!!!
*gets completely owned a few eps later*

He wrote a story outline, and made some character designs, not the actual episode scripts.

The manga is based on that outline too, which is why some lines are the same in both (which means that the line came from Toriyama's outline, not the anime's or manga's writers), but it doesn't have access to final anime materials, which is why details like location design often ends up different in the manga and anime, even when they're going for similar designs (like how both versions of Zuno's castle are similar to Ancient Japan, but the actual details are different, like the manga having floating islands and castles).

We also really don't know what participation, if any, Toriyama had regarding the movie remakes. There was a post made by the new main script writer of the anime for the Champa arc (King Ryo) where he mentioned that the previous two arcs were based on the movies, while for this upcoming arc the story and characters come from Toriyama... which would imply that only now his outline is coming into play.

So basically everything that's the same in both the anime and the manga are directly from Toriyama? Like, the joke about Goku and Vegeta's wives is from Toriyama, but the part with Jaco arresting the frog guy isn't? I mean, I guess it's possible they intentionally left something out of the manga. That's what makes it confusing.

In the end it doesn't really matter, but it'd just be nice to know which of the cool bits are actually his.

Due to the manga being monthly, it's possible that it has to skip or shorten some of Toriyama's outline. For example, the manga had two lines that reference Bulma's conversation with Beerus where she worries about him wishing to destroy the universe, and that conversation wasn't in the manga. Those lines ended up being identical to anime lines too (First one is one where Bulma worries about Beerus doing something bad with the wish, the 2nd one is the surprise at there being only 7 Super Dragonballs for both universes, while the manga skipped the bit where they initially think that there could be 7 SDBs in each universe). So, that earlier conversation probably was part of Toriyama's outline, even though the manga had to skip it. Although in general, the only stuff that we can be completely sure that came from Toriyama's outline is the content that's identical in both anime and manga.

I'm more inclined to believe after the considerable foreshadowing that also took place during the Resurrection F arc. Some people doubted it then but they were wrong. Anything can happen at this point, but for anyone paying attention it's hard to ignore the development that is actually there.

"I want to train now because I suck" but then like not actually having any plot significance isn't actually doing anything. If anything, he just took Piccolo's place as a background character. It's like the most insignificant amount of development for him - and it's gonna stay insignificant if the Earth doesn't come under danger anyway.

What you call "considerable foreshadowing" I call "nothing". lol. Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of the character at all and thus aren't even holding out for him to do anything. He's just following the pattern of other characters who used to be significant as far as I'm concerned.

It'd be hilarious if Tenshinhan actually stepped up as the 5th fighter and managed to do anything at all.

People like Piccolo and Tenshinhan never stopped training, but due to their plot irrelevancy their training is basically nothing. You don't see them talking about it, discussing their motivations or even actually training on screen. Then they go out of their way to show Gohan training with Piccolo.

Also, note how they've brought up again how Gohan has the highest potential after saying nothing about it in BoGs or even the RoF itself. In fact, BoGs originally had Beerus and Whis commenting on Goku's and Vegeta's potential, while nothing was said about Gohan. Dragonball generally just makes sidelined characters feel more generic, rather than highlighting what's unique about them, at least as far as battles go.
