Dragon Quest 11 (JP) |OT| whynotboth.gif

I had both the Hero and
Grieg
using 2H in my main party and was doing over 1k non-buffed damage per 全身全霊斬り towards the end of the game, so yeah I second you, 2H definitely didn't suck!

I had Hero on 1H swords and
Grieg
with 2H. I found that offered the best variety and provided ample firepower for the boss fights.

I had each character specialize in a different weapon, as I didn't want any duplicates. For the other characters I did Camus=boomerangs, Martina=spears, Rou=claws, Senya=sticks, Veronica=staffs, Sylvia=whips

I'm getting in about 2 hours a day on the train. Amazing how much I get sucked into the world when playing.

For Streetpass just, I just beat
Dragon Quest V forest
. Was easy on the levels I was on. I continued the street pass mini game to receive scrolls for
Dragon Quest IV and Dragon Quest X
. I think I've now visited all the games. The Streetpass game is quite easy now because the Yotchis I street pass are all super strong.

In the story I got to the area with
the medal academy and the DQVIII music village (forget the name)
. I went to the harder area first, and did the boss with forgetting to go to the inn, and died. I then did the easier area, and am now probably going to look at skill points (for some characters I haven't touched them), and equipment I can create. I think I still have Martina in a bunny suit due to a quest a while back.

When exploring the sea, I noticed that for some reason it takes a long time to go from the bottom of the screen to the top (and I'm assuming vice versa). My icon on the map wasn't moving for a long time, and the frequency of battles seemed to increase. I suppose it's on purpose, but it seemed weird.

I'm avoiding most other posts in this game, as I'm worried about people being too liberal with what they can say about post-game stuff without spoilers.

What it boils down to is that if you don't finish the post game you haven't finished DQXI.
The story continues and reaches in conclusion after the final battle in the post game.

The credits are basically just there as something of a fake out.

You haven't actually beaten the game.

I'm fully aware that story wise I'm not really done, both from the game and from posts in this thread. But I figure it's a good place to maybe stop and come back to.

Well, this might explain my hubs getting really upset at the
Greig
part: He's now got a really bad cold. :( No DQ11 for us until he's better.

I had the hero using a one hand sword and I don't know, he was my shittiest character. He was easily doing the least damage to the final boss. Kind of seems like a jack of all trades kind of guy, wish he was stronger.

Ok I really, really, really, really think I just can't beat this boss fight at the current state I am.
I mean i tried more than 20 times already and my main party is getting killed in just 2-3 rounds.I don''t have time to use any buffs and even if I do he just turns meinto gold and kills the others.Keep in mind that the maximum damage i can do to the one on the right is 400-450 without buffs and maybe 600 with attack buffs.I can sometimes make his HP yellow but nothing more than that.
Level 56 with Hero btw and level 54-55 with the others.
I don't know maybe I have bad equipment?
I have to do something about either my equipment or my levels, because there is no way in hell I can beat this thing.
Any good place or technique on how to level up quickly?
I will also post a picture of my equipment, maybe some recommendations would
Sorry that I put out some kind of frustration, guys but it's just that this boss is really getting on my nerves at the moment

In my opinion, your level is kind of low. No idea on what equipment you have.
Honestly I think if those bosses are giving you trouble the last boss will slaughter you, so you may as well level up.
Best way to grind is metal slimes. You'll be gaining levels non stop.
I'll spoil the method because why not, but I'm sure it's already been posted:
Have your party consist of Hero, Martina, Camyu, and Silbia (no idea what the correct romanisation of their names are, sorry).
In the Hero trial, one of the outside areas (I think it is the 3rd floor, you go through a portal or something) there are these flame guys. They have weak AOE attacks that they use on your party. Fight them, destroy the non flame dudes if they show up, then just keep guarding and healing.
It shouldn't take too long to get your characters into the zone state. Once Camyu, Hero, and Martina are in the zone, use super roulette. It will increase the XP you get greatly.
After you use super roulette, switch Silbia out once he is in trance (I recommend for Rou to get him in trance too), and then keep guarding again until Martina is in a trance again. The hero has a move that gets him into trance immediately assuming you have got it on the skill tree. So once Martina is in trance, bring Silbia back in, and use Spectacle Show which requires the Hero, Martina, and Silbia. This will result in the enemies becoming either metal slimes, or shitty robots. If you get the slimes, you want Camyu and Martina to use their guaranteed critical attacks, and if you can get Rou back in and he is in trance, use the lullaby which puts the slimes to sleep. Don't bother attacking the slimes with anything other than crits as it is a waste of time. After you kill the slimes you will get mad XP. example of mad XP
If you got the robots instead just try again.
Once you hit level 70, the metal slimes will show up with a metal slime king. Super Roulette guarantees you an item drop, and the item that the metal slime king drops is an item that puts your party members into the Zone, making the whole process faster.
It's not exactly an exciting grinding process, but it is pretty fast. I went from level 60~ to 99 in like less than 4 hours.

Yeah by mid-game my husband had him switched out of the party basically all the time unless he needed to use a renkei with him.

1HS Hero was not half bad for me, especially for regular enemies, but I mostly used used Gigaslash etc. with him. Wish I switched to 2HS for even more damage though.

For those that beat it, how many mini metals are in the game?
Medals right? Inifinte since there are at least one shiny spot that gives you one all the time while certain enemies will also drop mini medals. You only need 110 to complete all four medal stamp books though. You can use the leftover medals to trade materials for forging and so on.

1h hero can do ok damage, but you need dual wield and sword dance (or ultima sword). Then his output is pretty decent.

There are also more than 110 mini-medals outside of the unlimited ones you can get. I think I had like 70 when I completed the main game but considering the second prize card requires 75 there's probably 75 in the main game and I missed like 5 or so.

Is there a reason for this? Like which guide is better technically? Do both guides contain an easy to use glossary for the beastiary say if I wanted to check who drops what and whether it's common or rare? Right now, the site Hasemo linked me to (game8.jp/dq11) is OUTSTANDING! but maybe I don't want to have tabs open. Maybe I just want to look in my guide book and check stuff you know?

I ordered both and they came in today. The guides are equivalent. They cover exactly the same stuff + the exclusive stuff in each version. The maps are different for each version, and the screenshots used are different, but they're at parity in terms of what they cover: absolutely everything.

And yes, there's a bestiary.

Just got the game and I loving it so far! There are two side quests I'm hoping to complete but am unsure of what to do.

In Delcada, there's a man standing by the staircase to the luxury part of town.

And the male warrior standing outside the church on the outskirts of Delcada
after the Hero and Camus jump from the cliff
.

PS4 is the version of the game I have, doubtful I'll get the game on 3DS. Maybe switch.

I'm not the hugest fan of crafting in games and would rather have something beside me to flip through when need to find something. spwiki also doesn't have as many pretty pictures.

IIRC the man in town wants you to find a particular book on a shelf on the eastern side of town. The warrior by the church wants you to use MC+Camus first れんけい Shadow Attack and kill a monster.

Gamekult gave the game a 7/10 for both version. Not a bad score but for me this game is a GOTY contender so...they didn't like the score, lack of voice acting, the fact it is way too easy, the fake open world, post game and the recycling (they compare it to Bravely Default...whaaaaat?!). They praise the graphics, story, cast, yocchi...the review is well written and interesting but I strongly disagree with some of their cons, especially Voice acting and "recycling" and fragmented open world.

Famitsu gave it a 40/40, I trust them and maybe that's because I like Dragon Quest so I'm biased.

I would like to think in 2017 there would be some understanding that open world is not something every game should aspire to.

This game is not open world nor does it pretend to be.

Breh... you do know they pretty much score games based on how much advertising money companies give them?

Websites really, really, really need to get over their "All games need voice acting or we're marking it as a negative and deducting points" thing.

Honestly, "advertising money given to Famitsu" is a better metric than most websites use.

Where do I grind for skill seeds?

yugnoa camp talk to the cow and get rain to trigger. The gold statues that will spawn around the ruins outside the castle will drop skill seeds as a rare drop. The most efficient strategy is stacking lots of item drop + accessories and clothes and kill all single gold statues and if you get a double gold statue fight you get Kamyue, Prota and Martina into Zone for the roulette skill to assure 100% rare drops netting 2 seeds.
It still takes a while.

Some super spoiler questions following the story info dump that occurs after Martina and Rowe join your party:
-Martina's mother - I think I remember Martina saying something along the lines of "she died when I was little" but is it stated/implied that she died during the events 16 years ago, or prior to that?
-After that I am led to believe she traveled with Rowe until the present - did the king of Delucadale (sp) just refuse to let her come back and Rowe raised her instead? I guess because of whatever dark power was influencing him?
Other than that, I'm in the Casino for the first time. The slots remind me of these Lord of the Rings machines I played last time I was in Vegas, and similar to those all these crazy things seem to be happening outside of my control but I keep winning money so I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I went from 100 coins to 500+ for the quest item I needed in <100 pulls.

Also, overnight it seems crafting has gone from "going through the motions *boom* +3" to failure after failure after some attempts to make some new appearance-changing armor recipes I've come across. I still manage to get the equipment it seems, just I guess it is at +0 stats. I guess as the story moves along and I have more concentration to work with (and more crafting techniques) that these will become easier.

1. Prior to that was my understanding. Her mother died and then the queen took to her. Then the shit hit the fan later.

2. That's my understanding. The king is a dick and you find out why later on.

Okay, initially I was thinking the reason the king of Delucadale was so anti-MC was due to a vendetta over everything that went down 16 years ago and his wife+daughter, but then they started talking about the outside influences, thanks.

Edit: just beat DQ1 on my phone, on to DQ2 I guess :p

Breh... you do know they pretty much score games based on how much advertising money companies give them?

Maybe 10/10 is too high but a 7/10 (by American grade standards, a 70/100 is a D and this game is NOT a D) for this game is a downright insult especially from a place that has no real credibility or does it? I mean how many here have really heard of Gamekult anyway?

Holundrian - Thank you very much.

Edit: Disregard my PM to you Holundrian I was a bit confused.

I am a little lost with the surechigai stuff. Im at the angel tower from dqix. Izayarl needs me to find a goddess fruit.

Can't figure out where to go

Everything gets explained in time, there are no real loose ends story wise.

After 38 hours with the 3DS version I've decided to jump into the PS4 version. Already bought the game from the Japanese PSN store, but somehow I always get an error when I try to download it. Already tried restoring licenses, didn't help. Any other idea?

Edit: God, I'm so dumb. Didn't have enough space apparently although I had like 60GB of free space

found this fan-translated story-guide on the dragon quest subreddit...

http://www.sleepy-racoon.de/translation-guides/dragon-quest-xi/

DISCLAIMER: this guide is nothing more than a private way of studying japanese. it is no professional translation. none of the names are official. none of the maps are from any official source. everything found here was transferred over from the game by me. i do not want to make any money out of it! it's just that, instead of looking at the book in my bookshelf, i decided to share it. simply to spread my love for DRAGON QUEST and offer a little help to people who, like me, are trying to learn japanese to play gems like this game in their original language.

source

Any time I hear "Don't import." I am going to do it tenfold and keep in mind I am someone who tries to buy American whenever possible.

Dragon Quest is a clear exception to this rule and while I do not have a collection of merchandise, I will buy it the moment it is available in Japan and not hope for the USA to get it.

Ok, I've finally beaten all the bosses　(even the extra ones) except the one that needs the
dein
spell, done all of the sidequests and I'm preparing myself for the true final battle.

I have some questions though.
First of all story wise,
what was exactly Nelsen trials?
I mean I get it that you beat his trials and he grants you wishes but what was exactly this place that you went into?
Secondly,
after finishing the third trial(I'm still seeing nightmares from this fight) and picking one of the wishes I still have 2 left because I think they were 5 of them in total.
Can I get those wishes too?
One of them particularly was to marry Emma.Is this how you can marry her?
Or you must do something else first?Because at first I thought that marrying Emma was
an unmissable story moment

Up to the final dungeon in the main game. Beat the guy at the entrance last night before bed. I'm a little jealous of everyone who's been having an easy time of things. I think my main failing is relying too much on the pre-set tactics and not micromanaging turns. I managed to get him on the second go around by buffing a lot more than the computer would have.

I've also not managed to get any unique cosmetic items for characters yet, I haven't been doing many of the quests and so may be lacking the materials and recipes needed to make them. Some of the costumes look really great from what I've seen on Twitter and other places. Hopefully, I can get 'em when the game releases in English. My Japanese is quite limited and I've really just been brute forcing it through a lot of the game. Mind you, it's been very enjoyable. I like DQ so much that I can get by with the visuals and music and what not.

I think I've the gist of what's going on anyhow. That site that's linked above has some nice drawings of events and locations in the game.

Damn, regarding the playable characters, I can't believe
Veronica is dead
:-(

This is so sad ! Is there any way to
revive her ?

This has to be the most emotional DQ with 5. So many touching moments, sad or just heartwarming. In that regard, I was really moved by Sylvia reuniting with his
father
. The subtext was quite obvious and it really added to the character.

If you return to Nelsen at the end of the 勇者の試練, you'll gain access to a fourth boss that will unlock the fourth wish, and then a fifth one for the final wish. These monsters are considerably harder than the third one; I could take down the third boss(es) in 23 of the 40 allowed turns, but hardly managed to scratch the fourth one. You can marry Emma after you 1) have finished rebuilding イシの村 and 2) wish so at Nelsen's.

I got busy and never finished this, lol. Got some free time and now I'm at the final boss of the postgame.

I decided to go for level 99 because I wanted to max out the skill panels, but it turns out you stop getting points at around 97 so I'm left with characters who'll need 20-30 more points for their last panel. It kinda killed my interest in leveling further and I don't feel like farming Skill Seeds, so I guess that's that. :/

Speaking of that, I wish some characters had more multi/all-target moves. Two characters are really good for bosses because of their great single target attacks, so they got a lot of mileage with the endgame/postgame stuff as there's a lot of bosses and fights you have to finish quickly, but prior to that I didn't really like using them.

There's been no info at all other than the concert back on August 9th where they played all of the DQ11 stuff. If it follows previous patterns then it should probably come out in December.
