Dragon Quest Builders 2 announced for PS4/Switch, has multiplayer

I'd love to see same-screen co-op, as that was the first game's limiting factor for me (and especially my daughter). Portal Knights made an acceptable compromise between Minecraft and DQ Builders, but it lacks the story mode and actual drive that made Builders fun.

And more stuff to build/equip. The first game got more than a bit repetitive by the last chapter (even if that was the only one to finally drop the tutorial gloves).

I was waiting for this to happen, but I didn't expect it to be so soon. I'm still not done with the original builders (I think I'm on world 3/4), but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really hope they can work out the quirks and deliver a smoother experience. With maybe bigger blocks and slightly smaller characters to help with camera woes.

Edit: underwater exploration!?

YES! Actually surprised it's not 1&2 on Switch like Heroes. The 1st was on Sony's Phyre Engine right? Might be why...

PlayStation exclusivity isn't a stipulation of using PhyreEngine. The whole point of it was to create an engine that could easily port from other systems to PS3 to appeal to lower-budget devs that were focused on X360/PC due to the PS3's... Issues.

Falcom's been using PhyreEngine for their HD titles, and all of them are getting PC ports. And there's quite a few games on Xbone using PhyreEngine.

...inb4 Dark Souls citogenesis

Why wouldn't it? PhyreEngine is multiplatform.

Well for one it's a Sony engine. I believe it's free if you support only Sony platforms but there will be costs if it goes multi platform.

The other one is that I don't think it supports Switch yet (not sure, I might be wrong). It only supports PS platforms, PC, and mobile,

YES

I bought the first one on Vita because I knew I'd play it more on a portable but wished I could play it on the TV too sometimes. PROBLEM SOLVED

I... Thought this already was announced, multiplayer and everything, but maybe I was remembering the Heroes 2 prerelease stuff.
Either way, good news!

I completely rolled my eyes at DQB when it was announced but after hearing 8-4's impressions I'm much more interested. So this will definitely be on my radar. Sounds like it would be a nice portable title.

Felt burned by the first one as I was let down by the depth of the building/town mechanics. Was very surface-level stuff to me, so hopefully the mechanics go a bit deeper this time.

It looks like they added a good amount of improvements! Gliding will give it a more adventure like feel, which is great. Can't wait to hear more. Are we looking at a 6 month delay for NA though?? Unfortunate.

I'm super excited. DQB was my GotY for 2016, so I can't wait for a sequel that builds on it. The RAM limitations of the PS3 and Vita probably limited the first game's ambition, so I am curious to see what a sequel built for PS4/Switch will be like.

I'm hoping for bigger towns with more residents, at least.

It never officially supporting any Xbox or Nintendo systems, porting it over to them is on the dev/pub. Those costs and any licensing costs may cost a bit more but it'll still be much cheaper than basically starting from scratch on a different engine.

Vita spirit lives within the Switch

PS4 gets more visual novels than Switch tho.

Looking forward to this, I played a bit of the first game on the Vita but it was only the demo. After hearing how well it was recieved, this looks like a good follow-up.

Oh shit, I was just thinking of buying the first one again since I got a PS4 (played on vita) but I'll wait and grab this on Switch! Is there a date? I just see sale dates for the first game
