Dragon Quest Heroes - Overview Trailer.

Definitely picking this up but I'm worried it won't compare to Hyrule Warriors. That game is bursting with content and has kept me happy for a veeeeeery long time. I'm hoping Heroes has that sort of lasting appeal.

Going into a game like that will just lead to disappointment

The trailer talks about putting together a party of 4 before each fight that plays into the strategy.
Early in the game you get an airship that acts as the main hub. In the main hub there is a tavern that you can go to and switch out your characters.

Some story missions require you put specific people in your party.

This game has a lot of content plus the game ships with all the DLC that was added over the past few months to the JP version. The game is also a fun platinum which will add plenty of you decide to go for it.

Thanks for the clarification! I think it's cool that you get to pick

Wow, I normally hate dubs but this one sounds pretty great. I'm impressed! It's not terribly surprising, considering how nice DQ VIII's was as well, but still.

I almost pre-ordered the CE many months back, but considering it's nearly triple the cost of what I'm getting the standard edition for [E3 promo deal for 30% off], I decided to pass. I hope the DQ III DLC from the SE store makes its way to the PS Store eventually, I'd like to have it.

Good to know, thanks! I actually had forgotten this includes all the DLC.

I read this game is close to Trinity: Souls of Zill'O'll in terms of gameplay but it has a lot of tower defense stuff that might turn some off. Do you go to different areas and do things there or is just straight select area kill 1000 enemies rinse repeat? I'm buying it either way :p.

Part of me wants to get it JUST to get those collectibles and support the series (don't even have a PS4)

But part of me wants to wait until the sequel with multiplayer and more characters is out and/or some vague hope that a Wii U/NX port might be possible.

What do?

What can i expect from the combat system? Deep and rewarding? Button smashing?

The combat had some depth to it and it also has some button mashing. You have 4 players in your party and you can switch between them on the fly.

Each has a meter that goes up as you fight letting you perform a special which does large damage. It works well and brings a bit more strategy with it and when the fighting gets tough knowing how to balance the use of your characters is needed.

The gameplay also has a tower defense aspect to it as your able to collect monster coins after defeating enemies and Once you clear out and area or if you're tasked with defending an area you can summon monster allies and place them wherever you want and they will fight in those areas.

This plays a huge part in the strategy because you'll be able to teleport all over the map to defend and take over certain points so using them effectively helps you when you can't be everywhere at once.

There is also variations in tower defence missions such as portals that constantly spawn enemies until defeated and the only way to prevent them from getting is by closing and opening gates forcing choke points it's all pretty interesting and fun.

The game has rpg elements like leveling and alchemy to craft new items for you to use. It has a nice blanance and at first it's a bit madhu but as it goes on simply charging your way in will get you killed.

Wish this would come to pc.
I mean I own a PS4, but the horrible controller quality makes me wary of buying many games for it.
Squeenix is a bit weird when it comes to which games they bother to release on pc.
Tecmo Koei at least seems to spit out their musou games on steam quite a lot.

I'm a huge DQ fan. Been for most my life.

Curious -- Did this review well in Japan?

Weird reason to not buy PS4 games. I have three DS4s and only the launch one is a bit worn in, but it's still quite usable. The two I got later are perfect.

Worthwhile content would be my concern.

I loved Hyrule Warriors, but completing those map stages, loading for over a minute to run a mission that takes 20 seconds got old.

I don't know about Hyrule Warriors. But I haven't had to deal with over a minute loading time in any of the Musou games on the PS4.

Some of my main complaints with HW were performance/jankiness related. If DQH on PS4 is 60 fps then I'm in for a treat, because DQ is one of my favorite franchises of all time, and DQ8 in particular one of my favorite games of all time.

Just take a look around here on neogaf and you'll see there is a real problem with the quality of the controllers, both the sticks and the R triggers have a widespread problem. I've lost count of how many threads there are about it by now.

My R2 trigger is showing noticeable wear after only a little use and no I'm not just rough on my controller. I've still got my launch sixaxis working pretty much just as new after almost 9 years.

Anyways, not wanting to start a derail here, I just hope DQ Heroes will find it's way to PC too.

I'm playing through now, a few hours in. It's pretty repetitive, I think the combat is OK but it's not as deep as what I played in Hyrule Warriors (the moveset seems very limited), the tower defence stages are really annoying, and ironically I probably would have liked Musou-like stages more than anything I've seen so far.

It's alright, but I don't think it's going to set the world on fire. It might review better than traditional omega-force games at least.

Ah that's pretty disappointing.

wow, didn't realize the RPG and strategy was so heavy, definitely just a Musou in combat alone. Was going to wait, but think I'll day one this! Kinda in love right now with the art direction and the swapping party members.

You're in for a treat then. It's 60 FPS and barely has any performance issues base on Japanese import reviews.

I can't wait for this game. I love Dragon Quest series and I am excited it's back on console.

I love the voice acting in this game. It's so cheesy it's amazing. Some voice work at 6.20 in the video.

It you like the Japanese one more you can change it as any time.

Do we know if the sequel has online ?

I heard multiplayer but is it split screen or online ? ^^

I think i'll pass on this one and import the second one.

The trophies have a nice balance. There are a few grindy ones but once you get to the point of finding King Metal Slimes it's not so bad.

There is other stuff like defeating all the hard mode bosses which is a lot of fun (the secret one is a tough fight),some for defeating all the monster types and getting their coins, side missions, crafting items and a few others.

You'll unlock most as you playthrough the game keeping a good pace and keeping anything tedious to only a small grind.

I could honestly go on about this game for ages lol easily my game of the year.

Guys which one is the best musou game?

This or the One Piece?

I like the OP IP more, but DQ Heroes seems to be the better game...

I don't know which one to buy...

Nope.

Most people here don't know what musou is. It's more than just having hundreds of enemies on screen. Musou as a genre means you and your army trying to capture enemy territories and beating the enemy commander. This game has none of that. The developers have explained this too. It's not a musou, but in terms of combat it's very, very similar for sure.

Thank you! A lot of people in this thread (and in general) don't actually understand what constitutes a musou game.

Honestly if your really big into one piece you should probably just go with that one. They both have good reviews but it really is all about the fan service with both.

All Musou games are heavy on content.

Not all. Most, yes. They've been better in recent years, but the first Fist of the North Star game and the first One Piece game were way more repetitive and light on content and were a lot better about it in the sequels.

I'm still in the place where it's worth investigating each game on a case-by-case basis.
