Dragon Quest Heroes (Square Enix/Omega Force, action rpg) announced for PS3/PS4, 2015

This. Why people are still clamoring for DQXI to be on 3DS is beyond me. Do they really prefer those shitty bobblehead graphics to what was shown in that trailer?

THIS!!!. Handhelds have held hostage game series that would have otherwise flourished to full potential on consoles. Monster Hunter nowadays doesn't look much better than the PS2 original for fucks sake.

Do you think these companies are made of money? Developing these games at full console quality would be way more expensive, to the point some of these games wouldn't even exist if they weren't on portables.

Oh please! I'd rather them not bother then. DQIX was a HUGE step back from DQVIII.

When people are talking about Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter, yeah, the companies involved are definitely made of money. Lol.

wait they snuck in the PS3 shit, that means the next DQ is also cross gen damn son

If it results in a game in similar scope like DQ VIII in terms of world size and visual quality, would you really complain?

I mean it's not like Toriyama's art style required demanding hardware to achieve a 1:1 ratio of accuracy with the drawn or animated material.

Even IF DQXI is cross gen, if it's anything like DQ VIII or an improvement to that formula, it really can't do any wrong.

This is even more likely considering Yuji Horii's desire for the next mainline DQ game to return to the big screen.

DQXI being JUST a PS4 exclusive wouldn't work, especially since the game generally caters to the Japanese fanbase first, and then there is generally the trend that each main DQ game usually releases on the platform with largest install base (PS3 + PS4 is far more likely in this regard over anything else that isn't mobile), a mainline PS4 exclusive DQ title wouldn't move enough units to cover the costs of developing for it, however it's far more likely a PS4 + PS3 title would.

While I'd like the game to take full advantage of the PS4 hardware, it just isn't a realistic scenario unless userbase for the PS4 grows enough to a point in Japan it's economically viable for SE to give the okay to such a decision, with the effect of it selling enough copies to warrant the effort of actually developing it on the PS4 exclusively to begin with.

Well they have to make the game for platforms people in Japan actually care about and will make them the most money lol.

Agreed, I don't mind portables, but I'd like to see some of these come back to console.

DQXI will not be on 3DS, by the time and if it ever comes out 3DS would have been replaced by its successor.

Nah, DQXI will be on the N3DS, as a N3DS exclusive. It's not that far out from release I don't believe? DQ7's 5 year development cycle was a huge anomaly.

That would go against the idea of Horii saying he wants to play the next DQ installment on a big screen. I think Horii has enough influence over the franchise to get what he wants.

Dragon Warriors :p

(Rattle yer zimmer frames if you got that.)

And yet another reason to stick with my trusty PS3 for another year. Seriously, they should have made the game PS4 exclusive to drive hardware sales. Of course, it saves me money in the medium term, so I'm not complaining.

Trinity was SO GOOD. It was a shame that sold so poorly :(
I managed to score a pre-owned copy of Trinity for £1 awhile back. I can quite honestly say that it was one of the best bargains i have ever bought. Such an underrated gem.

How did they not call it

I have a pretty good feeling that this one will have a little bit more rpg element than the usual musou game. Koei may have make a shit ton of licensed musou games, but from a few that I play, I think they do genuinely try to make them feel a bit different from each licenses and add a little unique flavor from the licenses.

This being a dragon quest game, I think it will have something unique from the series. From the trailer, I think we can assume it will have good variety of enemies and big giant bosses.

I hope character level will be more important though, maybe let you customize your character, like picking what skill or musou to bring to battle. This games seems to focus on original character rather than character from previous dragon quest.

Could be cool if they let you to build your character just like in dragon quest rpg

Yeah but series like Ys kinda prove my point... if you look at the console version of the latest game it looks like the portable version. Saying portables are holding these games back is kinda silly...

I'm not into these "musou" games at all so I"ll continue to hope and pray a new DQ games in the style of the wonderful DQ8 is released on the PS4/Xbox One. I haven't play a jrpg like that in a long time.

God damn.
Tecmo/KOEI/Omega Force puttin' in work this gen.
Might be some of the busiest mercenaries in the industry right now.

I have a soft spot for Musou, so I'm all over this.

I'm not into Musou games either, but I'd buy this day one if it was localized.

Ys is not a multimillion selling series from a huge corporation. It's the opposite of that.

The latest Ys is a PS4/Vita multi-platform title. Perhaps that's why the PS4 version look like a portable game? Besides, Nihon Falcom is a small company and they aren't the best when it comes to graphics.

SE probably won't. The only chance we'll get this is if Koei Tecmo localizes it.

Koei Tecmo has been quite good with localizations in the recent times so localization prospects shouldn't be too bad. Language barrier in a Musou game shouldn't be too high so in the worst case people could import I guess.

Though it is nice to Dragon Quest in HD, Dragon Quest Warriors doesn't appeal to me the same way that Zelda Warriors did. I'll probably pass on this and wait for DQ11.
