Dragon Quest Heroes (Square Enix/Omega Force, action rpg) announced for PS3/PS4, 2015

I've been trying to find more info on the special edition PS4. Is that Metal Babble a marketing gimmick or are we actually getting a figure that will perch atop our PS4s?

Not sure how similar this game will be to Trinity.

The whole idea behind that game was that there were three characters, and its design essentially revolved around them. They were pretty much on-screen at all times, had combination moves, differing abilities depending on who you swapped between, etc.

The trailer footage doesn't really show that.

It's possible that the four characters shown are the only ones that are playable, so it's more of a Trinity + 1. All of the other DQ characters are maybe assistants, NPCs, or whatever else. Would be frustrating for me if true. Alena is one of the main reasons I want to play DQ Heroes.

It's also likely that DQH has the core design of Trinity. I mean that there will be different areas to choose from, there will be towns where you can talk to people and buy stuff(but they can't be explored). There will be a greater emphasis on dungeon exploration, giant bosses, quests that can be accepted, etc.

This is really, really hard to believe. I think he's just being disingenuous. The Omega Force team are KT's musou specialists. Is there some kind of stigma to the musou genre the producer might be trying to skirt around?
Perhaps Omega Force is attempting to branch out. An action RPG is a possible next level extension from the games they make.

Looks pretty similar to Hyrule Warriors but I don't care. If it ever comes to NA and other english regions, consider me hyped as well. Art style looks really good! Graphics look to me look like what a Blue Dragon sequel would also look like.

Something about the few characters they showed and them not calling this a musou thinks this will essentially be a new Souls of Zill O'll

Least I hope so

It's possible. To be honest, at this point I am more excited about seeing an HD DQ game than I am about the gameplay of this particular HD DQ game. This game looks great and it makes me dream of the possibilities of future HD DQ games.

Its definitely a musou game, even if they are trying to say its not. They'll probably try to give it a lot of RPG elements, but in the end...

Don't care though, looks fun.

Right. The bundle is the biggest reason PS4 sales are going to increase tbh. I think Nightengale made a good point: 2015 will be a transitional period (lots of MP games and few exclusives) while 2016 will lean more to the latter.

Yeah, that should help as a bit of a start, having the ability to be able to make a bundle PS4 model for a DQ, even a spinoff one.

Agreed there. The main character designs are uniformly excellent. Numbered DQ caliber. A lot of people seem to be hating on this, I'm hyped.

Yeah, really like those designs a lot.

Wii U is also likely candidate for release.

I mean factoring the concept the mainline DQ titles generally is put on the biggest selling platform in Japan. Well currently the Wii U or PS3 are the only two consoles to fit the following criteria.

1) Is a number one selling platform in Japan

2) Is not a mobile or handheld device

Of the three current gen consoles PS4, XB1, and Wii U. Nintendo's console currently has that lead in Japan.

The PS3 would also suit this as it would basically be a last hurrah for the PS3 and fall on the same year as DQ's 30th anniversary and 10th year for the PS3 which Sony would be ending support on. (Sony usually supports it's console platforms for a 10 year period, at least they did this with the PSX and the PS2, the PS3 from 2006 to 2016 falls in line with this trend as well.)

Developing directly for the PS4 seems unlikely due to the small userbase in Japan, and unless the PS4 explodes in Japan with Persona 5, FF Type O, RE Rev2, Dragon Quest Heroes and all the other announced titles to make such a venture worth doing.

Even if it gets a PS3 release, cross-gen on the PS4 is hopeful. If it gets a Wii U release the issue with it being actually localized and released in English speaking territories would be concerning.

Either way if the DQXI releases on either the Wii U, PS3, or PS4, most are covered.

Some people may complain about "Cross-Gen" it's not like Toriyama's art style required demanding hardware to achieve a 1:1 ratio of accuracy with the drawn or animated material he does to begin with.

If DQXI is anything along the lines of DQ8 or improvement / refinement of that formula, then even a PS3 is more then capable of achieving this, being the same experience but at a higher resolution and framerate on the PS4 is fine as well. DQ was never a series that pushed visual envelope anyways.

What kind of game is this? Is this just a standard Musou? The trailer says it is an RPG though, so maybe there is actually a world to explore.

As I said in one of the topics relating to this game: I am expecting a game like Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll. I'm probably wrong, though. But they said it isn't a masou game, so what do I know?

Just messing around while I was eating but I wanted to get rid of the text on the art on the official site youtube thing, such a nice piece of art.

That's a pretty big tree

If this game is an action rpg, will it be kind of open world-ish like dq8?
