The speculation of troubled development and potential restart of development ended up being true. I like what they're showing here. Reaching something showing up in your dreams is equally (or more) appealing to me than they "darker than normal DQ games and you will have to make choices that have consequences" angle they gave us for the original DQ XII. I like the MC design. The shot of the town at night is beautiful and movement through the overworld looks like it feels good. People will spend forever wanting to see the scrapped XII project but I'm really happy with the direction they decided to pursue.

"Development now restarting" seems a bit misleading, looks like it restarted quite some time ago based on that trailer. Looks great though!

Same. Dragon Quest could be "dark" and "mature" if need be to move the story along but I was remaining cautious because I don't want a western style RPG from DQ.

So much for a darker edgier DQ. This looks fine, the protagonist looks stupid with that haircut though.

Clearly a bloke. Square: "their"

Oh fuck off.
The use of "their" does not imply what you think it implies. You guys are literally looking for this shit now.

That shit would've killed the series.

I am glad it was rebooted.
I don't know. I'm a DQ fan but I'm tired of the same formula over and over. I was looking forward to a bit of a different vibe.

In motion, the traversal kind of reminds me of Visions of Mana.

GIIIIRIZLEY

Your character is likely a mute and it makes sense since a Man or Woman could be playing the game to have NPCs refer to you as they/them. I was actually kinda disappointed that Nahobino was a confirmed make since he had a look that lent itself to being androgynous.
I'm hoping it means we get to create our own hero and choose their gender.

Mehhhhh.
I was looking forward to the darker tone. This just looks like more of the same but with really bad character designs.
And with it being Square and development having been restarted from scratch this isn't coming out untill like 2030.

I know people are low on the MC design, but in my opinion, he looks like he could have come from that scrapped dark DQ XII version. He has sort of a rugged/brute look to him other than being a bit trim.

I bet this was going to be fully action RPG and that's why they decided to scrap it, because they realized the flack they were going to catch. That plus seeing the success of turn based games again, including the remasters. I'll gladly take an ugly ass haircut over what this was probably going to be 😂
