Album is actually pretty bloated, the only 3 standout tracks are Fake Love, Passionfruit and Get It Together.

The Weeknd won.

I've seen people saying he's not actually biting him, but tbh I haven't heard any examples from other artists that sound quite like that. I've seen people mention Uzi, but I can't recall a specific track from Uzi that sounds so much like look at me. It's not a super unique flow but it sounds so much like xxx, right when xxx is kind of blowing up. I honestly feel like it's pretty heavily based on him. Does it really matter? Not at all, but I think saying look at me didn't necessarily inspire this verse isn't true.
Shame about that absolutely trash tier Giggs verse on the track though.

Giggs redeemed himself with the Batman line haha

how, by being the mumford & sons of rnb? LOL

By releasing a better album that isn't bloated and some great videos to go with them?

Off of Starboy, I still regularly play I Feel It Coming, Love To Lay, A Lonely Night, Rockin', Secrets, Party Monster, Stargirl Interlude and Starboy. It's simply a better album than More Life and will be seen as more iconic in the long run, chopping that pineapple off his head is the best thing he ever did for his career. Abel is the new king of pop.

And that's that on that.

What's lost in all of this is that Drake is a rapper being compared to an R&B singer.

lol
He does both though. Kind of a fair comparison if you're strictly comparing the non-rap songs.
Fwiw Drake's doing it better. Frank shits on both of em in that category though.

Passionfruit is a good song, but I don't know if I can get down with calling Drake a singer. Because...well, he's a shit singer.

It is only with the help of certified and experienced studio engineers that this dude even sounds halfway palatable singing on a track. Even his most basic melodies he can't reproduce live. Because he can't sing. If we reduce things to that level ANYBODY can sing. Like, for real. Decent lyrics and a good beat don't change that.

Drake's guttural mumbling shouldn't be compared to Weeknd's actual vocals.

Man, I feel the exact same way but for Starboy actually

I just cant kick Abel stuff on the level that I used to anymore. House of Balloons is one of my favorite albums of all time, that shit was my jam for so long back in the day, Rolling Stone from Thursday still one of my faves ever...

But since Kiss Land only a few tracks from each album stick on me, and I actually cant stand the lead singles from them. (Cant Feel My Face, Starboy)

Only track Im still listening to daily from Starboy is Reminder

The finished product matters more than the subpar vocals that went into it. Abel is a better singer but Drake makes better music.

A lot of singers can't reproduce it in a live setting. Drake has been purely singing on a lot of tracks post-Views. Guttural mumbling? I can understand 100% of the words on tracks he's singing in, he enunciates.

There's what lazy singers do.

And then there's what Drake does.

Eh, I suppose I can buy this.

But if Drake is now a singer, then Nelly was fucking Luther Vandross.

Spot on.

Drake's no masterful vocalist, but it sounds good in my headphones. Good music is more important than technical ability. Weeknd hasn't made any of that since Echoes of Silence.

The more I listen to it the more I like it.

My top songs are from previous albums though. None of the new ones have them beat.

This tops the trash that was the new wknd album though.

edit: he should stop with the UK stuff. Doesn't really fit imo. Listening to his older stuff makes this album seem worse. It's not very fresh.

Love Drake, hate UK rap (and I'm from the UK), not toooo sure how I feel about it just yet. Take Care is one of the best albums of all time though so I'm always eager to hear Drake

I can understand not thinking Drake is a "great" singer, certainly no one should be comparing him to pure singers imo, but guttaral mumbling? If Drake's mumbling then what the hell are Uzi Vert, Yachty & Future doing?

Here, have some facts:

Weeknd makes me cringe and feel embarrassed to even be in the room when it's on. He's an actual toxin to music and is degrading the industry

Drake has some great songs but it kinda feels like he makes a million of them so they're bound to be good at some point. Can't knock the hustle though

Frank is overrated but who cares, he's still quite nice. He is continuing to get better at merging infectious and potent vocal riffs with off-kilter creativity

D'Angelo is one of the premiere artists in our era and makes this whole conversation stupid. He made Black Messiah, Voodo and Brown Sugar. That's it, it's done. Shut everything else down. Comparing Drake and Weeknd is like comparing Krillin and Tien while Beerus is out there destroying planets with his little finger.

This is the most foul, wrong shit I've seen

The album is strong. I cant compare this as a rap album to recent rap releases (Big Sean, Rick Ross) because theres entire sections of the album without rapping. But as a complete body of music, its good. Just trim the fat off that playlist, its 6 or 7 songs too long.

Edge so sharp I almost cut myself without even touching it.

I'm on my 1238719317391st listen. Album is still good. Portland flute is my new ringtone. I got life out of this album, just as advertised. The end.

This is basically Views Part Deux. Which is to say it's mediocre-to-decent with some absolutely banging tracks (Passionfruit, Get It Together). The days of Drake caring about albums as a whole are done, I fear.

Playlist is basically a marketing gimmick here. It's as much an album as If You Read This...

I like it more than views. Track order needs to be switched around. So jarring going from smoke to the Caribbean flavored songs back to some bangers.

Listening now. Half way through or a bit more. Not all that familiar with him but sounds like decent background music in an RnB nightclub or something, but incredibly indisticnt. The whole first half of the album sounded like more or less the same song. There's so little of his personality here from what I can gauge.

This is for someone who loves Kanye and loves that "Started from the Bottom" song so don't judge my views too harshly.

EDIT:

There's some lovely dreamy instrumental shit and every song has heavy bass lines that I love... but I honestly don't think I've heard one distinctive song so far and I'm on the track Teenage Fever, more than halfway through as we speak.
