PS3Everyone knows the PS1 had the best intro.

The original Xbox had a neat startup, especially if you had 5.1. There was also some ultra creepy background music on the dashboard back then.

Came to post this.
4th postJust did a quick scan of the thread, but did anyone post Saturn yet? Still my likely fav:

Holy shit. Am I the only one that subconsciously heard the Dreamcast intro sound effects when that gif played?.
This was the better noise for sure.
Also greatly enjoyed the alternate Gamecube startup.

lol Serious overkill for a system startup sound.Fun fact: The Dreamcast start-up sound was composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto, the famed Japanese musician who won both a Grammy and an Academy Award for scoring The Last Emperor (1987).

The MGS one is obviously awesome, but my personal one is the PSX intro to Final Fantasy VIII's Overture intro. I still content that FF VIII has the best soundtrack of all time--all in my opinion, of course.
You forgot the elongated high-pitched beeps the VMUs all emitted the instant the console was turned on.BZZTT BZZZTT BZZZZT *LOUD GD ROM NOISES*
I like the sega genesis one.
You must be talking about the TradeMark Security System screen. You know, I think only the sonic games did the whole "SAY-GAAAH" thing. Everything else just did this really boring black screen with white letters and some all rights reserved nonsense.
This is some serious technical and legal nerd shit but still so interesting for some reason. You forgot the elongated high-pitched beeps the VMUs all emitted the instant the console was turned on.

All games had the TMSS screen. It was built in to the console.
Actually, allow me to correct myself: it was built in to most consoles. There do exist Sega Geneses that do not have the TMSS screen - it boots straight to the "SEGA" screen built-in to the game cartridge, much like a SNES game boots straight to a "Nintendo" screen (if one is present). Only Model 1s are so fortunate to skip that screen; generally, they're the ones with the FCC ID "FJ846EUSASEGA" on the bottom (as opposed to "FJ8USASEGA" - notice the missing "46E" before "USA"), although some "FJ846EUSASEGA" Geneses also have the TMSS screen, so.
I like how the tune of the Neo-Geo bootup could differ per game.I have to give the nod to the Neo-Geo on this one. It was basically like - get ready to have your face blown off!
PSX boot up
honestly it has to be this. first time i heard this on my friend's living room stereo is etched into my memory. we used to reboot the system over and over just to hear it.
Correction. The NeoGeo Pocket beats it.
Can't believe no one else is a fan of the Saturn's.
PS1 intro will always have the most nostalgia for me. Gamecube is a close second.

I know, I'd always taken the screen for granted. Only reason I know so much is that I was looking into buying a Model 1 Genesis off of eBay recently (apparently they have better sound quality), and was consulting this disturbingly-comprehensive guide; that's where I got most of the info from. This is some serious technical and legal nerd shit but still so interesting for some reason.

Two page and GAF have yet to cite the correct answer ...
Japanese Master System:

Change your goddamn VMU batteries
You bet, pretty funny how some people are trying to rationalize how it isn't
bububububuub the animations aren't cool
bububuubub it isn't linked to the system
SHUT UP
that bassy synth is the equivalent of James Earl Jones' voice
