Dreamcast had the best intro of all time.

God , I'm old.

Sega Master System intro is hands down the most memorable intro ever.

If you listen clearly, the sound is almost saying "Say-Gaaa" after the initial rev-up tone.

Classic.

DOOOP! DEH-DEH! LOVE the SMS boot screen. It has such punchy synth and bass that locks in your ears like a magnet then brilliantly goes off into the SE-GA! musical tone that would make the Genny famous. "Are you ready to play some Alex Kidd, Psycho Fox, Hang On and Wonder Boy??? Heck yes, you are!!!!"

Just did a quick scan of the thread, but did anyone post Saturn yet? Still my likely fav:

I've owned a North American region modded Saturn for about 12 years now and until this thread I didn't realize this wasn't the U.S. boot screen (which is a shame). The person who both sold me and modded the system for me was Canadian, was this the boot screen in that country?

This and the Policenauts Konami Logo, they are absolutely the best. The Konami one was really indicative of the tone of internal Konami at the time, and to a certain extent, the Japanese game industry. Risk takers, fast movers. What in the hell happened...

Agreed. And I'm still bitter Konami didn't give Gradius fans anything for its 25th Anniversary in 2010.

I miss intro screens. I didn't really notice them this generation. They didn't leave as much of an impression on me.

Because we don't turn our consoles off and on again to change a disk! Therefore we hardly see the boot up sequences.

I mean, I realise with most (or all?) disk based consoles you could replace the disk without turning the system off, but I always just shut them off anyway.

The Xbox 360 one is pretty err....iconic?
The original one which came with the fatboy makes me nostalgic cuz i got my 360 at launch like a thousand years ago......i dont really like the new Xbox 360 one.

All of the XBox 360 boot-ups have been fantastic. The PSP had a decent one as well, and even though it's garbage in terms of visual presentation, that click sound for the Wii when you press A to get past the warning screen is pure pleasure.

I consider DC to be an overrated console but boy did i kove that boot up logo/sound.
Imo DC best overall , ps1 best sound. Gamecube one sucks so annoying

I'm a huge Sega fan and Dreamcast is my least favorite Sega console. I don't get how people can prefer it to Saturn. I think the Saturn boot up logo is better also.

Presumably, it's because, unlike the Saturn, most of the best titles in the library also made it Stateside.

I kind of prefer the Saturn, too, but it's not that hard to understand, really.

Remember how PS3 games used to boot up?

edit: (Caution! Audio is kind of loud.)

No idea why they cut that out.

They killed it when they released the Slim. They dumped the Spiderman font from the phat systems and introduced a new font on the Slim hardware/marketing supplies/game boxes so it didn't make much sense to retain the Spiderman font PS3 logo in the firmware when launching a game.

Ugh too much ps1 nostalgia around here... Not only it is stupidly long to the point that after the black screen you don't know if the game loaded or not but has no visual appealing since it only shows 2 logos without any entertaining animation... and the sound isn't even that good compared to others. For example PS3 pre 3.00 firmware is so much better than ps1... and PAL Dreamcast beat them all.

I dunno, I really like the sound.

Also, for a console released in the mid-90s, the fact that the boot screen used the high-res mode was kind of nifty. It was razor sharp.

Haha yep, PS1 was so unreliable at reading discs, that sound is like a threat to me. Maybe better for later gen models, but for a 1995 machine it was seriously ridiculous.

It's like all threads about games history, heaps of people associate whatever they played when they were 12-15 as 'best'. I have a habit of doing it with SNES myself.

Also people have bad taste. Anyone liking the Xbox 1 intro, wtf.

Gotta go with the Gameboy original one. That PLING is forever engrained in my mind to mean rewarding gaming. Is it the same sound as when Mario picks up a coin? I dunno, but it's some serious Pavlov.

PSX has that nice THX vibe with the music, but the logo is godawful and like someone else said, it took ages (well compared to its cartridge contemporaties).

All the people picking the PSone makes me wonder if it was their first system and nostalgia is coming into play. The sound was cool, but the actual intro was rather boring IMO.
This. There's no denying the sound has that powerful tone like the THX intro before movies, but is visually terrible.

Actually I associate it with bad memories since all I remember when hearing the beginning is the times when the sound got stuck indefinitely in the middle, meaning that either my disc or the disc reader had died (PS1 was truly an unreliable hardware for its time).

Objectively there are much better intros with a great combination between visual and sound, like the Dreamcast, the Game Boy Advance, or the Gamecube (the latter which is even INTERACTIVE !).

And to all of you thinking nostalgia matters the most for this, this one has the total package sound + visual + nostalgia. The ultimate best intro :

This thread is all opinions anyway !

PSX boot up

honestly it has to be this. first time i heard this on my friend's living room stereo is etched into my memory. we used to reboot the system over and over just to hear it.

Always sounded like farting followed by a panflute at the end... while the DC one sounded like a classy bathroom with tons of reverb. I think I'm partial to the Neo Geo chime myself!

Dooka Dooka Dooka Dooka Dooka Dooka Dooka Dookadooka... DOOK.

What console uses a tech house song in its bootup?

DC did have that magical intro, the moment I booted up that system I knew I'd be playing some special games. Saturn is a close second IMO.

I agree. DC definitely has this welcoming soothing aura. Ahead of its time, but unfortunately Sony marketing killed the system.

The PS1 intro is just an electronic fart of a V - I cadence. The jingle was when the disk could be read. Real owners remembered that intro fart for the disk read errors. Ugh.

The PS2 intro was much better. Simple and clean.

PS3 is just a blatant rip off of strings tuning A. Nothing magical about it since it's not original at all.

Thinking about it, the first screen of the PS1 bootup, with the heavy bass, is probably the thing I miss the most about it. The PS2, PS3 and PSP only show the second screen with the jingle. It just doesn't have the same impact without the first screen. :(

I love both for many reasons but in regards to the DC specifically, I can't recall another console that has produced so much awesome software in such a short span of time.

I remember the back lash Sony got for changing the old PS3 intro and start game chime. They were completely wrong for changing those. They were actually, properly iconic. It just had Ken Kuturagi stamped all over it and I guess Kaz just didn't like it.

I think I'm in the minority though when I say I prefer the new 360 intro to the old one.

Original

"New"

What do you mean a ripoff of strings tuning A? It is strings tuning A.

I remember hearing a rumor that Philip Glass composed that Windows 95 startup screen music, but I just looked, and it turns out it was Brian Eno.

Pretty heavy hitter for 7 seconds of music.
