Driveclub Eurogamer Preview

Rushy already said that they built this engine from the ground-up having in mind future titles so maybe DRIVECLUB 2 is going to be an open world game or maybe we will see a new crazy Motorstorm game
Driveclub, open world.....................
wow, I'm in. The current build's graphics are jaw dropping. Traversing a rich landscape, like that, open... world...

would be nuts.

To me it seems the AA is better especially on the pylon lines, which look super smooth???

Best in-race car models in a racer?

If by "more going on" you mean more colorful Ridge Racer flags, then I gotta admit, you're right.
In the Driveclub gif, the driver is thundering down a relatively straight passage of road. That's all that happens. In the FH2 gif, the driver goes around several corners, knocks into some stuff, passes spectators, etc. There is "more going on" in the FH2 gif, than in the Driveclub gif. This is why I found it more interesting to watch.

Damn the amount of detail in this game. As I said before, it's the type of game I'd probably find enjoyment in even if the gameplay wasn't particularly memorable. Just enjoying the lush visuals, mmm

Yep, i'm buying it mainly because i like cruising around at snail pace just taking in the scenery... the racing is a nice bonus... i'm only half-joking.

MotorStorm would be about the only racing game I wouldn't mind an open world in. Imagine the island having different environments throughout, with tons of rivers/waterfals etc cutting through the island (which would be tracks for jet skis/boats etc) and of course having tracks for the land of the island for offroad vehicles. It would be glorious.

Of course I'd settle for a closed course MotorStorm/WaveStorm as well. Best arcade racers of...ever. MotorStorm is amazing. Would buy an HD remake of any of them in a heartbeat.

A ps4 motorstorm must happen.
Or at least give us a Pacific Rift ultimate edition, 60 fps, 1080p, retextured.
My money is ready.

The cockpits are freaking amazing, too. Made better, there are two cockpit modes, one which is further up on the dash. It's the best viewpoint I've ever seen in a racing game because it gives you the authentic 'in the car' feel while not jeopardizing half of your screen. I hope other games incorporate such a view in the future.

Yeah, i cant stand having a virtual wheel in front of my real wheel, completely breaks my immersion, going to use that pov a lot.

For what it is worth, I agree with you. I also don't think you need to defend yourself.

Imagine a new Motorstorm game that comes packed with retextured tracks from MS1,2&3. Motorstorm succeeded where games like Pure, etc did not. It makes me wonder why and whether they can recapture that magic of MS2 (pinnacle of the series) with their next inevitable MS game.

Given Evolution studios may now be responsible for the wipeout series, I have wondered what a mash up of the two would look like (concurrent racing on different tracks in the same environment with certain key points of intersection where potential collisions await).

Evo needs to become a 2 team studio, churning out nextgen MS and WipEout followed by Driveclub 2...but it'll never happen, I think they can be glad they're still around after DC gets out ;(

Um, what?

When did this happen?

Serious question: Do we know how many variations on weather we'll be getting. I wouldn't mind seeing fog/sleet and snow if possible?

Rain and Snow has been confirmed by the developer and its easy to think that others will present as well which are not as intensive as Rain and snow.

Thanks all!

Now if they could just impliment dynamic weather into of genres. RPG's would be a good one. I think AC4 had it in a basic form as well if i'm not mistaken. Just didn't look this pretty!

Haha, didn't realise. Says a lot - well, about shrunken gifs, anyway. To be honest, I don't really care where its from - that looks pretty great to me
Edit:
I believe its because there's more "going on" in that gif, as opposed to the effects. The Driveclub gif has better graphics, but nowhere near as much happening over the course of the gif.

Yeah the FH gif certainly has more going on in terms of action, it seems a more action based game than DC will be anyway. Both games look good for what they are, but I don't think they are looking for the same space anyway.

Fog (especially in a point-to-point race) amps up the risk/reward equation for the driver. I really, really hope that's designed into some of the events if their implementation works as well as it should.

Hnnnnggggnnnggggnnhhhh

Comparing FH2 and DC is pointless.

One is a fixed circuit racer and the other is open world.

They both look like there going to be great but different games.

I just wish we got some video footage of DC's weather.

Not sure whether has been some mis-communication or interpretation of what has been said or played but the facts are straight forward :)

> There is no rubber banding - Cars can never go faster than there performance stats allow (AI or human)
> There are no dynamic assists that affect performance based upon position - We never slow down or speed up players online to keep them grouped together.

Hope this clears things up.

What about single player? You specifically said online here.

Please respond, as you were being very coy with your wording here Rushy. Are there dynamic assist in single player? And can you turn them off? Because I do not want such a thing in my single player racing game. I also don't want the CPU to catch up to me unrealistically. I dont want my ABS to be turned on because I didn't drive very well for a bit or something. Thank you for taking the time to respond, because these are important details!!

According to what he said there, and previously clarified:

The claim he made re: the dynamic driving assists is that it's not in the game. Several different interviews suggested it was, but he's saying that's not the case.

I just noticed that the tree shadows you see on the windshield have sharp edges. They're very jaggied. While the same shadows are very smooth when the hit the interior of the car.

Yeah there's definitely work to done there. They seem to have selectively improved certain shadows. Some of the others are still pretty raw.

The bolded parts are exactly the questions that initiated this discussion. I never asked if it was single player or online. Rushy's response was a plain and simple "This isn't true". I'm not sure why you want that clarified again.

The quote you chose was only a follow up to that tweet. He was merely responding to specific issues raised in the thread about competitive racing.

Some speculation: Expect there to be some form of AI catch up in place that works within the bounds of realism and physics. The level of AI aggression may adjust based on the difficulty you choose and how you drive. I see nothing wrong with that.

Serious question: Do we know how many variations on weather we'll be getting. I wouldn't mind seeing fog/sleet and snow if possible?

Just to add to others' responses, "sleet" has been explicitly confirmed. I read one preview that specifically mentioned sleet while descending through low hanging clouds.

Will the assists for other participants change when I drive a Mercedes, am in 2nd position and just pressed the share button by accident?

Oh you...

So we have an in-car viewpoint #1
dc1.gif

And we have an in-car viewpoint #2
iRW2oDKOrO9Iz.gif

From what I understand, the reason they included 2 seprate in-car viewpoints is because #2 is the traditional in car view, designed to work best with the DS4. Whereas with viewpoint #1, Evo included this to facilitate its use with steering wheels like Thrustmaster and (hopefully) Logitec as well....

IIRC, the idea is you would already have your hands on your physical steering wheel controller and therefore there would be no need to duplicate it on screen, so they included this "Ferrari F355 challenge arcade" view....

Rushy can correct me if I am wrong about any of this

Yup. Evo mentioned the same reasoning in one of the interviews. GRID Autosport has this view as well. Hope it becomes a standard going forward. I wouldn't use it, but it's a great idea for those with racing wheels.

Rushy confirmed yes on that exact scenario on Twitter. Basically the easiest explanation I have for people who haven't been following the game is that assists, handling, damage models, controls, resolution and framerate will be dynamic and constantly changing and evolving based on player position, time of day, weather, trackside flamingo count, and friends list activity, ensuring that no two races are ever the same and that everyone is on a level playing field.

Hahaha nice this one almost got me! I need to readjust my sarcasm meter I see.
