DriveClub February Update

Slightly off topic, but it may as well be a good time to ask...

I played Gran Turismo 5 for a bit and liked it.
I played Grid 2 for mere minutes, and was left behind shocked, because I wasn't able to drive for shit.
I played Burnout Paradise for a bit and quite liked it.

I am interested in Driveclub, but I just wanna know how its controls are/ where the game stands among its peers.. I luckily got Grid 2 through Plus, so I want to avoid spending money on such a game. In addition I should say, I have no real investment in the racing genre or knowledge about it.

Should I get it?

If you are a graphics fan(whore) is a must buy, there are times while driving at night that it looks unbelievable, the lighting is life like and with the weather patch... holy shit.

Why don't they just have a gama setting in the options like every other game ever goddamit!
Yeah it's a really strange omission for a game that has so many bells and whistles. My TV's settings are perfect for 90% of my games but Driveclub ends up looking really dark for me. Even when I set a race to noon and mostly clear skies it can get real dark if I happen to go under a cloud.

I'd hold out for ps+ edition (even though you will have to wait a good while) if I was you. The game isn't going anywhere and Evo have recently stated they are working on the servers for the ps+ edition. I really like the game but unless you feel an urge for it just wait.

It's an arcade game that takes a realistic approach to racing lines and handling but doesn't contain the more punishing sim aspects that you would expect from a racer with a realistic approach, for example: If you break and turn in at the same time you won't get a lock up but the steering will be hampered slightly, you will be able to make the corner but the person that breaks then turns in is going to have a slight advantage, if they carry the momentum through they will kick your ass.

This game...man...this game...they've totally stuck to their goal of making it something you keep coming back to in between playing other games with these refreshes, and my god the value in the season pass is insane.

It kinda reminds me of a combination of Warframe and I guess the Souls games - Warframe is a great 'platform' game, and from what I've read of Souls DC has that 'GAHHH YOU BASTARD I HATE YOU but I want mooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre' combination of frustration, unique feel and NEED to get better in the game.

This may not be the right place to ask, but this is the latest Driveclub thread, so here it goes:

Something's been bugging me about the game ever since I started playing it. I've tried and tried to find the car that was shown for a moment in the reveal trailer. This car that has the nice looking diamond pattern dash surface and circular vents:

I assumed for some reason it was one of the Ferraris, so I paid attention to those, but so far no luck (I don't have FF unlocked yet). Then I tried a ton other cars but none I tried had this interior. There's got to be car experts here who would know what this car is right off the bat... right?

It's the Hennessey Venom.

I might be wrong but it might be the Henessy Venom?

You should, if you can get a good deal. I play about as wide a range of racing games possible and will agree that Grid 2 was essentially the most awful thing ever. It's less sim than GT but rewards/demands some track mastery like the GT games do. Driveclub certainly has it's own "feel" and the range of cars is big enough to allow very different driving styles. Big variety in tracks. Feel free to leave the game on Automatic transmission, unlike in GT where it's actually a handicap.

The graphics are incredible. More incredible is that it's so smooth that I can't say the 30fps has ever held me back, even at 200mph+. This massively, massively helps things at high speeds, wide landscapes and with many cars on screen. It's similar to Burnout in that regard at least and it gets the amount of blue juuuuuuust right, but you won't get anywhere near the level of high-speed insanity as Burnout Paradise.

I think its the Hennessey Venom.

You know the best thing about that picture/trailer. Everyone saying that the game wouldn't look that good! Evo took that and made it look better.

I'm tempted to buy this on PSN for $40NZD. What is the story with these updates? Do you need the seasons pass, which is also $40 here?

Best value season pass i think ive ever encountered. 2 packs a month all the way up till August this year so far. 1 car + tour pack and 1 tour pack. ÂŁ6.50 a month.
ÂŁ20 is a bargain

Allowing for earlier downshifts is great for me. I can be fast at times but my driving style is what I would call, "corrective".

I´m always confused with driveclub updates. Am I getting free stuff?
Yeah, everything in the updates are free. This time, content wise, we got a new course (with one variation) from Japan.

Basically the only thing you have to pay for are the "Tours" and most of the dlc cars. We also get a free car every month, pretty much. While the tours are nice, they aren't necessary to enjoy the game. All the courses are free and you can race on any of them at any time. Oh and one of the Tour packs (2 tours) has been free for months now.

Is this update 6.5gig for everyone else.
Its only that big if you haven't downloaded any of the previous updates. If you have, it will actually only download the latest one which is much smaller. I dont know the exact size, but its well under a gig. I think its like 300 MB or something like that.

edit: correction - 700 MB.

It doesn't feel like GRID or Burnout Paradise for me (I know that particular GRID feel you're talking about). It feels very like Project Gotham to me.

Everything about this game is amazing... except for the car selection

Just not doing it for me with all this American trash and Euro nonsense.

You get this month a new track (and its reverse variation) in Japan, a free car and a new multiplayer mode.

Season Pass owners get one expansion pack DOWNFORCE (5 new cars, 11 tours events, 5 trophies) and one tour pack MIDNIGHT (same as expansion but no news cars)

You can buy individual packs. But at this point season pass is a no brainer. You already have $30+ value in additional tour pack and there will be two per month until july

True. The only american cars are more corvette and only corvette... Could be fun to see some SSC super cars for example.

Code:
[IMG]http://www.hardcoregamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/1410391238-driveclub-dlc-infographic.jpg[/IMG]

We should be expecting another 23 Cars, 110 New Tour Events, 50 New Trophies, and 50 New Livery Items for Season Pass; and 6 Free Cars and 3 Free Tracks by August. Is this correct? I did not include the number from November Free DLCs since Evolution said that there will be an additional month of DLCs because of the launch/server mishap.

^^How did they not release a Skyline with the Japan tracks? So much DLC yet it's all so similar.

So glad I didn't get the season pass.

Evolution can be proud what they've achieved with all the problems they've faced only 12 months ago.

And Sony should be proud for having their faith in IP, Rushy and all of the team for keeping up with the project when everything started to crumble because of the Col's (unfortunate) problems.

It is amazing to witness a new IP that was almost brought to the ground, rise again and performing strong.

Once the PSPlus version finally launches and million of PS4 owners get a proper DriveClub experience, this game will further establish its ground and secure a foundations for the future.

Great job by everyone included!

I hope I will be finally getting myself a T300 later this month and start playing with the wheel.

Downloaded this update last night whilst having a play, not got a chance to try it out yet.

One annoying bug I wish they would fix is when playing with the thrustmaster t300rs the steering wheel won't reset to centre when you are placed back on the track. SO for example if you lose control and spin out you'll be placed back on the track with the steering wheel maybe going hard left or right yet your car is facing forwards on the track, if you don't realise and accelerate you can easily crash out again.

I also wish they would let you use a controller as well as a wheel, so maybe the controller for menus and (more importantly) photo mode, and the wheel for the fun part.

Great update and I am looking forward to the rank increase and the replays that will hopefully come very soon (I guess replays will come in March now if nothing goes wrong).

Probably my favourite game in quite some time, there is always new content and it's just so easy/fast to jump into the game and have some fun.
