DriveClub game director left Evolution Studios in February

Maybe Sony should have priced at $450 to use that extra $50 to keep people around...

I kid.

Normally I would say that this is normal as the game is done, but that does not appear to be the case.

Definitely seems like something fishy going on. Although maybe he always planned on leaving in February, Driveclub was meant to be a launch title after all. The game got delayed, but his plans were already in place so had to leave before the game got finished? Who knows.

Sony is creating a smaller team so they can focus on the next iteration of BLOODY ROAR exclusive to ps4.

Believe...

Ew

It would explain the delays though

Would you mind elaborating on your thought?

I like to think the game is mostly done, but I wonder who gets Evos next project.
The director of the project left. And, since we know it "went back to the drawing board" around launch, him leaving in February does not sound like he was completely done with redesign. Just my speculation. I honestly don't even have a crazy conspiracy theory about what's happening, but it doesn't sound like development was coasting well.

Edit: But you could be right! It could be in good shape, but just considering it needed such a long delay, and with the radio silence, I don't know if I could believe that they got their shit together that quickly. Again, just my gut.

driveclub is going be complete garbage or close to it. i'm pretty disappointed- i like racing games but need for speed doesn't cut it for me.

Did the departure cause the delay? Or did the delay cause the departure? The world may never know...

Naughty Dog, SSM, Evolution, GG:C, SCEL. For a console selling well and studios that do well I did not expect this shitstorm.

So when exactly did this game go back to the drawing board again? I was always hazy on that part because the comments could have been interpreted as "last year" or "now" when they were said.

DriveClub is one of the games I'm looking forward to the most. I'm not a big fan of sim racers and Ridge Racer seems to be KIA. Don't leave me having to buy Need For Speed games! :'(

Driveclub is going down the shitter. I even doubt those 15 sec "gameplay" clips were real.
I believe everything I've seen of this game(except some of the trailer stuff that obviously wasn't gameplay). I played it before the PS4 was even released and it was amazing looking. Not my type of racing game, but I know a lot of people are big on it.

Quite baffling what's going on with it. Supposed to be about 5 months ago and still no release date in sight....

They should have made at least one last Motorstorm before imploding :(

edit: I would gladly take a 1080p/60 compilation of Motorstorm any day over Driveclub.

Obviously something went wrong in DriveClubs gameplay designing. The graphics engine was obviously top-notch .. but I'm thinking there was a disconnect on the whole social features stuff from the game.

Maybe the engine wouldnt support the kind of " club racing " the team built the engine for and there wasn't an agreement on where the game should go from there. Who knows.

Damn I've really been looking forward to driveclub...not yet jumping to conclusions (it's cancelled, coming out in 2017, etc) but this game's trajectory has been strange to say the least

Wow.

Wtf. Driveclub situation sounds real bad. Wish they'd be more open about whats happening. Delayed til Q1, "soon," now this.

goddamn it - that seems like the end

Honestly, I can't for the life of my understand what's happening at Sony right now.

Sounds like house cleaning to me.

Probably a case of what have you done for me lately/fostering new creative talent and ideas.

We need some fresh ideas in this biz badly.

I imagine some of the senior dudes command big salaries.

He left though. And his project hasn't shipped yet.

This is very disappointing. I love my racing games. I should've bought a Xbox One first, instead of a PS4. I would at least have Forza 5. Get your poop together Phony!!!!

There are a couple ways you can look at this.

1) It could be legit redundancies and after the majority of the work had been done on Drive club he just decided to leave the studio.

or how I feel...

2) Drive club was being developed, but was done so at a slow pace, and perhaps was not up to par. not up to the level of production they expected from the studio which lead to layoffs and him departing the studio.

Just a guess. If it is #2 (since it does seem like they have been REALLY reworking the game since it has been delayed so long... twice if you include Japans launch) then it is probably for the best. Studios that spend tons of money to develop games that don't pan out usually close permanently.... better to correct any problems now than create a money pit that forces everyone to lose their jobs.

I'm pretty sure Driveclub is basically finsihed but they're holding it till fall. Of course they're still working on it, but the core game is finished.
So if he wanted to leave Evolution after completing his project it makes sense that he leaves now.
