Precisely... how else would his coworkers have known about his kink? And the quotes from his post where he compares his expression of the little "quirks" of gorean culture to religion makes it seem like he wants to be able to be public with his philosophy, not keep it in the bedroom. Would you want to know your coworkers kinks and sexual philosophies, especially if said philosophy sees women as subhuman?

Larry describes how they came to know about it. Someone found him on an account protected Gor site and leaked it to someone at his company who then created a fake account on the same site and started keeping records of his posts while also trying to blackmail him into resigning. According to Larry, of course.

So I'm guessing this guys proclivities were bleeding into his actual job from the way things look? If so I can get behind dumping him as you should learn to separate work and play, especially for stuff like BDSM which isn't a bad thing at all but not something you should be chatting up at the water cooler.. That said I don't think people should be fired for what they do in their bedroom especially if its consensual even if I personally don't care for it. You're into scat? Whatever, just make sure you aren't sending emails about it to coworkers or giving graphic descriptions of your kinks in the break room.

This post sums up my position entirely.

If he's just being kinky in his bedroom, whatever. I'm happy to accept that people can be sexually excited by whatever weird stuff impacted them at the appropriate point in their development and it's not a judgement on their character.

It's totally inappropriate to involve other people in your kink without their consent, especially coworkers, whether that's at work or in social encounters outside of work.

Comparing Gorean "cultural quirks" to Vulcan salutes is off base. Gor isn't merely a book series, it's a kink. A better comparison would be if you worked with your SO and had them call you master/mistress all the time in the office -- which would be inappropriate, in my view.

edit: I was very sympathetic to Larry's blog post until he goes completely bonkers and compares Gor to a culture that is being persecuted and suggests it's just like any other religion.

How does this type of stuff even get brought up on a work environment?

Like would anyone just casually discuss their BDSM stuff at work?

How friendly can you be with Co workers to start discussing stuff like that?

And if it isn't from casually discussing it, why in God's name would you write, blog etc. About it with your real name?

Agreed. No problems with him being let go. It's not discrimination based on sexual preference, it's firing someone for deeply inappropriate conduct at work.

If this is what he's into, fine, but he needs to keep that shit extra private and not bring any of it into the workplace.
The way I'm reading things he wasn't the one who brought it into the workplace.

Yah he said he's been in this 'lifestyle' the whole time he's been at the company, so over 12 years. The problem is someone somehow stumbled on his profile on a website and found pics and a video of him and this circulated at work. Can't post shit like that and assume it will never get out. He says that it was a private forum but later says there are 5million users. The thought had to have crossed him mind that he could be outed.

Gor? That is something i haven't heard in ages. Although not the greatest of looks, as long as every consents, do you.

Basically in Gorean culture a woman can't be true to herself until she becomes a slave to a man.

Exactly, there are bug aliens and giant hawks involved

lol Who needs to look things up with your ass around, senpi?
