DSi North American Launch Date: April 5th, 2009

I just watched that entire Amazon trailer and...

As an owner of a DS Lite, and totally unbiased owner of all the current consoles/handhelds, I can say that all of the new features in the DSi do not appeal to me at all.
Many of them seem to be what I consider "neat tricks"; features I would try once, and then never use again.
The only improvement here for me is the larger screen (not much larger), and the ability to play DSi-only games. I'm skeptical about Nintendo's download-only games after the offerings on the Wii.

Finally, the removal of the GBA slot sorta seals the deal for me. Not a huge fan of that, since I love being able to play Minish Cap and FFVI on the go.
Also of note, I did upgrade from my DS Fat to a Lite, and do not regret it.

I have no doubt that the DSi will do very well for Nintendo, but I can't really see a reason for a Lite owner to upgrade unless... well... they're a pre-teen girl. That's not meant as an insult to those that are interested in it, it's just the demographic I imagine this will really strike a chord with.

Are there really that many Lite owners on here that are anxious to get this?

I sold my lite in order to buy this. I don't really care about GBA access.

But, if you have an opinion, you are not unbiased. Opinions are biased, you do not need to preface your opinion. :)

NoE's trailer is much better, it's only on their press site for now though, but maybe I can upload it somewhere...

i am getting it in large part so i can give my wife my dsl and we can play single-cart multiplayer on a bunch of games. i am cautiously opimistic about dsiware and a huge warioware fan so that helps. also my ds library is already so full that the only gba game i still care about is twisted and i play that the way it should be played--on the old gba.

I really wasn't that excited by the new features but I bought one on day one in Japan to see how the new screens were and how they affected my old games.

But it's actually not the screens or the camera which make it awesome. There's no looking back once you've tried DSiWare and Moving Memo Pad. PicoPict, Somnium, Tetris Attack/Puzzle League and of course Paper Plane.

It's simply not that appealing until you mess around with it, but the personalisation features have meant it very quickly became the natural device to have whenever I go anywhere.

If only to watch my favourite user-generated animations on the go.

Evidentally Gamestop will offer an extra $25 in trade-in credit on systems starting this Sunday. That means I'd get $75 for my Lite. Not a bad deal at all. I'll probably preorder at the Gamestop down the road and cancel my Amazon order.

I would consider giving my Lite to my wife but she has no interest in gaming outside of the occasional Brain Age "Low to High" puzzle and us playing NY Times Crosswords together.

I have to disagree.

bias: a particular tendency or inclination, esp. one that prevents unprejudiced consideration of a question; prejudice.

I do have an opinion, but it is not a prejudiced one, as my lack of discrimination shows. Anyway, your approach is the only one that makes sense to me as a Lite owner, especially if you aren't interested in GBA.

See, while many of those features sound pretty neat to me, in reality, I wouldn't use it. I've got a blackberry which I use for my notes, quick-picture-taking/sending, etc.

I obviously cannot make any calls about the games you mentioned, but as I mentioned, the games themselves would pretty much have to be a system seller in this case, since the system will not sell itself to me.

OK, that is actually very cool, but...
I've got a flash cart for my Lite, and Animanatee (homebrew app) does the same thing. Hm, I may have to check that out :)

Thanks for posting that, it's a much better ad. The only two parts that interested me over the Amazon one is the animation creator and improved sound (that would actually be a pretty big point with me, cause the Lite's speakers are a bit trashy).

I guess I'll just have to wait and see how the DSi exclusive games are, but I'm going to stay reserved for the time being.

Wasn't that trailer made by amazon?

I was under the assumption that companies sent those types of videos to amazon to use on the product site. It might very well be an Amazon video. Not sure. For Nintendo's sake, I surely hope so.

I still think it looks ridiculous. I know marketing is supposed to exaggerate the awesomeness of a device, but this is taking it one step too far.

If Nintendo just had said something along the lines of "after 3 years of DS goodness, instead of dropping the price, we'll ad some new features like a camera and DSiware, so that games can be even more challenging and fun." I would think it is awesome.

But instead, they release the DSi next to the DSLite despite it being barely any upgrade (imho), hike up the price, and focus on stupid shit like being able to record up to 18 ten second long sound clips, or take shitty photo's and the ability to make them look funny with the stylus. As if anyone is going to spend more than 5 minutes with any of those features.

WOW.
Fantastic Ad.

I'm in day one if for no other reason than ArtStyle games and Panel de raptorjesus Pon.

If that's your opinion fine, those who actually have a DSi in their hands have provided evidence to the contrary... so on that note if you're not going to get one why continue to post in this thread?

I've had my Lite since launch and it's pretty beat up. I was planning to replace it, but I'll hold out for the DSi. I'm really interested in DSiWare.

I get the feeling that the NoE video is a translated Nintendo Japan one. Because it's the sort of thing they'd do. Just a hunch. Or, NoE are following NCL very close stylistically.

The contrary of what? That I think their marketing surrounding the DSi is ridiculous, and that I think they should've replaced the DSLite with the DSi for the same price instead of keeping them both but one at an even higher price? How are the people who had the DSi in their hands going to prove me wrong about something like that?

And actually, I am interested in the device. I just had some remarks because the videos are ridiculous imho and don't focus on the important stuff + the price is too high at this point. If a device or game doesn't interest me, I don't enter the thread in the first place. But actually, I am going to leave this thread, cause with posts like yours, I figure it won't take long before someone calls me a troll.

The contrary statement was in regards to the explanation that sporsk provided you above and specifically outlined the use for taking as you continued to remark "shitty photos."

I can't believe how many times I have to squash this shit, but the camera is not there to be your new digital camera, it's there for use in apps like games and the photo channel. It's there to play with, not to start your photography career. The res is low so games can use it. See: Wario Ware for DSi.

.25 inches is a big difference.

Yes recording your voice isn't that big of a deal, and to be honest its fun to play with for like five seconds, but to say that the buck stops with the included software is totally uninformed. There are things like ugoku memocho that are totally free and are extremely awesome and worth upgrading for. Then you've got stuff on the DSi store like the Art style series and small cheap versions of mother fucking panel de pon, and suujin taisen.

Nintendo so far has been updating the DSi store monthly with good software so far, which is more I can say about the JP Wii Ware store.
The ad you were harping on did showcase the use of the cameras for gaming usage and all it takes is a bit of imagination to see how these additional tools can provide for a significantly enhanced/varied gaming experience that the DSlite currently is incapable of providing.

Seriously. It makes the NoA video look like an infomercial you would see on the Weather Channel at 2am.

And dang it, that white model looks so much better than the black or blue.
I love the look of the blue one. I don't know why everyone is downing the blue one.

Me either. The blue one is hot. I am biased, though, because blue is my favorite color.

I'll send an angry mail to Nintendo to complain that I can't play METROID or F-ZERO games on the DSi. They'll surely listen and release F-Zero DSi and Metroid Dread... believe.

ahhh, i want this game so bad since it was rumored back in 2005. Still holding to the dream that one day maybe will come true (metroid 64 img)

Much better Trailer, than the amazon one.

NoE >>>>>>>>>> NoA

Ordered one for me and one for my son off of Amazon. Got one of each color. He is four and still gets a kick out of messaging me with Pictochat so I think he is going to love the photo features.

Just got it pre-ordered at my local GS! Yay! :D

Saw NOE's trailer last night in my ipod touch and it is way better than NOA's trailer.

Anywayz: After waiting this long there better be a couple games for DSiWare Day 1. Seems like the browser< WarioWare DSI, and Decode are confirmed day 1 for EU. So I hope we atleast get those. And hopefully the Notepad app. And some of those mini WarioWare 200point games.

Went to Gamestop on my lunchbreak and preordered there and cancelled by Amazon order. Thankfully I can trade in my Lite and not deal with eBay. Only thing that sucks is that I'll be without a DS for about 6 weeks. Oh well, I'll live.

Hopefully the browser will be free at launch.

This will be like my previous DS for me.

Stage 1: "update already? Bah. Not getting it"
Stage 2: "After seeing it in person... OMG, new color looks hot. One for the wife"
Stage 3: "The DS Lite is a fraud. Not getting it"
State 4: "Oh God, it is cute. I will bite"

Etcetera. I am not even pretending I don't care anymore; it doesn't matter if I think I will like it. Nintendo has managed to sell me any updated handheld they have produced. I can not help it.

I think the brits are still unaware that their currency has collapsed. Poor chaps.
I'm not sure about others, I'm perfectly aware, and it's a shame for stuff like this. I expected £150 because of the strong Yen and the weak quid.

Thankfully, a lot of economists and chaps like George Soros think that's the end of the Pound's weakening, so maybe when exchange rates look very different in a year or 2 (even if just because of volatility), the DS will have a minor price drop - that is of course if Nintendo decide to drop the price of their hardware.

PSP is bound to be cheaper than DS eventually. Heh, imagine if PS3 becomes the same price as Wii. That'd be quite mad.

To backup sp0rsk and others here,

Sure, the camera is basically a gimmick right now. Photos and music don't make a difference to me in everyday DS use. At all. What does make a noticeable difference, even over the DSfat-DSlite upgrade, is the other everyday elements. The screen improvement, the controls improvement, the OS improvement, the sound improvement.

Later, the pull will be the new platform it uses, but for now, it's like buying a really comfortable new chair.

There is a DSi Vid on the Nintendo Channel now in the UK. For some reason it looks like heaven with lots of people dressed in white playing on the DSi.

Lots of pre-orders open in the UK for £150, but GAME acceidentally e-mailed everyone saying it had 2 touch screens and then had to mail out retracting it... :lol

Not decided yet. Looks good, but most of the features I'd only use if games used them.

what's the screen improvement? doesn't an increase in screen size while maintaining the same resolution result in a lower quality image? i haven't noticed anyone talking about it. is the size difference too small for that effect to be noticeable? the reduced screen size in the GBM made GBA games look so much better.

It looks the same if not better, the screen just more crisp. Despite being bigger.

i pray that you're right, VOOK. i pray... that you're... right.

Yeah I have a Micro it's like that, especially with the added brightness. It really does look awesome.

cool picture, but i can't see the pixels in that. the pigzuls tell the tale. i feel like i can't relate to you. maybe i'm on a different and more ridiculous level of nerd. the built-in cameras are probably a bonus for you; you can take fun pictures of yourself with your friends while you're hanging out having good times and such. taking pictures of my bedroom walls will get boring

isn't the ds lite bright enough? i don't mean to pull some shit out my ass and rub it on your enthusiasm, so i'm sorry if that's what i'm doing. does the extra brightness makes it easier to see in sunlight? i never go past the second level of brightness on the lite. :D :lol :D :lol :lol :lol :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol
