So, playing Chrono Trigger on the DSi and the game looks odd when in motion. I'm not sure if I can call it ghosting or not, but everything blurs like a mofo when you move Crono around. Anyone else getting this? Annoying as shit.

I did notice a ghosting like effect playing games yesterday that I never had on my lite, so yeah. I never tried Chrono Trigger on my DSi, but no ghosting or blurring on the DS Lite.

I played through almost all of the game on my japanese DSi; I don't remember any blurring of note.

You get them when you connect to the DSiWare store (might have to link to Club Nintendo too, not sure)
ok good:D this is Canada I assumed we wudda got fucked on this I'll post impressions later doing this from iPhone

I texted my wife to see if I got a package from Amazon, since it was "Out for Delivery" according to the website. She said I did, and she'd be happy to try out the new DSi for me to make sure it works. Isn't she thoughtful?

Work just got a whole lot slower.

No blurring for me. Nothing like that on Contra IV, Megaman ZX Advent, or Kirby either. Guess it's either a hardware issue or you need to mess with the brightness (only things I could think of).

Those...those are the best parts about the DSi :-/
For me its the screens, matte finish, and better sound. Never had any issues with any other DS version's dpads.

There's a giant sticker on the box in english and french announcing the points bonus.

How did you miss that.

Don't bother buying the nintendo branded screen protectors... The bottom one doesn't even cover the whole fucking screen. What a way to piss away $9. Does anyone know of protectors that do work?

I bought the 8 in 1 Kit from Icon, only 10$ CAD. The screen protectors are really good, it even has one to cover the camera eye on top of the DSi.

Bought the black kit, but just a word of warning, the bottom protector is fully transparent, while the top one has a white border, I assume they messed up some packages and put white DSi protectors instead of black :/

Will have to buy another kit for the top one.

NuShield makes the best screen protectors for DS & DS Lite, unfortunately they have not put out a new model cut for the DSi screen size yet. Eventually they will though.

Haven't gotten mine in the mail yet, but Hori never did me wrong with the Lite. I will update once I receive them from play-asia later in the week.

Haven't tried this with an SD card yet. Is a DSi block the same size as a Wii block: 128 kilobytes?

Yeah, the whole system menu looks terrible.
That's just a poor and confusing design choice rather than a hardware issue, though. If for whatever reason they were to use the same look on Lite, it'd look just as shitty.

That's because you don't understand it quite right—and you're not alone; lots of people are making this mistake. Just because the light is on doesn't mean the wireless is actually on; it just means it's enabled. It's only on if it's flashing.

It's basically for situations when you absolutely must make sure the wireless stays off, like on a plane/near a pacemaker/whatever. If it's on, it's operating just like the DS used to. If you go turn it off, you'll notice that no downlevel (DS) games can actually make any wireless connections.
Thanks, the always-on light had been confusing me too.

...Making them embedded at the top and no longer the entire corner of the DS. I found myself constantly missing the buttons when trying to play things like MarioKart with my son.

You're just mad you got whooped by your son. zing! I kid. Thanks for the impressions I *may* pick one up and sneak it past the wife.

I'll try messing with the brightness, but it's only at 4. Bleach: Dark Souls played fine, but CT looks smeared when in motion. =/

Dunno, I got the ones from gamestop that came with 4 stylus. I don't know if hori or someone else makes them but they suck.

Yep.
We compared NSMB on my DS Lite and my new DSi and there is definitely more ghosting on the DSi visable.

Question, the first thing i did when i got my DSi was link my club nintendo account to my system. Now I just registered it on club nintendo, and it's telling me to link my dsi ware account with my club nintendo account. Will this sort itself out?

Must be only on certain DSi's then either different screen types for shipments or some kind of defect.
Well, I can only say that I have seen three DSi systems in action now. My own and two systems from my brothers friends (two black systems, one white system). And we noticed the ghosting on all screens.

Oh - and Art Style: Code is a work of genius.^^

I'll test other games when I get home. I could have sworn Bleach looked fine. I'll check my other games. If I see the ghosting, I'm getting my system back.

This system is awesome, absolutely loving it! Columns view for the browser is a must, makes sites like Wikipedia readable. It's kind of a shame that flash video isn't supported so that Youtube could be used, but oh well. I like the ambient music in the menu, and the actual music player is pretty decent even if it can't operate while games are in use. I'm looking forward to new DSiWare titles that are on the way.

I hope that all new DS games come with an animated icon for the DSi menu.

Theoretically, DSi-enhanced titles could use the sd card music for custom soundtracks, right?

Chinatown Wars 2 with custom soundtracks.

Its no PSP 1000 & 2000 level of ghosting.

Ghosting happens with games on the DS Lite as well. Perhaps the larger screen is just making it more noticeable (like on the PSP).

Not sure if anyone's posted this pic from Eurogamer yet, but I thought it was a good static comparison:

As I said earlier, the ghosting is noticeable in Rhythm Heaven too, though it's not that surprising, as the game is made of areas of flat colours. I don't know about the DS Lite, but the DS Phat doesn't have that issue, even with RH, whereas my DSi has it.

Just got mine today, but I can't open it 'til the 23rd. My GF got it for me for my birthday. :(

Riddle me this, are the screens noticeably bigger?

They're a bit bigger, text is easier to read and sprites are bigger so details are easier to see. I think it's more important that the bottom and top screen both look the same and the overall quality of the screens is better. Especially the colors, DS Lite looks 'washed out' compared to DSi.

Oddly enough, I don't notice ghosting too much on my PSP 2000. With CT and the DSi I noticed it immediately. The screen turns a shade darker when whenever you move as opposed to when you're standing still. Brightness lvl 4.

Larger screens are very much not worth it. The resolution is horrendous.

Not sure what Nintendo was thinking here.

No not really. Its not stretched or anything. Screen ratio is perfect.

Oh I know what you mean now. Yeah that happens, but it's not really noticeable unless i'm looking for it. That happened on my DSlite when playing GBA games (FFV advance). I usually have my brightness on the second from the highest, and only highest when outside...but it's not really noticeable unless im focusing on one character sprite or something.

Is that really called ghosting though? I assumed you were experiencing something like the PSP and Crisis core's opening movie.

Yes. As for comparison pics, scroll up to see how much extra space.

My bday is also the 23rd! High-five yeah!

The screens are noticeably larger, imo.

I have that on my DS lite. :(

Been playing it all day and haven't noticed anything wrong.

Yeah its not really ghosting, its just a small blur effect (this happened on the lite too now that I think about it) when you move. Its hard to explain, but you only notice it when you really focus on the screen.

EDIT:

Removed the picture :lol I was trying to show an example of how nothing has been affected negatively by being displayed on larger screens, not the "blur" problem.

Jesus Christ that is some terrible blurring. Gonna just write "Return to Sender" on the Amazon box instead of bothing to even open this POS.
