Dumbest gaming related buys. (stupidly expensive LE / CEs allowed)

This...

And I like Destiny.

Same here but hey, maybe the Peter Dinklage voiced Ghost is worth something right now?

Ni No Kuni CE

Bought it on the Gaf hype train, played for 4 hour and feel asleep twice
Most boring game i've ever played

That Metal Gear Solid V collector's edition. I usually never buy a CE for any game. I got super hyped for MGSV and decided to take the plunge.

I feel dumb. I love the game and all, but those extra collectors' items are not worth it. The only thing I liked was the steelbook.

I spent $60 on Mario Golf: Advanced Tour, and Super Mario Advance 1 through 3 (That's SMB2, SMW, and Yoshi's Island ported to the Gameboy Advance) all in good condition CiB

They hardly get played, but I can't bring myself to sell them.

I also hardly use my PS4, putting in all my time on the WiiU. At least its useful for watching movies off of my external hard drive. My friends and I also have fun with the Jackbox game Quiplash, plus YouTube.

But getting a PS4 for Netflix, YouTube, and Quiplash feels a bit overkill. I haven't finished any of the games I have for it except Journey.

Oh, right. The Witcher 3 CE. I'm stupid and didn't even get the One version for the cards.

I'm a sucker for everything else Witcher related, but still glad I missed out on the CE version.
That face!

Mine: Either, Division Gold Edition Digitally, or NMS Special Edition.
I had store credit for NMS, so it only cost me $20, but still.

I'm too sentimental with my games are rarely ever trade them in.

FFXIVs soundtracks are also pricey.

it's been incredibly hard to resist buying Square Enix OSTs. I've ended up buying OSTs for games I don't like / never played because the presentation is so good. I'm putting as much money into OSTs as the actual games these days...
its troubling that they're going the bluray music cd route though, it's important that I'm able to pop these into a car.

as wasteful a spender i am i never bought that limited edition stuff. and i'm a huge nerd. maybe if i had more space...

as for my dumbest purchase, probably $90 on fallout 4 with the game +season pass. i don't hate the game like most but i put it down pretty quick. at least i got in before the season pass price hike

Remember, it's not a dumb purchase if it's worth more than what you paid for it.

This is the issue with CEs. Almost everyone buys it with "it's limited!!" logic but almost every CE is still purchasable for a quarter of the price at some point down the line.
I don't know about the general public, but I really hope there aren't that many people around these parts buying most Western CEs expecting them to be rare. It shouldn't be hard with a bit of experience to figure out what actually appreciates in value and what gets clearanced out, and even then, pretty much every single CE will be profitable when parted out (as opposed to gathering dust and serving as an excuse to complain about overpriced CEs).

Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus Physical.

I had a feeling the game might suck. It was $50 and the included artbook was beyond underwhelming. The game wasn't even good as a guilty pleasure, it was surprisingly boring.

Tried to sell the same week it launched and I think I got like $20 for it.
your loss; even opened copies can go for $100+ now

The ultimate early access edition of Forza 6. My mother had just passed and I do love racing games so I thought it would provide a distraction from the pain, but I put maybe five total hours into the game.

I bought the LP version of the Furi ost despite not having a record player

dat album art tho...

If you don't have a record player, you can buy a record frame and hang it to sort of salvage this purchase.

So this is basically the LE/CE thread then?

Honestly though, I never really understood the appeal of collectibles, particularly for people with a limited budget. For me if I have $1000 to spend on games, I may as well buy 20 games a year standard edition, than 10 LEs a year. That's just me though. Maybe 10 games a year is enough for others. Those little bits and pieces never seem to be worth the extra cash and more of a way for the publishers to squeeze more dollars out of its most hardcore fans.

The other thing with LEs, do they increase in value over time? If not, seems even sillier to get.

The best collectible in my opinion is the strategy guide, because at least it looks nice on the book shelf, sure its outdated most of the time due to patches and things, but if you just want to take a quick browse at the game, its nice to open up the strategy guide.

Various CE's like the Mortal Kombat X one that I never even openend outside of the game (which I played for a few hours tops). Complete waste of money, but I don't really do that anymore, just for special games like the upcoming Last Guardian CE and Nintendo stuff, I just use that saved money to buy overpriced vintage games now :)

I bought the Arkham Knight season pass. I didn't mind the Batgirl DLC and the Batmobiles were sort of fun, but still sort of a rip off.

Other than that maybe my Xbone. Had fun with Xbox and 360, already had a PS4 but for no good reason wanted the Xbone. Got it a month or two after launch when still bundled with the Kinect. As a media player with the Kinect it is my preferred device, voice commands are great. EA access, GwG and BC is pretty awesome. Sunset Overdrive was amazing. Pretty much every other current generation game from now on will come to PC or PS4 and the rest I am not that interested in.

anyone who buys those stupid overpriced collectors addition things, seriously?

you're a gamer buying a GAME, but instead your happy to spend an extra 100 to 150 dollars on some useless cheap shit and the occasional sound track. With that extra money you could buy 2 or 3 more games.

What if you're a GAMER and COLLECTOR?

FWIW, at least in regards to the XIV OSTs, they also include MP3 versions of all the tracks which you can extract so you can listen to the music on something other than a BD player/outside your home.

That's why.

...in 2015.

I don't even have DS lite, and since it required Slot-2 connected Expansion Pak, I can't run it on my 3DS. (And even if I could, what would I browse with it?)

I just wanted to have the right to say: "Yes, I own a browser on a cart." Well, as well as that peculiar but useless Expansion Pak too.

My GF still has this. I laughed the first time I saw it. I heard about it but never knew it was a real thing.

Gran Turismo 5 Signature Edition.

Don't get me wrong. I loved the game and the extras were all good quality, but £120? For something that dropped in price RAPIDLY afterwards? Yeah.

I dunno. From what I was reading, it was better then Internet Explorer for Windows Mobile (my Internet-on-the-go solution back in the mid-2000s), and that wasn't too shabby too.

So it was really good back then.

€80 for the special edition of Starcraft 2 with art book. Didn't play Starcraft 2 that much.

And like 144 guilders, guess around €70, for Warpath: Jurassic Park on PS1. I liked fighting games and I liked Jurassic Park. The game wasn't bad but looking back I paid way too much for it.

The SC2 special edition's USB drive actually ended up being the drive I used for the entirety of my college career. It has my entire portfolio I've gathered over the years of my programming school work / projects.

I have the Final Fantasy XV Ultimate Collector's Edition pre-ordered.

It costs $270. With shipping to Canada, that's $315. In Canadian dollars, that's $410.

Its centrepiece is a Noctis Play Arts figure and I don't particularly want any toys.

It doesn't come with the season pass that the digital deluxe version comes with. It doesn't come with the King's Tale retro DLC game that you get when you pre-order at Gamestop.

I haven't cancelled yet. I probably won't. "Dumb" is probably the right word.

OK guys, I preordered my first ever CE (Persona 5's CE), and now I wonder if the goodies are really worth the price.

I know, it's only $89 there but It'll cost me $120 here and that's more than my monthly allowance...

Please don't make me doubt myself, I can't cancel it....

Sorry but you done goofed.

I just put down $80 today to preorder the Titanfall 2 Digital Deluxe version because I'm a piece of shit.

See, I don't understand why ppl spend so much on Digital Deluxe versions, you get nothing to show for it except a couple of different skins or early access to maps or some shit, and the price. The Digital Deluxe version of SW:Battlefront was £119.95!!!! For DLC!!!

You could just buy the standard version at CDKEYs for $40 and save half the money, get the DLC later if you like the game.

At some point its not even about saving money - its just more logical.

haha... yeah I ALMOST bought the LISA Vinyl OST despite not having a vinyl player.

one, because it's the fucking LISA OST

and also it looks cool as hell

Holy shit I need this
despite also not owning a player.

I buy a lot of LE/CEs of games but I don't regret most of them. Buying Persona 4 Arena Ultimax just to finish my set of Persona 4 tarot cards before I even owned a PS3 was maybe a bit dumb. But I own one now!

Ni No Kuni CE

Bought it on the Gaf hype train, played for 4 hour and feel asleep twice
Most boring game i've ever played

Sorry that you didn't like it but I love that game and the CE is a beautiful set. The book isn't just a mock book but an actual fully realize book and the plush is cool too. It's still worth something and, for me, I would never sell mine.

You could resell it for more than you paid for it, though, even open. As regretful CE purchases go, you should have been able to get out of that one relatively unscathed.

Bought the SFV TE2+ controller thinking I was gonna totally throw myself into the game. I've used it for less than 2 hours, now its just sitting there.
