Dumbest gaming related buys. (stupidly expensive LE / CEs allowed)

The Gold Experience Box edition of JJBA All-Star Battle.

I actually liked the game a whole lot in spite of its many flaws, and the CE was pretty nice! But when the review backlash and mass refunding made copies of the game dirt cheap, in turn bringing the CE's price below the standard game's ~$80 retail price all within a month or two of release, kinda made having spent around $200 on it a bitter pill to swallow.

WoW: Legion CE

Since I stopped playing with Mists of Pandaria I still bought the Warlords CE to keep my collection going. I forgot Legion was due out and forgot to pre-order it. The expansion was sold out everywhere so I paid 2x the price for it and I have zero intentions of playing the game. I just wanted to keep my collection going.

I bought a Gamecube controller and adapter to use with Super Smash Bros on the Wii U. Figured I would finally get into Smash Bros, and I might as well use the preferred control method for many players.

I barely ever play Smash, and the controller is only usable with one game, because Nintendo gotta Nintendo.

This happened to me too.

I bought this tin box with a shirt that didn't fit me and a DVD that only hag a steam client and a key to download the whole game. At that time I didn't have a broadband connection.

Eventually I could download it, but I ended losing the Steam account which I had registered it to because the email I used no longer existed

Pip Boy Edition for Fallout 4 was crap and I got that on a huuuuge discount. It also didn't help that I disliked the game itself (though I at least somewhat saw it coming).

Another one of my favorite stories was this edition for Saints Row 3

The game turned out to be shit and on top of that, the headphones broke within two weeks.

Got rid of both those games.

The Division is the most recent one I can think of. I knew I would hate it but I got it because my friends talked me into it. Traded it in within a week

Buying modnation racers expecting a Mario Kart like experience. I got the blandest, most generic Kart racing game ever instead.

I maybe played with the PS Move for like 15 minutes. What a waste of money...

I paid like 15 euros for mine together with the camera and it was money well spent. I may be biased because I love light gun games like house of the dead overkill, though.

Bioshock Infinite's Collector's Edition (The one without Songbird statue) . I got rid of the extra shit it had when I moved into a different home with my family three years ago.

That's horrible, mine at least has a slightly better beard and areas that look like non-bloodshot eyes.

Yeah mine is the worst I've seen. There's a huge crack in the griffin's face too. Was promised a new one but then they stopped responding and never sent me one. Probably gonna try and paint it myself some day.

I own one of these...

Oh hey..yeah that thing i have it also..dunno why i even bought it in the first place.

Adding SWTOR C.E to it also but the statue is nice though very robust and nice quality and to be fair the game isn't the same as it was years ago, almost but more fun and yet it isn't WoW that's the problem.

Also bought the division c.e pc verison yeah another one..haven't touched the game in months, will go back if they ever fix what it is needed to be done.

I've only purchased two special editions ever.

PqoYm5n.jpg

Bully actually released for $40 and the special edition was $50. Gamestop or EB Games or wherever I went ONLY had this edition, but I didn't mind because I already assumed it was $50. It came with a dodgeball in a big box. I'm not sure what I did with the sticker, I may have plastered it on the side of my computer.

And...
For $80 you got the game, a gold Wiimote with Motion Plus (required to play the game), and a CD. The Wii Motion Plus add on alone was $20, so you basically got the CD and Wiimote for free. I still use the Wiimote as my primary one to this day and the CD was absolutely amazing. Although fairly quaint, it's hard to argue the sheer value of this package.

So while of course there are games I wish I never bought, I never caved and bought a hundred dollar plus special edition.

I spent $250 Australian on this stupid thing:

One of my biggest wake-up calls ever. Not only was it a load of junk (the chest could actually hold like 15 PS3 games, but it was cheap plywood and everything else was throwaway. It didn't even have a proper plastic game case; the disc sat in this ratty cardboard folding thing), but I didn't even like Uncharted 3. Lesson learnt: no matter how hyped you are for something, it can always underwhelm.

Luckily I managed to sell it again for close enough to what I paid that I could sleep at night.

Destiny ghost edition, biggest waste of money games wise in a long time. I was way to hyped for the game and it way undelivered for me personally.

I bought Fallout 4. It may not be that expensive on its own, but for disappointment to dollars spent, I think it leads my more recent regrets.

I bought the Collectors Edition for GTA IV. Came with a bag and a safety deposit box thingy. Not dumb of me I think I was just really excited for the first HD GTA. I used the bag and the box holds some controllers and leads etc. Still if I could go back I wouldn't have bought it lol

Launch PS3. I do not regret buying a PS3, but I wish I'd waited until there were some decent games and a price drop. It was bloody expensive and I barely used it for the first two years.

At least the Ghost model is still worth a fair bit on eBay so you could sell that and probably make a profit. The Defiance Collectors edition was worthless from Day One!

I paid $700 for an OUYA dev kit so I could write a game in time to be a launch title.

Beat that!

SiqmyOm.jpg

Did you recoup the $700 at least by being a launch title?

My dumbest gaming releated buy was getting both the collectors editions of MGSV. PS4 and Xbox One.

That arm is cool but...

The 'making of bluray' was trash and nowhere near as good as the MGS4 making of. I imagine due to the fallout between Kojima and Konami though.

Bought one for PS3 and one for 360 with the intent of opening one and keeping the other sealed. Cost roughly $250 all together when everything was said and done.

You could buy it for $25 now, and that's still far too much.

No, the crappy way they handled launch, by the time any decent number of people had their consoles, there were like 500 games available (most of them quick Android phone ports), and their store was extremely slow and poorly organized so it was hard for any particular game to get traction. The only advantage my game had as a launch title was it was available for the 250 people who got an OUYA on launch day!

I bought Watch Dogs CE. Never buying a CE from Ubi again.

Collectors Editions should include a steelbook, artbook, and full soundtrack for $20 more.

I bought the Agatest special edition with the boobie mouse pad and pillow case

B00354NBF4.le.lg.jpg

Man, i saw that at gamestop once and when i decided i wanted it they were gone and hard to find.

For me, injustce c.e. i bought it for the statue. Beat the game and never played it again.

Arkham asylum c.e. batarang was dosappointing.

Xbox one. Bought it for quantum break. Got 25% off last christmas. They then announced a pc version.

Theres probably more that i cant think of right now.
