Dumbest gaming related buys. (stupidly expensive LE / CEs allowed)

latest

Never again.
Came to post this. Having an Xbox 360, I felt like it was my obligation to give this Halo thing a whirl. Millions of fans can't be wrong, right? $150 dollars and a single co-op play through, I never played the game again; had no desire to.

I *almost* preordered the super fancy edition of ReCore because the statute looks awesome, but Inafune's involvement and the general "meh" feeling I've gotten from gameplay videos stopped me.

Brink and Darkspore are the biggest ones that I actually bought.

The only CE I've ever owned was the Renegade Edition of DJ Hero, and I got that as a gift. I didn't end up playing that much of the game, though it was far from bad.

I used to be a huge sucker for CEs up unlike recently. I've spent 1000's in total across the years for basically random little collectibles I don't do anything with and collect dust.

Switching to digital hasn't made these huge packages available so has saved me a lot of money. Probably the one I regret most is the Defiance CE though I do use the tote bag it came with to carry my Magic cards

Kinda wanna have a thread of awesome CE now.

Yeah, I am still pleased with the special edition Fallout 3 bundle I bought (the one with the lunchbox from the bombs you make in the game). Great production value. The only problem was, I had already bought the game and installed it before I decided I wanted the special edition. I bought the SE with the intention of returning the new sealed copy that came inside with my original receipt. Only, the upcs were different. So, I carefully cut off the correct UPC from my opened copy, cut a small slit in the sealed copy's cellophane, and slid it over the wrong UPC. The store took it back without any issues, but my wife thought I was crazy...

I have two that I kinda regret buying at full price lol

Destiny TK CE just because I had the buy the full game at full price again for it, even after I bought the first CE LOL

And the Saints Row IV GOTGeneration edition lol

I mean, it's pretty cool looking back at it, but for the price it was lol

Launch PS3. I do not regret buying a PS3, but I wish I'd waited until there were some decent games and a price drop. It was bloody expensive and I barely used it for the first two years.

Same, the Xbox 360 had been out, what seemed ages, and I just couldn't wait any longer to jump into the next generation, I didn't even own a hd tv at the time and used it mainly to ps2 games. I remember it costing me just under £600 with 3 games.
I was old enough to know better.

I'll probably be making another dumb purchase by buying the ps4 pro, I already have a pc with 980ti but getting impatient waiting for the 1080ti to drop for a new PC build....man I could put £350 towards that. But I don't have a console and Horizon looks so good. Conflicted.

I do not regret the few LEs/CEs I got over the years. The one really dumb moment in my gaming purchase history was in my early teens. Living in a small German village, pre internet age, I could only check stores for new games every few weeks or even months in bigger cities (my mother was strictly against mail order for postage cost reasons and the small towns near us would only stock the absolute bestselling stuff). Anyway, I usually got myself a new Nintendo game which I've seen in the Club Nintendo magazine or other gaming mags. Once a year, there was a new Mega Man either for NES or Game Boy, so one city trip per year was reserved for "new Mega Man game". My dumb IIRC 11 or 12 year old self once thought of changing up the ritual and get something else for variety and surprise. So I glanced at Mega Man 4 for Game Boy, but put it back. Of course, I could've picked something cool... I mean, that was at a time where 2-3, maybe 4 games per year was the norm so pick wisely, right? ... Instead I picked the Game Boy version of Beethoven 2, based on that second Beethoven the Dog movie. I was never able to track down a good copy of Mega Man 4, which is still missing in my otherwise mostly full classic Mega Man collection, and Beethoven 2 still is somewhere in my collection packed away, mocking me being the worst game I ever got for full price in my whole life. Full price as a kid, which is basically the equivalent to high price LE stuff as an adult :P And boy did I learn my lesson to never buy something without research ever again.

Buying 6 months subscription on a freshly released MMO and then quit playing after a few weeks.
Happened to me several times, with SWTOR, AoC etc.

I bought the FFX HD collector's edition at launch for ps3. Ended up playing the ps4 version, and the ps3 one is still untouched. Everytime I see it, I feel regret, but it at least came with a soundtrack.

I bought some limited edition Empire Earth 2 gold set and don't think I ever really played the game because my computer was suck. As for more modern things, Bioshock infinite preorder on steam.

I bought brink too, but that was actually a decent game that didn't suffer from tone whiplash and removing the gun wheel because lol

I was wrong person to buy this:

It is handy but 99% of time I played single player games, so it was wrong device for me.
Now I play Neverwinter PS4 and it would be great :D (Dont want to use keyboard).

I bought one of those not to chat but to add weight to the controller and I felt the DS3 just felt too light.

I rarely do it, but the only one I regret is the No Man's Sky CE. Beautiful case and books though. I've never bought one of those Statue packs. They look ugly even in their PR shots and my SO would never allow them to be displayed.

Recently, I regret buying SFV (not enough content at launch and the servers were shit) and MGSV (lot's of potential fun, and I did enjoy most of my time beating it, but there's no way I'm coming back to it).

I bought the collector's edition of one of the later Mortal Kombat games before they rebooted it, I think it was Deception. I hadn't played a Mortal Kombat game in years, or any fighting game, and only played it for a few days before never touching it again.

Gran Turismo 5 Signature Edition.

Don't get me wrong. I loved the game and the extras were all good quality, but £120? For something that dropped in price RAPIDLY afterwards? Yeah.

Well, it did get you in on the competition where you could win yourself an actual SLS AMG. If I were any good at that game, I definitely would've given it a shot at the time.

Quest 64 brand new. In Canada, so $69.99 IIRC. Plus 15% sales tax so actually 80 dollars. (I was clearly too dumb to buy some JRPGs for my SNES/Genesis and instead wanted a modern one hahahaha since I didn't have PSX/SS at the time.)

SFV CE.. I swear the artbook looks bigger in promotional material (though its pretty terrible for a CE artbook anyways so). The figure was ok but mine didnt even fit on the stand correctly (only one leg connects). I did get a good deal though for 80$ total but with the game going for like 40-50$ now I might just sell it.

Halo 3 Legendary thing. I thought u could put on the helmet. $120. After that I never bought another collectors edition thing ever again.

For me, probably Halo 4 Limited Edition. The campaign was at least entertaining. I sold it for 5 bucks (CAD) a few months ago. Nobody wanted it even though it was in mint condition and had everything included (yes including the plastic bags).

Honestly? A New 3DS. I've gotten a lot of playtime out of my old and new 3DS, and it has paid for itself, but it is still a waste of money considering my old one worked fine. My Wii U could play Hyrule Warriors, the game I bought the new 3DS for, just fine, but I wanted hero switching and portability.

I bought a 20th Anniversary Pokémon new 3DS when they launched. It wasn't a bad buy, but I barely use it. Played through MK7, Pokémon Blue, and that's it. I also bought Pokémon yellow but haven't gotten far. With NX coming soonish, I can't help but feel like I should have saved that money and waited. My two year old loves it, but that's exactly the thing I don't want because he doesn't know how to play anything and I'd hate for him to break it.

I never buy CEs, but fucking SFV + season pass. SFIV + expansions was one of my most played games last gen but for SFV I hated the game, haven't even tried the story mode they added in later.

Also, that DS browser is hilarious. Wish I could try it just once.

Yeah i was so stupid to buy that for full price.

More like "Im Gonna Regret This Forever".

Also fuck Brink.

Yeahhhh buddy. The dice and cards were kinda cool tho.

And in all honesty, every big CE I've gotten has been pretty trash. Never seen a good statue. Art books that never get opened. EXCEPT Blizz. God damn can they make a GOOD fucking CE.

Not gonna lie though, the CE for Mafia III looks pretty nice. Faux-leather coasters and some vinyl. Love me some vinyl. Fuck.

...in 2015.

I don't even have DS lite, and since it required Slot-2 connected Expansion Pak, I can't run it on my 3DS. (And even if I could, what would I browse with it?)

I just wanted to have the right to say: "Yes, I own a browser on a cart." Well, as well as that peculiar but useless Expansion Pak too.

I bought this a week ago, for $3. No regrets.

lol this thread is a graveyard of LEs/CEs.

Thanks for the laugh guys.

This thread needs to be pinned as a cautionary tale to gamers to not be a sucker for some cheap swag.

Definitely The Order's collectors edition, I actually enjoyed the game but nothing in that pack was worth it.

Game wise it has to be Watch Dogs, I had no interest and in a moment of weakness and boredom I bought the game AND the season pass... I'm still unsure as to what happened that day.

The SFV CE was on Amazon for $50 a few months ago, the Ryu statue is actually really well made and looks awesome. It's like a giant Amiibo with no functionality lol
